The Karate Kid (1984)
Stars: Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue, etc.
Directed by John G. Avildsen
A boy who just transfered hometowns try to take a new life in LA as he meets new faces at his new school, a new girl, and some bunch of bullies who keeps on kicking his way. He mets the resident utility man, an old man of Japanese descent, and gives him the courage to overcome his shortcomings and humility through learning the proper Karate lessons.
Just had to revisit what probably is one of the best inspiring movies of the 80's. The famous Ralph Macchio, who gives us the enduring presence as the kid who's full of energy, Pat Morita (who was nominated for the Oscars Best Supporting Actor for his character in this movie), the ordinary guy who taught us the 'wax in, wax out' karate defense, the mean bullies that 'portrays' the negative aspects of reality, and the whole concept of the story, one underdog's fighting spirit (as how the director got famous for such types of movies). Quite memorable for the soundtrack "Moment of Truth" sung by Survivor adds a pack to the spirit of the movie.
I was in love with him, but now no more :P
and that says a lot lol...
Yeah haha, I think I spent more time in school reading Double Digests from my Pinoy friends than I did reading the schoolbooks, they were fairly sappy and corny for me as a teen intent mainly on mischief and interested exclusively in heavy metal but in the lack of alternatives, reading about the eternal love triangle of Archie Andrews, Veronica & Betty was much preferred to learning the Pythagoras' theorem :)
Ahh them golden days may not return. Last I heard Archie finally married "rich b***h" and broke "girl next door's" heart. It's funny how they love to ruin things we were passionate about as kids yet bore us sick with happy ends in "serious movies". What to do?
crap...that made me laugh but yeah i think most will agree ;) i got collection of Archie comic books when i was in high school lol...i used to swap it with my friends over the weekend. now this made me miss my high school life...
:(
I must admit... but Universal Soldier was the cinematographic equivalent of a frontal lobotomy, and I liked Dolph Lundgren. Oh of course, there was that terrible spinoff of one of the best loved video games of all time that I shall refrain from naming...
and don't take this the wrong way, almost three quarters will have a special place in their heart for at least half of the following:
Archie comics
Peter Cetera
Air Supply
Jackie Chan
Of course this doesn't apply for the punks and metalheads who hate that stuff :D Probably not Jackie Chan though, love for him is in my observation, universal hehe
i still enjoy watching old jackie chan movies with english subtitles lol... oh and jet li too...much prefer them than van damme ;)
Bloodsport! Double Impact!
Van Damme was terrrrrible hehehe, but yeah we gobbled that junk up with a smile as kids...
This movie inspired me to learn martial arts. Thanks to this movie and Jean Claude van Damme's Blood sport I obtain blackbelt.
was quite a fitting end for the great Orson Welles. His final role introduced me to the man, funny perhaps, but that's how it goes :D
I cant relate on this movie, i was only 3 yrs old at that time..hihihihi!
MO RIN...YUN LANG!!!
I bowled for days. It was so bad I didn't actually see the flick all the way through for years. That was a bitter lesson about the realities of life. I still have a soft spot for Peterbilt Class 8's. There's some kind of symbolic melancholy I attach to, of all things, a tractor trailer. I think it was a little rough but it shaped our generation. Kids today don't get that kind of rough shake ;)
i think that was 1986 when they made another part for this movie and one of the soundtrack for The Karate Kid Part 2 was Glory of Love By Peter Cetera,i was 4 yrs.old XD...hmmm...brings back a lot of my childhood memories!!! XD
i remember having a huge crush on Ralph Macchio after watching this film (several times!) during my grade school days lol
We do have the same 'death of Optimus Prime middleway the movie' traumas, do we? ;-)
I was also in awesome might when the planet Unicron transformed into a robot and smashes his arm on Cybertron! God it was big at that youngster time!
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
Then when I finally saw it I was more than a little underwhelmed. "Lite" viewing trash really, and a Survivor song is hardly a good thing. Rocky was a killer flick. The sequels were not. A pumping rubbish AOR tune and endless series of montages, 80's mainstream cinematography was the pits, except for comedy that is.
"Crossroads" was a decent movie with the already stereotyped Ralph Macchio...much better than any of the Karate Kids.
In retrospect, I can safely say The Transformers full length was a much bigger picture of my childhood. I can still watch it today (hell, killing off Optimus Prime in the opening third of the movie was a traumatizer!), the voice talent alone was better than anything about the KK series....
hey thanks for this, this is one of my favourite movie when i was a kid...
