and not just the rain, I'm missing courtesy
ok weather aside and thats still a big issue for me, I am struggling massively with the lack of common old courtesy in this place. I have been here for a month now and am still in shock when out on the roads of Doha, I'm sorry to say that most drivers are bad. I've been tooted at, almost driven in to, had lights flashed at me, cut up lots of times, no one lets anyone out or stops at zebra crossings! what is wrong with everyone? The UK has lots of faults, but I can honestly say that driving here and driving at home is worlds apart, so apart from the rain I miss the courtesy of being let out at junctions and not having to take your life in your hands and just pull out! I also have a small child in my car and god help me the first person that rams me! they will have a very irrate female on their hands! ok rant over, I will continue to stop at zebra crossings, let people out and generally indicate at all junctions/drive well and hopefully a little bit of me will rub off on everyone else :)
I totaly agree with you! Here cars can be with out indicators..can save money! Nobody...including police put indecators! I am damn scared of roundabouts. People change lanes here and with out the indecators. Waiting in the roundabout are common. Right lane is always blocked with illigle parking/waiting.I heard here people were given driving licence and then asked to learn driving. Rich sheikh's driverse are the worst.I was told by a senior Qatari engineer at UPDA, he agreed and said it is better here compared to Soudi!!!I can go on!
Be Roman ...when you are in Rome...pls. Don't follow this. Stick to the driving rules. Let us stic to our western rules. We will go back one day.
the rain, snow, cold, tax's do I miss them no! OK so I refuse to drive over here but, taxi's are cheap, so is eating out. Life's an adventure enjoy
Wait for some more months and see whether your opinion changes....
the pay you get is not for the work you deliver. it covers every thing else you face every day. It is true atleast for those who are getting much more than what they get else where.
Well, I think the rain is done this year. You must have arrived right after the downpours. It will probably be Dec, Jan, Feb next year when we see rain again. It's already starting to warm up again. Then you will post about it being SO VERY HOT! 54C last year at one point.
Motherhood...The hardest job you'll ever love! : )
Thanks for that glimmer of hope, I have another 4 occasions to look forward to then! I hope it piddles down for 2 weeks at Easter when I'm back home :)
The average "Rain" in the region is 5 times a year....so atleast you can expect it 5 times in one year.
"COURTESY"....is something you can only dream for.....So my friend, better get yourself used to it. :-)
----------------------------------------------------------------Give me some SunShine......Give me some Rain
Give me another Chance...I wanna grow up once Again
Yes it is the forum for that. Actually you can rant about just about anything here, sometimes it does help to let it all out :)

Yeah obviously thats what I'm hoping will happen that I'll adapt, its still a shock for me and I'm trying hard to settle in, I'm desperately trying to not throw the towel in just yet as I don't want to be a light weight - anyway isn't this forum for this kind of thing? what do you miss about home??
dont get bothered by the honks or flashes.... after a while you will become deaf to the honks and blind to the flashes. the rash drivers are ignorant kids in their toys, stay away from them as much as possible, dont get the so called "right of way" and "queue breaking" bother you,
it doesnot kill to reach your destination a few minutes late.
lol yes that's an idea.. Drivers here are too impatient but you will get the hang of it soon..

oh I do, but what about everyone else? I think they should give us careful drivers the large vehicles and all the others the suzuki alto's the world would then be a much safer place me thinks.....
Just like the lack of rain, you will get used to this too :)
Just drive very very carefully :)
