they are just a live surveillance cameras to monitor the traffic, thats all... passed many of them driving more than the speed limit months ago and i never got fined...

they are planning to put the new redars which calculate the speed of a car on distance but still they didnt install any...

and i thought you were a smart intelligent guy but alas i was wrong you also believe in rumours .

those are CCTV/Surveillance cams in every part of Doha they arenot traffic radars or cams.

i doubt that first camera does this calculation. These are usually more for traffic monitoring and crime/accident detection. True they operate with no flash but they are more of a video mode and can take pics.

I highly doubt they do the calculation although ( that calculation does exist through other traffic units which have bigger processing units within them )

did anyone you know got fined like that?

eby... I also think the same. Logically (I am not an expert) you need a computer to calculate average speed. The numbers shall be in English Bold (as in Dubai, UK etc..) for the cameras to detect the numbers automatically. Qatar is planning to introduce new number plates for this purpose. I think now the cameras are only for monitoring.

I know this email is circulating around but not sure of its authenticity .. as in dubai the radars are at the road level to read the car plate number .. so I am not sure how it could read a plate fixed on street light .. I believe it just a live cameras to monitor the traffic

indigo_res, what rock have you been hiding under. this information has been around for 3-4 months now. anyone who has driven across the city has seen the new speed units and is aware of them. Look out the window... its snowing!
