Does anyone know the current penalty if caught driving under the influence of alcohol?

as per the new law its between 10000 Q.R. and 50000 Q.R. or 1 month to 3 years in jail, or the two together... so better not to take the risk :)

Take care about drink and drive during Christmas and new year eves' checking will be too much than normal days.

today a taxi driver showed me a piece of paper with all the different rates for each violation.

If you are caught driving under the influence of alcohol

it goes from 10,000 QR to 50,000 QR plus 1 to 3 years prison plus kick in da ASS!

I hope a fine, jail and deportation. There is no excuse for this and I would support the police doing random breathlyser checks in the evenings as they do in many parts of the world.

I heard it is 50,000 QR and if your careless driving resulted in an accident where some one is injured or died,then you pay blood money (200,000 QR)on top and finally deported with no chance of return, this is worth only the equivalent of 10000 taxi trips at a cost of 25 QR,lol

somewhere around QR5000 can be more if you were involved in a accident ...... nobody will deport you for driving under the influence of alcohol....
