Why does Alfa Romeo not sell in Qatar ?
Ever wondered why Alfa Romeo or Fiat sales are low in Qatar ?
Well it could be partly to do with the sales service..
I decided to pop into the Alfa Romeo showroom oposite the Ramada (Just happened to be in the area).
Walked in - Salesman on Computer ; Receptionist on phone ; Other person standing in opposite doorway.
Looked at the Fiat Abarth , had a wonder around a couple of Alfa. Looked at windscreensth, perused stickers, checked door handles.
Salesman still on Computer ; Receptionist still on phone ; Other person still standing in opposite doorway.
Walked out
Salesman still on Computer ; Receptionist still on phone ; Other person still standing in opposite doorway.:(
you are just a window shopper (appearance does matter) and not a serious buyer...like I pop into Jaguar and Lamborg......showrooms sometimes ;-)
Other guess.....It was Pajju highly QL addict....looking for rehab.
Promotes Cars at Free Public site called QL.....earlier Korean KIA and now Italian ALFA, FIAT :-)
Go to any showroom you will find the same scene
in the Mitsubishi showroom along Salwa is quite nice. she accomodated us well. :) shes a Lebanese i think, forgot the name though... i think its Nancy. :)

I disagree. I always shop for a car in scruffs. In UK one snobby salesman shunned me. His colleague came and chatted to me and I walked out with a brand new Audi Quattro.
I had trouble here at the Nissan showroom on Salwa road. One greasy haired, pointy shoed Lebanese salesman lost a sale of a new Patrol as I wandered off to look at a Landcruiser.
can I have the looser's blood?
bleaseee..
can you both arrange BEFORE down?
So where we gonna have the showdown at the Cartwheel restaurant carpark?

I take great offence at you disparaging my beloved KIA..
Shall we say pistols at Dawn ?
Black wolf..
some suggestions:
1- Elegant, spacious, bright showroom
2- valuable after-sale service (for example for a BMW you have free car service for three years)
3- and most importantly, they need to motivate their sales and marketing ppl to excel and bring about creative ideas. They'll be surprised what they've been missing with the lack of motivation.
This is true. And some personalities of a certian nationality seem more bubbly. No point having brooding self absorbed people as salespersons. Again, there are always exceptions, and perhaps all three people Brit encountered were Filipino.
--------Do I look like Bambi's sister???-------
it doesn't depend on the nationality at all
it depends on the personality itself.
for fear or it disintergrating before you got it out of the showroom!
I shall remove my kid gloves and bite the bullet: Sales and marketing is one of the many areas where Filipino's excel over and above most nationalities here in Qatar. I've bought things I certainly didnt need you know like tanning lotion just because a Filipino salesperson was just so persuasive. They're brilliant! So what if they take a wee bit of time in front of the mirror at the Body Shop, atleast I know when they've stopped their mascara application (and singing) they'll be ever so gracious towards me. Admit it, we all like to feel spoilt, and they do just that!
Having said that, no nationality bashing allowed on this thread!!
--------Do I look like Bambi's sister???-------
No wonder it is taking for ever for Irrysa to get her car back from the garage..
I also happened to visit their showroom lately they ended up flogging me one of the empty villas in their compound nearby..:)

QatariLady .... ya that's right,
the way of parking the cars in Showroom & Showroom's design are two important points in Cars Marketing Techniques.
britexpat .... I agree with you,
I haven't seen any advertisement for Alfa Romio & Fiat in any where in Qatar even in the TV.
what is the solution in ur opinion for them to increase their sales in Qatar ??
......alfa romea is a lovely car.......i simply love Brera......but the problem is with the maintenance and resale value........and not to forget the high price tags ;o)........

Same happened to me in Audi .. don't feel alone brit ..
It is almost the same in all of Qatar when it comes to customer service standards ..
yes youre not alone.

