Sat Night Traffic

The traffic at Jediah flyover was backed up for 5 km in all directions, the people in charge of road work and traffic planning should be fired and made to stand and watch the mess they cause.

There is no way that Qatar can have the WC or anything else till the present ministers are replaced with people that are able to do the job. It is too bad the FIA can't get pictures of the mess of traffic in Doha, they wouldn't set foot here if they had to drive in this traffic.

It is too bad the Emir can't get out and see the mess that his appointees are causing to his country. Things have been going downhill since the Asian Games, which were organized by mostly non-Qataris. Anybody notice that they can't even finish D-ring and will be 2 years late.

.....the worst part is that...they decided to do these works after the summers vaccations....I believe, the summer vaccations break is the best time to carry out such road works.

Oh well, you don't pay income tax here, consequentially losing the right to complain about public works :-(.

can anyone please put me out of my misery by answering some questions;

1/ Why is the roundabout near Alfa Romeo/Megamart now square, saw them performing last week laying asphalt via tractor and bucket!

2/ With regard to the above "squareabout" it has got even worse; was three lanes into two, now three lanes into one and a bit, then 4 lanes then 2 and a bit.

3/ Would be ever so gratful if someone could shed light on the two traffic signes displaying "Keep Lift", is this to remind people to carry out theur daily excersize routine.

4/ In total agrement with UKENG, professional highway engineers need to be sought. If this happend in Europe, i would be doing time by now if it was my site.

Comments highly appreciated, regards Rich

Didnt I warn you guys....about oil being found under Jaidah thread...lol

I have been avoiding that B-ring road for the last week....and sticking to the C ring for a change.....which around Ramada suddenly becomes 4 lanes and everybody wants to jump lanes...

Erm .. my post was edited even before you posted :/

The fact remains that ALL alternative routes were clogged because of that closure.

Unfortunately for me, I work in Al-Saad. And from Najma every possible route to Al-Saad was clogged. I know because I had to use that route 4 times yesterday .. sigh

Whether it be the C ring road , or the route from Hamad Hospital Signals, Jaidah Flyover all were backed up.

By GodFather.• 11 Oct 2009 08:05
GodFather.

The Jaidah Flyover was cloased yesterday and like so many others I also had the pleasure of sitting in the traffic. Luckily for me I know a few rat runs and saved my self for loosing too mauch time sitting in the traffic.

Bad Awareness. There was no advance (or never is) awareness to the motorist. As I have been involved in many Road works Traffic Management and diversions back in the UK. They should have dirverted traffic at Ramada signal from the south north direction. divert the traffic Mushrieb Street in the opposite and diverted traffic to and via Manai R/A with no traffic coming towards Jaidah. There are plenty of roads in Doha which could have been used for bypassing these works. Just pure bad traffic management. Thats what happens when they do not have proper and qualified people doing the works. Traffic management is an art which can not be done by people who love to call them self Engineers especially in this part of the world the so called I am Muhandis gang. (certain people..:))

Anyway this morning the traffic was running normally this was 6am. Should be OK when the road works are finished.

One thing I can't digest why start all the improvements of road junction at the same time. Has any one other than me also noticed?

Notnapster ... WTF?

I think you misinterpreted my comment.

I'm trying to say that not everyone reads the paper - that's all. If the only place they put the warning is the paper, how many truck drivers, taxi drivers, delivery boys, garbage men etc do you thing read the paper?

Not frickin many.

I don't read the paper either.

Posting signs on the road "Closed from next weekend" might have given people sufficient warning to:

a) avoid the place

b) take alternative routes

c) allow extra time

Apology awaited ....

Would "Reading the newspaper" have solved this traffic chaos ??

yeah it was said to be closed for 2 days but i think it's been closed for more than two days... traffic was awful yesterday, and what made it worse was the police car blocking one lane where the signal is.. what's the point of them parking their cars where it blocks a lane and standing there when there is a signal that is working anyway.. and another police in the middle of the flyover? :/

Yea the traffic was crazy everywhere around Jaidah Flyover. The street from Musherib leading to Rayyan Road and Mannai roundabout was clogged too. The traffic cops were manning those lights and did a good job.

O.o the domino effect. Roads leading to Al Saad/Ramada from all possible directions were clogged.

I second what "stealth" says, I saw the newspaper warning and saw the signs as well, and stayed far away this weekend...

I did see a notice warning people the roundabout would be closed for some work, but your right the road works here is really awful, most companies quit their work in the middle and it seems to take years to replace them in the mean time the drivers suffer.
