Ever heard a Qatari say sorry?
By every_mothers_n... •
The most amazing thig happened a few minutes back " I heard a Qatari say sorry" to a asian guy.
I went downstairs to the corner shop to buy a pack of cigarette's. I was about to leave when a middle aged Qatari man entered the shop talking over his phone and ran into a asian guy ....no no not with a land cruiser he was walking this time. Yeah he ran into this guy who was standing next to the counter probably from India, Srilanka, Bangladesh etc..
Then he gently taps him on his back and says SORRY.
Probably the guy on the receving end failed to notice the importance of it.........But i did.
OK
usually mid night show is for my argument, but this time i'll keep shut my mouth.
Question to u all why do u think that Qataris' r not polite enough to say sorry!!
U guys r judging according to a small amount that u met … but actually here we Qataris' we like to apologize when we r wrong,,, we r supporting and caring ..
If u see us as a bad ppl then why u r still living here im sure deep on your hear u all know how decent we are
If Majority count then Qatari are friendly, polite, helpful and humble. Good and bad people are in every society.
Obviously when they are wrong they say sorry
Not all of em are rude :-)
I find majority of qataris humble and kind-hearted.
I actually found that statement quite offensive. There are a lot of qataries that say sorry, and are kind and respectful to people. I think what causes a problem is the confusion most people have with qatari culture. What might seem acceptable to them isn't to you. Sure there may be some rude people out there, but we shouldn't sterotype.
why is it such a big deal whether or not he said sorry anyway?
In the west you hear 'sorry' every two seconds... half of the time people don't really mean it, they just say it because... this is just something you have to say...
it is our country and we are free to say it or not=)
Qataris apologize all the time for their mistakes. The educated ones in particular are exceedingly polite. As in most cultures, it is the lower ranking, generally uneducated people that lord their tiniest bit of power over other people. Customs and immigration people at any airport worldwide are the worst (with some exceptions). Unfortunately, there are an abundance of poorly educated, provincial people here with a great deal of money, and they believe this makes them "superior" to people from poorer countries. They are like the people in the West who win the lottery and suddenly think that money alone has made them smarter, more important, and discerning. And, like the lottery winners, all the money disappears sooner or later. Only the ones investing their time and energy in education (i.e. learning how to maintain wealth and increase wealth on their own) have a long term future.
"Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see."
One Qatari banged my car from behind at a traffic signal. Immediately the guy came down and told me I will meet you at Madinat Khalifa traffice police at 5pm today and gave his mobile number.
I went to the traffic police at 4:45pm, at 5pm the guy gave me a call and said I will be late by 15mins. At 5:15pm the guy called me and said I will be there in 5 mins. And he came and finished with his regulations with traffice police and he did tell me "I am sorry about it"
This is the day I changed my view about Qataris too. He was really a gentleman.
i never met a qatari guy as yet
hahahahahahaha
Unless the guy from Palestine ,, he will say sorry.. Mostly Qataries are good behaviour... some ppls misunderstood the Qatries.. thatr the wrong concept , and the outsiders (arabs) they may act wild..
from my exp no Qatari behave rude. they might be looks like same in white dress but you better enquire where is he from , then you will knoe he is oursider, not a Qatari
Yes..Many times..!!
I have been in this country just for about 6 years i have also worked in diffrent parts of the world and mixed with diffrent nationalities. I have seen good and bad every where and please do not state this is only with Qatar. I have some qatari friends who are so down to earth and respect every other human as a human and i know some other so called advanced nationals who lack basic manners or respect to other human. All these are to do with individuals and not with a nation and i feel this guy who talks about this must be a very narrow minded and a guy who has not see the world enough & his comment must be not bothered.

