Ittihad airline

my husband bought a ticket using his credit card. and the same it was confirmed. the next day i got a warning message that we have to present the original credit card on the check in counter or go the airline office and present the original credit card and ID of the card holder.or else we are not allowed to board so, to avoid delays at the airport my husband and i went to the office of ittihad airlines and the lady typed something in the computer and said okey, you have to have a colored copy of credit card and the owner ID to present it to the check in counter. i told them, coming here and showing to you all the original + the owner's face is not enough? whats the point of buying ticket with credit card that still we need to go to the office? and also still we need to have colored copies on hand? if we only knew that hazzle. we just go to the airline office and buy cash no hazzle. no presenting anything. no copies. no worries for flight delay or disappoinment.

booked on line 2 years ago using my credit card. He never had problem travelling alone and the airline people at the airport did not even bother to ask for the original credit card.

i am not writing this because it hard to comply with their rules,no! its easy..i already did the first requirement at their office, and the second, the colored copies, the worst comes to worsed.. i can grab my husband at the check in counter and show his face and his credit card. simple! I can do it.i am writing this because it is ridiculous!not warning people in advance.

If you are the owner of the credit card you used when buying your ticket, you have no problem just take that credit card with you.at least if they ask for it you are ready to present it. my case is diffirent, i am not the owner of the credit card. its my husband.i am sharing it i really wanted to share to all people. because, what is not good for me. is not good for others. nobody wants to be stopped at the airport.especially if you are travelling with Kids. we are confirmed to fly this Feb. urgent. everything are set and confirmed.people back home are expecting us.

This is a good point. I bought my Qatar Airways ticket online and im flying this march. I was thinking just to bring with me my e-ticket sent to my email. I should double check this first with QA before my travel to prevent any troubles during my flight.

Thanks babes for posting this which is applicable to all airlines.

Fubar,

i respect all rules and regulations. i abide on all laws but, just as i said, before in UAE, that my husband tried to purchased our ticket via credit card, immediately they told us that, its not possible if the passenger is not the owner of the credit card.(or vice versa) then thats it! finish problem solved. went to the office buy the ticket cash. no problem.

my dear, rules are there for you to choose (to accept or not)nobody will force you if you don't want. but, on my case, they don't inform the rules, before they accept the credit card and confirm our flights.. then turn around and say okey do this, do that. what if the passenger has no time? or the owner of the card has no time.and i don't want to have a credit card. i am a housewife my husband give me cash for everyday expenses. credit cards is good for people who can control themselves. but, mostly cannot. and end up in a big hole.(depts). it gives you the power to buy things you want on the spot.but, sometimes you get addicted to it.Credit cards has advange and disadvange. is all up to you. i got my choice "I don't like to have credit card" i have a lot of bad story to tell about credit cards. way back when i was in UAE. and i don't want it to happen to us.

they are doing it for security reasons due to several credit card frauds, but it is really a burden

Qatar Airways always asks me to present my credit card when flying. The best way to avoid this is just to buy it over the counter at the airlines office.

If you buy tickets with cash you are more likely to get stopped at Immigration or by security officals, since this is considered a suspcious behavior.

The simple rule is - if you don't like the airline's rules, don't use the airline.

LeBaNeSeMaN,

its not the point of how much the cost of a photocopies.. i think you did'nt get the point. its the time and hazzle of the people. thats why it one purpose of the credit card is the convenience that you can do things on you desk. everybody busy working. and the only time is when they go home at the end of the day. have a cup of tea and rest.and spend time with their children. do you ever do that? are you a father? that you can juggle work and family in one day? do you ever see and talk to each of your children when you come home? do you know what the happening to them the whole day? i hope not? 5 - 10% or even 100% less is nothing.. the time you spend with your family is costless. the point is stop the hazzle. only YES or NO. thats it. Yes you can via credit card NO you cannot done!

booking onine reduces the fees by 5-10 %? right ?

Its a normal procedure for most Airlines in case somebody buys a ticket online from another passenger.

Don't you have a photocopy machine at your work? How much will it cost you to make photocopies of ID and C-Card?

i am just disappointed with Ittihad airlines. i was in abudhabi for 13 years and i always fly ittihad but,i always purchased tickets cash over te counter. i remember once i have to leave and my husband wanted to buy us tickets via internet, they told him that its not allowed to purchase ticket if you are not the owner of the credit card. so,that is okey. at east the problem stop from there..simple. so, you know that you have to go to their office and purchase cash done! no worries, no hazzle here and there. But, to accept the payment then give you the hazzle its just irritating.

It does absolutely nothing to prevent credit card fraud. It is a silly requiremnet by only a few airlines who just don't get it.

Why can't you pay for a ticket by credit card and give that ticket to someone else?

If I buy a microwave at Carrefour and pay with credit card I am not allowed to give it to my friend unless they have a copy of my credit card??

Same happened to me with Qatar Airways - So now I just go directly to the office and pay in cash so I can book for anyone anywhere.

its an outdated system that some airlines still maintain, including Qatar Airways.

What we had experience is that when I purchased an online ticket with Etihad, I called their Doha office and inform me to send through email the colored picture of my original ID and credit card. Then after 30 minutes they call me to confirm that they had received. This is due that I am not the one who will travel but if the cardholder will travel with you, I dont think that you need to have a color copy as you can show them the original card when you checken in. I bought a ticket Manila-Doha and the passenger is my friend and not myself.

The catch is here as babe pointed out. They have already gone to the airlines office and verified it. Even then they demand to carry a coloured copy of the card to the airport doesnt make sense.

This is where it differs from other airlines.

Nowadays when you can check in online directly from your home, these kind of things will not help.

and why? when we went to the office and comply to what they want us to do. they don't confirm it immediately or at least give us a copy sign by them to take to the check in counter "OK to BOard"its worrying though.... its not them who is travelling . thinking that if you are tavelling urgent and have fixed appointment in other countries with my 4 yrs old son its too much to be hold at the airport. i think people can understand that.

A photocopy of the credit card used should suffice for the traveller. No need for the holder to be present.

By chmb• 8 Feb 2010 18:15

It is not a common practice for most airlines. Qatar Airways was the first time i heard of this happening. i think it's ridiculous. i know of people having to pay for another full ticket and losing the other one just because of this.

I agree with drmana...I think its a routine procedure at most of the airlines.

Its same for Qatar Airways as well. If the holder of credit card used to buy ticket is not travelling, we need to get a document from airlines office with card holders signature verified there along with photocopy of card submitted. I think its a standard procedure just to prevent credit card frauds.

This is common practice for some low budget airlines, I'm surprised by Etihad though.
