Collecting rocks

Hi All
Back after a loooo-o-ong summer! And back in the garden again.....does anyone know if it is illegal to collect a few rocks for my garden? It seems that one thing Qatar has in vast quantities is rocks. I went out and about on unnused ground near my house and noticed that in some places land had been 'marked out' by lines of stones or small - knee high - pillars of laid bricks. It struck me that the land might well belong to someone. However, all I want is some smallish fieldstone random rocks.