If you want to capture a bigger market , then you need to try harder..
black wolf.. Did you see the dealer's showroom? It looks more like a parking lot :-/
before thinking about those ppl Salesman on Computer ; Receptionist on phone ; Other person standing in opposite doorway.
you have to think about the manufacturer himself
where is Alfa Romio & Fiat standing in Qatari & GCC Market
I think if you walked in the Toyota or Nissan Showroom or any other well reputation brand u will find same ppl
Salesman on Computer ; Receptionist on phone ; Other person standing in opposite doorway.
in my opinion the major problem with Alfa Romio & Fiat is marketing issue
Brit, do you get free wi-fi in your Kia? Drive around my area sometime! =D
Alfa Romeo GTV 3,0 Spider - 24V
Manual gearbox
my first SHORT love in Qatar!
RIP on Alfa Romeo's Grave(Garage)-Yard!
Reason: no spare parts and qualified staff available
She was beautiful
She was tempermental
She would be awkward
She would be outrageous
But I miss her ::(
QatarKiwi, you are right about the reliability, but for a person that has driven Alfa- it doesn't matter. Jeremy Clarkson is right. At the moment I got 4 cars here in Qatar, but it is clear that I need an Alfa- but with the useless dealer we got here it might have to wait.
Busted... I assumed they wouldn't understand Korean :(
Dear britex,
Next time try do not wear your favorite T-Shirt with"
"I LOVE KIA!"
P.S.:
Salesman still on QL!
Ummm, Alfas a beautiful. I am married to an Italian and slightly bias. I had a fantastic 166 which was a great car.
The slight problem with Alfas is that, erm, they are Alfa Romeos. They are notoriously appalling at breaking down, and mine spent more time at the garage than on the road.
The air con is made for for the mountains and lakes of north italy, not for 50 degree summers and we were sweltering at any length of time the a/c was on. All in all I actually liked the car, if it would stop bloody breaking down all the time.
As for the service, its the same everywhere in Qatar. We now have a Pathfinder which we have no problem with and is a great machine, however the service at Nissan ws much the same, Its like you are doing them a favour by buying a car.
Will probably for a 159 jtd when we go back to Italy though, they are just so goddam sexy. Jeremy Clarkson is right, you are not a motoring lover until you face the trials of owning and maintaining an Alfa. You have to work for their love.
britexpat, I had one of the Old Alfetta GTV's, a 75, and a 33 in my old life ages ago.
It is a beautiful car .. Just like the old Alfas. I used to have a 2000 GTV Veloce years ago...
Good times..
Britexpat I had the same experience there myself, I was determined to buy a Alfa Romeo Brera, but no one was interested in me. So I ended up with a another brand instead. I still want a Brera though, but that will probably be after I leave Qatar.
True beso
Brit - high chances , he being glued to his PC ..lol

It would be interesting to hrear the views from the dealer, ...... You never know, he might be on QL..
yes, ur right. but for the poor customer,..he has to wait for ever,... therefore; we have to go in between, less famous cars ,.. Honda, GMC,...etc.
Beso - bottom line is correct, they are the same.
BUT
for one the goal is met ( self selling).. the other one s waiting for its funeral.

You know what's funny about this, best sellers and bad sellers are the same,.. try to go to Toyota,... you'll find salesman on computer (with difference he's really working),..etc
not mentioning the maintenance,.. you have to fight for a chance ...!!
I Shall complain tonight..
In any case you should've been treated as a VIP there, Brit. They own Ramada as well you know :D
"I decided to pop into the Alfa Romeo showroom oposite the Ramada (Just happened to be in the area)."......yeah right!
"Ali Baba and 40 thieves" are now "Ali Baba and 30 thieves" ; 10 were laid off.
I Agreed with ARIEN..
sponsor and mudheer must be still on vacation Brit..
why blame the dealer, if the product is not taken care, the company should fire them and give it to a good dealer.

Thank goodness. I thought it was to do with my appearance :O)
Italian & American cars, when Japanese cars at our disposal with great features!
Exhorbitant prices, no resale value, high maintenance, etc, etc, etc.....
With all due respect..This particular company (or group of companies) is poor in terms of marketing. I've noticed this in many of their businesses.. No wonder they lost BMW to Al-Fardan :-/
THE salesman & receptionist don't know the old proverb
:" CUSTOMER IS A KING "
Salesman on computer with facebook. If saleman Filipino, he might busy with Friendster.com
Receiptionist on the phone with her boyfriend.
The other person thinking about to change his job as he feel bore to stand always near the door.
So, no time to think about person coming in and going out.
probably right Brit.. They knew you were only looking :)
....lolzzzzzz ... they probably were inspired by Qatar (J/K just in a good humour)
