I was just wondering can expatriates retire in Qatar? I know there are rules with the Visa. So I'm just wondering. And if so, then how?

Yeah buy a home on the Pearl, that could be the smartest thing you could do, but think about it, if you could afford a place on the pearl and afford all the annual connection fees and charges you could probably choose anywhere in the world to retire...

all of that PLUS the unfit for humankind or any kind weather for better part of the year, idiotic clueless people on the road,no nightlife/social activities of any significance & that's for the younger working people, retirees, forget about it,just have to curl up & pray & wait to buy the farm!...

Well my thinking is this. You have no legal protection, no chance of ever becoming a citizen and its frighteningly expensive for a retiree. Plus in a few years maybe the economy is not so good, so what are you going to do?

@ exiledsaint,LOL!!...very good point, why would ANYONE want to retire here???...but seeing as,to each his/her own & all that jazz...2 options mate, get a local to sponsor you & pray that he doesn't kick the bucket before you,he'll either have to be a) a very good friend or b) someone you will have to pay yearly for the privilege, also once you're over 60,your profession will have to state 'consultant' on your residence permit if you want to stay on...another option if you have a couple of million riyals lying around, you know, spare change likes, buy an apartment @ the pearl & get a 99 year residency visa...

I'm just wondering why would you want to do that?