Can We Fix It?
Yes We Can!
I have heard most of Qataries saying sorry if they did some thing wrong...
I think Qataries are really good people except for a few..
sorry i dont trust the author
....!!!
yes i heard a few times.....
i really respect them....
EMN...this thread is not informative at all instead misleading..I see most of them very humble & polite. Its almost the same ratio as a rich indian/paki would act to a poor labourer to what a Rich Qatari would act (inspite of own country)... so please don't generalize.

nobody can just judge people just becoz one person does not treat u well ... so all are not bad people... every community has bad and good people ... have personally met very polite & good qataris ... itz the way u treat them !
i think just some of the young qataris are corrupted not the middle aged ones infact they r very kind and sweet people i love them n i love qatar
BarBi3
But me as Qatari thanks God always that I am living here and thanks Qatar gouvernment for everything they are doing for us.
Great Qatar
Long Live Qatar.
the most important for them is their reputation.. i wish someday they can live free.. and they can fight for their rights ..
Qataris are emotinal people........I request people to withdraw their hurting comments........Little leg pulling is all right, but let's not offend them.
Are you nuts?......no doubt I am crazy about you!
I applaud this gentleman
still observing...what a thread!!!
"there are no mistakes...just lessons learned"
As a Qatari, live in a very peaceful country, I would like to raise the following points:
•Qataris are Muslims, and there is no deferent between any person (THAT ITS WHY WE DON’T USE THE PHRAS OF COLOR PEOPLE OR BLACK PEOPLE OR WHIATE PEOPLE) which usually used in USA or UK.
•We don’t and we didn’t have signs outside restaurants advising which color are allowed to inter the restaurant (in USA 1965 they were many signs including BLACK PEOPLE & DOGS are not allowed)
•We are Asian, and we have been dealing with Asian people for ages, we knew Indian very well, and we do respect them, more than any other nationality, because they are simple, and they have good history, ( not like USA or UK history which is full of innocent’s people blood-Iraq/Afghan/Palstain)
•They are a lot of Crazy Land cruiser drivers, who want to looks like Qataris by driving Land cruisers, most of them are Plastinians, they drive fast, their cars speakers are loudly,…etc, and people though that they are Qataris.
If you may allow me to comment, 1st of all I am from Qatar ,and for those who think that Qatari are impolite, not gentle, and never give an apology:
You can’t just jump into conclusion based on a stereotype or some irrelativeness cases happened in a grocery shop or a bakery.
I am sure 100% none of those got the chance to make a friendship with real Qatari, not a colleague.
I don’t mean to be so offensive but even in India or Pakistan or Sirlanaka or the Philippines or china or Russia and I have been to most of those countries , Trust me, and for your information I met the good and bad people but I never judge on the whole nation from a single negative attitude committed by an ordinary people.
So Qataries are just like other nations you will always find the bad and good, my advice to you try to have a real Qatari as friend and then I would love to hear your comments on that.
well, kinda same thing happened to me and I received a sorry as well.
I am even not sure if it is a big deal here.
Although, with a SAUDI, it definitely is a BIG DEAL.
Qataris are very gentle ppl. IF the mistake, they do appologize, its not a big deal.
Again, if you don't like it here, GO BACK!!!
The Good, the Bad and the UGLY
Qatari's Say sorry all the time: Just try to ask them any question and they will say..

