What if QL had competition?

Seems to me like there's a lot of frustrated users on QL new and old. Always grumbling about mods and their duties, topics being deleted, trolls, personal fights etc. But what if QL had competition and there was a new forum available? How many of you would leave?

If there was a new website similar to QL, what would u be discussing there? Keep in mind an online community is not just the website but the website is what the people make of it. Without the people there wouldn't be much.

So my question to everyone is that if you were running your own website what would you do to make it better than QL? What don't you like on QL that you'd have on your own website? What would u name your website? How would u run the show? :P

QL in fact is just a kiddo - 4 years. Don't be to harsh to a kid, he's learning about life step by step.

MOD's, can I get some extra points? :)

QL is helpful in so many ways...

QL should be improving/adjusting as it expand should try to be better always than yesterday...

Just read those worth reading and learn from it...

Is there any room for business minded people have been trying to find 1 but to no avail.

thanks.

I agree with Azilana, both sites complement each other.

we get the good ones and the bad ones; on the Mods issue we'll have to encourage the enforcement of guidelines and rules, thus there will be no "protection" Just rules to apply.

Arien is not a matter of restricting the users but "controlling" those already here with one (or more IDs) who are continuoslly "bothering" others. Or just fooling in the forums.

I am not a troll; you are right, if this type of rule was implemented before; in my particular case I would have gotten into Qatar blindfloded.

But in the end we need some sort of control for the people.

For example: "Account activation: in order to activate your account you have to perform 3-4 searches on general topics before posting"; I don't know this is just an idea. Can this be implemented??

But for sure; rules and guidelines improvement & enforcement seems to be a "must"

when I found this site, I enjoy reading the banters between eviloops, sexydoctor, Xena, ducky, serendipity, PM,e46M3, Tigasin321 and the posts and comments of spicemom, Aisha, aviduser, dragonfly212, han19, pwb78, charmed, the truth 321, wizmotr, JBH, Jamaican Magnum, Cornellian, Q____View, KellysHeroes, Mis-Cat, jauntie, mufy, zyga, Amigo66, skanky, desert_queen, Absolutejaguar, QT, working_mom, Fatcat, whoami and so much more...

Where are they? either they're in FB or just left coz they feel that QL has "gone to the dogs"??

For me, I just stayed coz I could keep abreast of what's going on in QL...but all I read lately are religion and/or RACIAL bashing. Most of the time, for the lack of nothing better to discuss, some posters PROVOKE others to comment about their race, religion...then they're the one's who cries foul when reprimanded by the MODS. Utterly boringly pathetic, if I may say so...

to answer your Question: Weren't there some sites who tried (with NO SUCCESS)to copy QL and enticed the QLers to join them? Even them had better features, better set-up but still people would stick with QL coz it's ORIGINAL.

I prefer www.Iloveqatar.net if I'm not logged on to QL coz that site has it's own personality and set-up. In my opinion, but I could say, both sites complement each other.

Then I'm sure QL will die soon considering the no. of people in Qatar.

So what about users who are accessing from other countries? I mean who doesn't have an RP of qatar?

And how come our MOd or admin knows whether the ID no. we provided is correct? They will have to make a deal with MOI/Hukoomi or what ever?

Does anyone really think the trolls are the issue? Trolls are a natural part of any site. I think the mods and their obvious favoritism of certain members is the issue.

and if that person comes back with a new identity (or many new identities), who will assure QL users or QL forums that this new Id is not going to behave the same way he/she did when originally banned.

Who is going to assure he/she is not going to be bashing/insulting/bullying/or posting "disrespectful subjects", or even charging on personal rages against the mods or other users?? Who??

Rules? Guidelines? Then as I said before; these so called rules/guidelines need to be improved & enforced once and for all without hesitation.

Everybody deserve a second chance, my troll mate. I suggest also a "modus operandi" for banning people. Like a driving license.

By imdave• 2 Nov 2009 10:19
imdave

Smoke,

Even if there was competition, it's no guarantee the trolls won't migrate there. QL is like family, b'cos every family has the sad, negative persons who need to put others down just to feel good.

Just b'cos there are crap drivers on the road, doesn't mean we stop driving? We just avoid the bad drivers, and get on with life. Likewise with QL.

The only way to keep any new site free of trolls, would be to open the site 'by invitation' only. But by doing that, we would throw out the good along with the bad.

You see, QL is ...living! It happens in cyberspace exactly like in the real life with the only (bad) issue : you cannot catch the bad guys and put them in prison.

One solution for sanitizing the QL: membership based on real ID with all the consequences that comes along. Off course, the real identity will be known only by MOD's which can prevent future "reborn" of the trolls.

Real life example: you go into a bar for a drink, show your ID at the entrance, name and ID number taken, go inside, have a party, no problem=go home nicely; problems=cooling in jail for some time.Fair and square.

why people have to come and keep on bashing...they regret it, they complain about it but yet they come and still make it...in the end; what is the lesson?? That everybody stills needs to prove his/her point regardless others point of view.

