I am British parent and also a patriot. I have a 2 and 5 year old at TEK. Prior to enrolling my children I visited many Kindergartens & found this the most professional & child friendly. To be very honest it doesn't matter to us what the nationality of the coordinator is, what does matter is that the department head of Pre-school & Reception class is British as well as the Nursery class teachers. We as parents we are very familiar with the ELG curriculum and we are happy with this, it allows our children to progress at their own pace. So to everyone out there I can highly recommend the English Kindergarten and recommend parents to personally go and visit the various Kindergartens before making an important decision regarding the future of your children.
Further more, the most important aspect for us is that our children look forward to going to The English Kindergarten everyday.
My children went to TEK and I know for a FACT that it is Western Expat Owned and Managed!!! My kids were extremely happy there and they do follow the British Curriculum. Infact one of the British Qualified teachers there is constantly bringing in up to date literature, books and equipment from the UK.
I would not hesitate to recommend the nursery to anyone who is looking for a place for their children.
More nurseries will be added to the Nursery Guide in the coming months - keep your eye on the website for announcements :)
If you would like to see your favorite nursery added to the guide please suggest that the nursery manager or owner contact us - we would be more than happy to visit them!
You might have me on that one, sharkbait! I'm at an absolute loss at picking out the South African accent, so while I remember them as being from the UK my "accent deafness" could have tricked me :) Even so, they are lovely people who care a great deal about their nursery.
The English Kindergarten is actually managed by British expats, though. I met with both the manager (twice) and her husband (once) and I promise they're from the UK. . .cross-my-heart :) Both are truly lovely people, too.
We want the Nursery Guide to represent the nurseries with their "best foot forward", but we were also very careful with the information that was printed. I don't feel that any of the nurseries were ever trying to be deceptive, but sometimes there were instances in which I felt that certain info could be more accurately presented in another way. In these cases they ("they" in a general sense - no one nursery in particular) were very receptive to my suggestions. I'm sure no one will disagree when I say that supplying "puffed up" info doesn't help anyone involved :)
@Ines_pt - I am so glad the Nursery Guide was helpful for you! When you decide on a nursery please let them know that it played into your decision (assuming it did) or that it was at least helpful.
@soniya - thanks for the warm words - I'm glad you found the Nursery Guide to be helpful.
It was a friend looking for a Reception class for September, so limited choices. She didn't want to go straight into a 'big' school as her daughter is quite shy, especially after the move here. She tried The English Kindergarten but it's not, as advertised - British/Western Expat Managed. Also they say british curriculum (ELG). In actual fact my friend is coming from the UK and knows that the Early Learning Goals are an aspect of the EYFS which is the British Curriculum, obviously if they don't know that then maybe they're not actually running the British Curriculum. They were very cagey about discussing staff qualifications also.
Having said that I don't think it's the fault of the Doha Mums as they would have been given the info by the KG themselves. I think the Doha Mums website will be great, they're off to a good start and I'm sure will just keep getting better.
Great site but some of the info is incorrect regarding nurseries. I don't know whether it's just because they were misinformed by the Nursery or have misprinted. On the whole great though.
sabina_1 - Doha Mums just launched its Nursery Guide last week. It has all the info you'll need on Doha's most popular nurseries (including Juniors) , including maps and directions to them. You can find more info here:

I'm sure my friend said they were South African or at least the person she met who said she was the manager was!
Thanks for the feedback, sharkbait :)