I met this old Qatari man in an elevator... he walked in to the elevator and said thank you to me... then he said good morning to all the people who walked in to the elevator (two others)... after we got out on the ground floor, he individually said 'have a good day' to each of us who were in the elevator...
I glanced at him as he was crossing the road... a pickup driver did not stop for him and cut him short... the old Qatari waved his hand at the pickup driver and said Hi to him too!! I wasn't surprised, he seemed a genuinely nice person
So really... we can't generalize...
Actually saying sorry is said mainly by those kind people. But wicked people will never say sorry.
Why would that be the 'most dumbest' post?
I think you may have just proved my point.
Most dumbest post in this thread.
I agree completely.
I think the issue is not with Qataris but with people in general. I have witnessed some incredibly heartwarming instances of Qatari manners whilst I have been here- even to the point that I was shocked at their kindness.
I think that in many cases the values of the Qatari people leave much to be desired in the rest of us and I wonder how hospitable we would be to people coming to our own countries and slating them.
I can't say that I haven't cursed the driving at times- but I do that at home too- (as I've probably given good cause for critisism myself more than a couple of times!)
All Qataries are not rude, but some are real animals.
Are you nuts?......no doubt I am crazy about you!
Most every human have some or other "problem" with other nationalities....
Are you mentioning this incident to show that on previous encounters many Qatari’s were rude!
Well let me enlighten you, many people from other nationalities I came across were rude too! And not just in there own countries but here as well…
Thank you Malpaso...
true enough, qatari guys will offer a lift especially to the ladies and ask your mobile number................
qataris are nice friend but to others who they dont know especially asian people, well then saying sorry is a big thing to them.....but when it comes to westerner qataris have a huge respect to give....
take an example, during Fridays in souq and corniche, bachelors are not allowed to go to this place they will even push this poor asian workers but they are allowing single westerners to roam around.......
Well, lets accept it this is their country and we are just only an expat receiving salary for helping this place to be more progressive....
In fairness to other qataris their are some who really are nice and appreciative to other people.
That is the way it SHOULD be. He should say sorry and you should quit your cigarette.
king, it has been like this since the 16-Oct-2005...
man
this forum is full of hate
cant believe it
They afraid Pakistanis
How do you identify he is a Qatari, by dress? not always, you can see so many other nationalites wearing their traditional dress to get respect?!!
yes!!! they do.
...listen to the sound of silence....
i am a pakistani and a compelled many qatari's to say me sorry
Adam_N/nile,
I don't think I am superhuman, but I do honk when someone lets an idiot who has been there for 2 minutes merge in front of them, when we've all been waiting for 15-30 minutes.
I also honk at the huge karwa bus who cuts in front of me, and I don't let him.
they think that they are super humans,
Lol then you have the types of Qataris that honk at you for letting someone in front of you merge in front, lol.
Yep, happened at the lights at the underpass next to Landmark.
Lool
such a silly thread! Are you really asking such a question?
Do you think Qataries have no manners? Such generalizations!
It is not a strange thing to see because we are brought up to respect others and to apologize when necessary.
i agree with you...
i think, the younger generation do it more... and its older generation's responsibility to control them....
the younger generation is racist to some extent... they are impolite, and yes, still far far away from the better even....
.....yeah they are better than other Arab nations.....but still far from the best.
malpaso.....being nice with coulleagues or friends doesnt mean that you are a nice or well mannered person.....it means....being nice with everyone...no matter the person is known to you or is a stranger. I think they do have some problem with their attitude towards other nationalities.
-------------------------------------------------------
Whenever I find the KEY to SUCCESS...Someone STEALS it.
i think qataris are better than americans..... lol
;-)
my qatari colleagues are realy realy polite and good....
i have been working in GCC last few years and closely with GCC and Arab peninsula people... i worked very closely with emiratis, syrians, bahranis, qataris, egyptians, sudanese, palestinians etc etc...
and i found qataris are better to deal with... (though i dont know bout saudis and kuwaitis)....
i didnt like bahrainis .... :( .... sorry to say...
at least some of them knows the meaning of it.
they are all nice people like us.
HOOYAH!
dork, it seems you are STUPID!!
It's alright if Qatari or any Nationality ran to an Indian... They never have feelings anyway! INDIANS are STUPID!