Lesson to anyone: regardless position, points, religion, ethnicity, or origin has to receive 1 and only 1 warning. After that removal is the action.

And if he /she comes back acting like a troll or publicly challenging why the banning/suspension, then we go for the Community guidelines as well as classifieds guidelines & rules to be enforced immediately and without hesitation.

Just like that

By galloper48• 2 Nov 2009 09:06
galloper48

and what about others who have just gone into RM and were really contributing with the site.

What about those loosing their faith (to call it a name) and then disappear, or just post something to get suspended or banned, or simply just leave. (I've seen many doing this)

As you said smoke Seems like QL has lost its "family"...

We'll see what comes next!!

Thats the conclution. Most of the admin and the owner itself (Qatari) looks like Pakistanis. They support those Idiots who bash India and others.

you can clearly see double standards in moderating. There was filthy words by pakistanis kept alive for days. If you utter a word against them they immediately act on it too.

Galloper exactly my sentiments buddy. For those of us that have been on QL for over 2 years we know what this site was before to what its turning out to be now. Some how i'm feeling those that run the sites and those that run with the people that run this site are becoming more arrogant and all the fortune and fame going to their heads.

We dont even see Qatari posting anymore or taking part in any discussion. Why? Its like QL has been left to the wind. As the administrator of your website i feel its crucial for you to be an active member of your own community. Seems like QL has lost its "family" and is more like "money" community. No doubt its been helpful to newbies and the information available on QL is vast, but that is ONLY because of the members productive contribution.

i used to discuss current issues with utmost earnest when i first joined this place.but then the replies and sarcastic comments i got back provoked me to call it quits.that was more than a year ago.people on QL never seemed to take any interest in genuine discussions unless of course it was some religion or nation-bashing thread....where they would go on beating around the bush and arguing pointlessly.when i returned to QL with a new avatar,i decided to use this place only like a cyber lounge where i kinda hang out with friends and fool around.nothing beyond that.

QL mods have to be more strict in bashing threads, religion and cast insults, trolls etc. nowadays the active discussions are about the smell of indians, asian ladies behind the westerners etc. It seems that only 20 - 25 people are active in those kind of forums but 90% of the registered QL users are in to classifieds.

Shaken, not stirred.

Brit,

With all respect, unfortunately there are very limited people here that can actually debate. Many here participate in discussions as if they were in casual chat rooms.

They either don't have the knowledge of the contents, the knowledge to express themselves or both, but they still actively participate as if there was no life out of QL’s posts.

By galloper48• 2 Nov 2009 08:10

a "deja vu"

Isn't it??

Guys I would have to agree to some of you but also let me tell you from my standpoint that more and more people are just trying to get easy answers from QL.

People with the response right under their nose (ehm, sorry under their fingers) but yet they fail to realize that it is there just waiting for the proper search and keywords to come and show up.

Then we have the so called "trolls" just looking for an opportunity to post something really bashing (either religion, beliefs, personnal matters or even love issues). If you ask me this kind of posting should we warned once (and only once) if a second time happens then zap!!! you are outta here. People tend to think that since somebody else got his/her way out of the banning/suspension/warning then they can also do that.

And in the end we have those who are "posting for the sake of points" or "posting to see who's better", thus any discussions just goes somewhere else and looses its sense.

Believe me even though I'm a new guy to this place I have enjoyed it a lot and I try my best to catch up or even be updated with the site forums, posting, news and others but sometimes I've been on read mode (RM it is called; like many other users) just to see "how far is this one going to go"

Of course there are other places like QL out there, but so far I've been sticked to QL; because when I was looking for info, help, feedback and even suggestions or recommendations QL was the only site from which I got it.

Of course I would like to make some changes (or at least I'll try if it was in my hands), Of course I'd like some improvements, Of course I'll be glad to help everybody; but in the end it has to be a supported action from every user available in QL...

You help me then I help you!!

Regards!

messymiss debating need not be abusive. Anyway I am yet to read any religious post here so can't comment how people here debate. I did see some threads abusing some nationalities though.

You have been here (in the region) so long that you forgot critical thinking, when you really want to improve things.

Your passive philosophy: "I like everything the way it is and those who criticize things the way they are, just want to show that they are better than others", isn’t rewarded in progressive organizations or progressive nations like the one you come from.

Don't be mad, I am just shaking your old you a bit because the reaction might bring us some new good ideas ;)

QL is like Doha, shallow and dull (http://www.qatarliving.com/node/781117) but we are stucked here for a while till we find a better place to go.

QL exists because there is limited life in Doha;

The shallowness and the inability of providing meaningful input in this forum is the reflection of the average inhabitant of this city.

Would it be a vibrant city, you wouldn't have QL - the only place that people hold to, to feel alive in Doha!

Now you know why you don't have an IndiaLiving.com or a HongKongLiving.com or any OtherCountryLiving.com!

QatarLiving.com will always exist until life out there will start attracting people's active participation!
