Ladies Field Hockey
Doha Hockey club has announced plans to further develop hockey in Qatar. Last year saw the formation of Qatar’s first women’s hockey team. It consisted of ladies from 9 different countries (England, Scotland, Netherlands, Spain, Argentina, South Africa, Kenya, Australia and Sweden) with varying degrees of experience, from ex European National League players to beginners. The ladies took on the Qatar Hockey Academy junior boys in a friendly series which saw both teams improve greatly over the course of the 4 competitive matches.
This season DHC are looking to develop this further with the introduction of ladies only training sessions at Qatar International School in West Bay. Senior members of DHC (male and female) will be leading the training sessions. Matches will be arranged through out the season. Training will be every Monday from 6:30-8pm starting 12th October. All ladies are welcome whether you’ve been competing recently, haven’t picked up a stick since your schooldays or are just looking for a fun way to stay fit and meet new people.
This training will follow on from the Junior development session held from 4-6pm every Monday at the same venue.
For those feeling more confident are welcome to join the men at the full training sessions on Wednesday evenings at Al Rayyan Sports Club where we will be preparing for the 2010 league. We will be entering 2 teams in the league offering top level competitive hockey. For ladies and gentlemen who are not ready to commit to the league we will be arranging social games on Saturday evenings to ensure everyone can join in.
DHC is committed to developing all levels of hockey in Qatar as well as having fun. We regularly arrange social events to help build a more cohesive club, plans for this season include a dhow trip, camping in the desert, Beach picnics and overseas tours. If you are interested in playing with us please drop us a line on [email protected].