Hahhah See the mirror.r.
Once they do mistake, they will say sorry.. Don’t worry
==============
easy come easy go...
yes starlight143, I agree Qataris are far better than others.they just look like snubbish but they are nicer unlike some arabs(?) as they claim, who are so rude and think they own this country and trying to be superior from others. the truth is...they are also expats here in Qatar.
i think qataries are better than all other arabs like saudi oman kuwait uae etc coz thier manners are better than .. &
if qatari is feeling proud for bieng qatari so we are also proud for bieng aisans or us or md east or .................
we dont want to listen any sorry
proud&pure PAKISTANi
Ive been to other gulf countries...KSA...Qataris are far better than others...i said its not bcoz i am in Doha...but i observed among others...THEY ARE FAR BETTER...! there are few rotten tomatoes...but only few are there...
I overheard some expat ladies talking in the gym today about how sorry they were about having to return to Qatar after recently vacationing in their own countries. There were Qatari ladies also in the dressing room with us and I felt badly that they had to listen to the ladies talk about how much nicer their homes were. Well, I'm sure that home is always a wonderful place to be, but I feel they were inadvertantly rude to those who had to listen. How often expats "rudely" Qatar-bash without even realizing it! Sorry!
Mandi
Ok, I'll stop saying sorry.
I miss driving the landcruiser, I really want to run over some expats. No time, I've got to go rape the maid and beat-up my wife first.
EMN, this thread is stupid.
some does, some don't for some reason, Qataris or non-Qataris. I may be in the same situation, unable to say sorry when too absorbed and lost in my thoughts.
Glitterfy.com - Glitter Graphics
another lovely generalizing thread.
And some of the comments, whether jokes or not, are absolutely rude. Who'll bet that those people won't bother apologizing as well.

Mr. Q's Blog - A Qatari's view on Qatar.
Most of them are polite and if they kept you waiting they normally apologize for that. We have dealt with many of them and not even once treated the way the other Arab nationality will do (no need to mention where they are from). I have seen Qataris many times when we go to City Center, there are some ladies who are well dressed, looks very rich, while we were at Starbucks. she called the cleaner and gave him bunch of money passing it to his hand, just like that!
i think he said sorry by mistake !!!!!!!! maybe if he wasnt phoning he wouldnt ever say sorry!!!
u may not believe this but my sponser
45 year old qatari and my boss
alwayz appologises by saying that" sorry if i hurt u in any way of if u fealt bad for any actions of mine"whenever i leave for a vacation or umrah
he is one of its kind in doha
------------------------------------------------------
My boss told me " you are fired"
I told him " boss i didnt hear the shot"
My point being that just like any other people there are good and bad among everyone...
this just happened yesterday
I was in a Chillis and just negotiating my way to my seat when one of the ladies in a bunch of Qatari ladies stepped backwards right in to me...
As I fixed my eyes firmly and politely on the ground to avoid the usual stare that follows, the sweet lady looked me in the face and said,"Sorry"
My wife was pleasantly surprised too...
All Qatari same like you...human being
duh!!
[img_assist|nid=7232|title=Dua|desc=Amen :-)|link=none|align=left|width=440|height=56]
Do I live in a different world ??
I have found the Qataris to be friendly, easygoing and courteous in the main..
Sorry?
--------------------------------------
Thanks Qatar!!
Most of the people here said...."They have a lot of Qatari friends/coulleagues and they have always found them nice & well mannered".
My Point is .... Even the worst mannered person would be nice to his friends/coulleagues. your Good Manners, Politeness or Humbleness can't be judged when you are among the people you know. It can be judged when you smile at someone you dont know, you greet someone who is stranger to you, you say sorry/thanks to someone you have never met....am i wrong?
PS: Though its been only three years that I am living in Qatar....but till now....I have encountered a very few locals with a normal behaviour towards other Non-Arab Nationalities.
-------------------------------------------------------
Whenever I find the KEY to SUCCESS...Someone steals it.

did u think qataris are people who never say sorry.they are the best people u can find in the world
its me
it is always admirable for someone, anyone - locals of a certain country or not to say "sorry" for any mistakes, blunders, pains or any inconvenience caused.
And from a local Qatari, rich and .. rich, this is indeed a very admirable gesture - indication of people not spoiled by their success and wealth. May all the locals of any country be mixed with this breed!
Cheers!

