Anyone who believes this religious nonsense about the Last Day or the coming of Christ etc is a total fool. Religion is just nonsense and does enormous damage to people and society. I find all religions are offensive

True but that's still Natural Selection which we both agree upon. As you say the gene pool of the moths that have larger wing span will increase and therefore larger wing span gene will become dominant. However the species is still a moth not a transitional species. Natural selection is not a theory...it is fact. We see it around us with the above being an example.

Evolution of one species in to another completely new species is what the Theory of Evolution is all about. It uses NS as a basis and stretches it to propose evolution of one species in to another. As opposed to NS, ToE still remains a theory as transitional species have never been found. There have been false alarms (most famous was Piltdown man!) and the most recent one was the discovery of human fossils on an indonesian island. The former was a fabrication and the latter was accepted to be a modern human with a brain deformity.

It's an interesting topic and I am still learning myself. With the advances in genetics and unlocking of the DNA, more evidence should come forth on this issue.

Well that is exactly the point! The mutation of one gene, in this case giving a black colour is advantegeous and hence the moth make a small move down the road of evolution. Say that the mutation made the moth be able to fly faster to escape predators but say a larger wing span whereas the moths without that mutation got eaten that would be another example of evolution. This then gets in breed in the population as they are the only ones that survived thanks to their competitive advantage.

I think you are making the common mistake of confusing natural selection with theory of evolution.

Peppered moth example demonstrates natural selection where a species mutates to suit its environment. The light and dark types of peppered moths existed prior to teh industrial revolution in the uk with dark colour ones in much smaller numbers to light ones. As a result of pollution, it is proposed teh dark coloured moths were able to survive longer than lighter ones which were easier targets of predators. Hence the dark coloured ones increased in numbers with reduced competition for resources from their lighter coloured friends. At the end of the day, moths were still moths and did not transform in to another species.

This mechanism is happening around us all teh time and no one in their right mind can deny that. Farmers have been using artificial selection for thousands of years to ensure the desired 'results'.

Theory of evolution uses the above proven phenomena (natural selection) to propose that by the same logic over a longer period a one species could evolve in to another e.g. a land animal chasing an insect over a period of millions of years will grow wings and catch that pesky insect. This is still a theory and not proven from any fossil finds. Only thing you and I (and 10 yr olds) see as far as I know are hand drawn sketches of supposed 'transitional' species in between an original species and modern day equivalent.

[quote Brit] "Moral values are in decline"

That's why personally I believe Jesus is coming very soon. Prophets were always sent when moral values were in decline.

I'm not looking for the man to be convicted and you feel free to beleive in him.

I for one are not going to write essays on evolution on this site or anything else for that matter. What he has written in Atlas of Creation is pure rubbish, his indentification species would be an embrassment to a 10 year old and he obviously have to knowledge of genetics.

However I will leave you with one piece of evidence of evolution which has been studied. (Species never change eh?)

Eco-savvy, I am not sure what the purpose of the link is. Most of my school teachers believed Jesus was the son of God, yet it does not make everything they taught me about maths, chemsitry, physics, etc as unreliable. 2+2 equals 4 whether taught by a muslim, chrisitian or a hindu.

The Prophet (saw) offered some POW's who were idol worshippers the opportunity to regain their freedom by teaching the sahaba to read.

I have to admit I dont know a great deal about HY personally but I have breifly seen some of his videos. Please tell me which of his works related to science, creationism, etc you disagree with...that is after all what the thread is about.

exiledsaint...so far I have only heard character assasination..."dodgy", "shady", "fraud". No court of law in the world would convict a person based on people's saying unless they can bring proof. I have seen no evidence from Adey or yourself.

You appear to have studied this man and also indicate that you have a better understanding of theory of evolution. Please give evidence so that we may all benefit from your insight.

ntq the man is a fraud. his atlas of creation is another book you have to take on faith. His claims are absurb and he refutes evolution even though clearly he does not understand it.

He has found a market for muslim creationism and has taken the idea from christain creationists. Even better he discovered that he can make a lot of money out of this and is now getting richer by the day made possible by the gullible....

Adey, my understanding is that HY is Turkish and lives in Turkey. As you are aware Turkey is a very restrictive country and the secular elite is well known for many human rights violations against anyone remotely going againts the teachings of the 'father of the turks'. I would think the secular generals must have some idea where he gets his money from.

Self publicist? not sure what you mean, please give some examples.

Two names? don't many renowned writers have pen names? According to wiki many writers use pen names for the following reasons;

"A pen name may be used to make the author's name more distinctive, to disguise his or her gender, to distance an author from some or all of his or her works, to protect the author from retribution for his or her writings, or for any of a number of reasons related to the marketing or aesthetic presentation of the work."

Some examples are the CS Lewis, Mark Twain and more recentlty JK Rowling. Even a collective bunch of French mathematicians wrote a book under one name (Nicolas Bourbaki). Are these all shady characters too?

Lets keep the discussion at a mature level. The man uses science to justify the existence of God. What aspects of his opinions and the scientific evidence he uses do you disagree with?

certainly

HY is a self publicist in the extreme, no one knows where he gets his money from and he goes by two names,

A shaddy charecter.

Not that it is relevant to the post, just to clarify adey's simplistic statement above, see the link to Reuters website relating to HY's arrest;

http://www.reuters.com/article/artsNews/idUSL0992091620080509

The turkish establishment are secularist 'fundementalists' and have been trying to silence HY for a very long time. This is just another attempt.

Maybe Adey can expand on what he means by 'dodgey character'.

Religion used for private means
