Must do's in New York

Hi guys,

So I'm off to New York at the end of the week and I was wondering if anyone can give me some must-do's. More specifically some must eat or drink at's. And don't say the Statue of Liberty of Ground Zero, I know that stuff.

Be sure to get a hot dog from a street vendor. I absolutely hate hot dogs, but for some reason the ones from a New York City street vendor taste amazing.

try Ess-A-Bagel on 21st and 1st. I really like their bagels...and you can get low carb versions too (but why would you want to?!)

Meatpacking district

Lots of hip restaurants, cafes & Art galleries . There is also that huge vintage designer (2nd hand) store ( I can’t remember the name).

called Il Mulino on West 3rd Street, not to far from the Village. I have eaten there every time I've been in NY since the mid-80s and recently ate at their restaurant in the Ritz Carlton in Puerto Rico, 3 nights in a row. Their menu is extensive and very creative using what's fresh. They are a bit pricey, but well worth it and will split entrees for you. Give it a try: http://www.ilmulino.com/

Also, don't forget that in addition to the MOMA and Met, there is the Guggenheim and Whitney (both museums with great Modern art). But one little gem of a museum that few seem to know about is the Frick Collection. It is on the Upper East side on 70th Avenue in the home of a man who made his fortune in the steel industry. They have an amazing collection of Italian Masters from the Renaissance, 3 Vermeers & 4 Rembrandts, and an impressive collection of European painting including some Impressionists works and a huge collection of Rococo paintings. Their website is here: http://www.frick.org/

Excellent advise Diamond. We're staying near Broadway & Time's Square so will definitely hit the deli. Any suggestions for a really good bagal place. My boyfriends never had one and I want to introduce them to him. :)

As a deli, Zabars on Broadway can't be beaten. Fantastic taste experiences, lots of kosher food.

JoeDoe on East 1st St is quite new but great value. Seasonal American food is the theme. They do a great brunch.

Blossom on 9th Avenue is vegan heaven. Love going in there knowing I can eat ANYTHING off the menu. Attracts a lot of non-vegan clientele too as the food is so good.

The Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel has had a bit if a revival and is worth a try.

John's pizza on Bleeker Street is my children's favourite.

If you want more high end recommendations, say the word!

I'd go to Brooklyn and try and catch some of their awesome sh*tgaze/noise pop bands play before they implode or get too big for their own good :D

Anyways have a safe trip and tell us how it went when you get back.

P.S. I envy you to no end :P

And why people wanna go to ground zero all the time is beyond me. Atrocity tourism is disgusting.
