The Pearl Qatar- Sharia Law
Hi,
My wife and I own a Pearl Qatar apartment jointly. We also made a will in a offshore jurisdiction which deals with all our international assets, which includes Qatar (or so we think)
I just talked to my financial adviser and he suggested to talk to a Qatari lawyer to find out what would happen with our apartment at the Pearl Qatar if (God forbids), I die. Would our offshore will prevail or would some Sharia Law come into effect.
In short, would the apartment still belong to my wife, or do I need to have a special will to ensure that it does?
Lastly, for the owners in Pearl Qatar who recently took possession of the property, do you know if any of them have received their Permanent Residence?
Thank you ahead of time for your comments
Thanks to all for your answers.
even i am interested in knowing the legal status....similar situation in UAE for Dubai property holders.
As far as I know, to over ride Shria laws, the family have to build a BVI 'Family Trust' and all family members become Trustees, even if one of the trustee expires other would continue to act as Owners. This process requires legal charges/fees and commission in building trusts, transfering the property into Trust's name, etc.
to setup an offshore company or trus and have the property title transferred to the company .. otherwise Sahria Law applies ..