lool dohaboytoy...
she only yelled ? i remember when i had the same feeling and tat lady hit me with tat pointed stupid sandle of her on my HEAD....:(
Wish i can see her again.....!!!
one time at work, a Qatari guy came to me very very angry. he is almost yelling at me telling his complains.. as a new employee, iwas so shocked though i am aware of his request which my boss declined it earlier. but after a couple of days. he came to see me in my office to sincerely apologize.. at least after that, he earned my respect.
two Sheik Al Thani's that i knew.
first, the brother of the late Sheik Al thani(who died in car accident) his brother is so very approachable. and oh..he would also always ask "kumusta po?" whenever he pass by at my office.
the other one, another Sheik Al Thani.. i really admire him, his such a very humble Sheik. He even came to personally say thank you and introduced himself.
aside from them, hmmmm.... :-D
Feel Free To Hate Me
lol this is funny........dohaboytoy.
Aana free, jaana free,
Pakde gaye tho khana free.
rarely though, i had scary moment at carrefour with a qatari lady. I was doing some shopping and i was not looking at my. Then i felt something soft touching my elbow, and i continued feeling it...then i looked back, it was qatari lady's boobies. She almost yelled at me
http://smalltalketc.blogspot.com
It is much better to avoid a mistake, then you don't have to say sorry. My Qatari friends avoid mistakes, that's why I don't hear them say sorry. (They don't have to).
well I think Qataris are king and nice. Not to mention guys wanting to give you a lift...
All Qatri is so kind and help full guy,
i have more expireans,
who said QATARI not said any time SORRY
That happens by coincidences or on subconcious mind without really means what he says..sorry. Statistically it would 1/1000000 probability. Why would they say sorry when it can be bought with money, and thats the very reason why we are all here.
all qatari people r not jerks some of them r very kind to the expats.....................
all qatari people r not jerks some of them r very kind to the expats.....................
Dont expect a sorry after he has mounted his LC ;-)
Then he becomes supreme!!!...lol
Why does it surprise people that there are nice, polite, respectful Qataris??! Male and female. It seems we (expats) are the ones who should get off our high horses.
I have met numerous decent Qataris. There are good and bad in all societies.
I've heard an Arab in white headdress and thawb say sorry, but I did not ask him his nationality so I cannot say if he is Qatari or not. I've been told the white keffiyeh is commonly worn by Qataris here, while the red-and-white one is usually worn by Emiratis. Is this true?
Anyway, I was standing in line at an ATM machine and there were two such youngsters in front of me. After finishing up they turned around and were discussing something, then noticed that they were in my way, and said "sorry, ma'am".
I've met some polite, well-bred Qataris, and also rude, ill-bred ones, which can also be seen in people of other nationalities.
But it's understandable how hard it is for expats to avoid stereotyping Qataris since we do get to experience many inconveniences here from the negative attitudes of many locals. Just try to keep an open mind and get to know the country a bit more.
I heard 'sorry' from a Qatari. And that's not a big deal when you admit your fault. Is it?
Sah EMN !!
Aana Watani Chicken....lol
he must have said "i m sooo rahi"
which means according to him "were u sleeping"(taking in to account the quick translation he did in his mind for what he actually wanted to say in arabic)
My boss told me " you are fired"
I told him " boss i didnt hear the shot"
RIzks inta watani then......
Aana free, jaana free,

I see an indian or a bangladeshi -
i say "YA Hindi or YA BAngali....
Am i a QATARi ?
*wink*wink*
He must have said "i m soo rahi(sleeping)" which actually mean's ----are u sleeping-----
strickly considering the grammer which they use while speaking english(translating it in english for what he wanted to say in arabic .and taking in to account what he meant by that.
-------------------------------------------------------
My boss told me " you are fired"
I told him " boss i didnt hear the shot"
Never ever heard it. I deal with them most days at work!
Sorry its true they will flatout call you a liar and once you prove them wrong there is anever an apology.
Qataries are a Good Nation, many times i heared kind words from them...
Even my Boss is QATARI and he have a very good manners and he respects to everyone.....

My point is that unless you really don't know his true Nationality you should not mention ! :-D
the guy next to the counter was probably a sales man writing something.....He din't open his mouth until i left.
its not easy to identify someone form the asian sub continent..Indians, srilanks, bengalis they all look alike.
Aana free, jaana free,

You can't teach experience...
They're humans just like us. There are good and bad lots.
What I mean is, because of what negative experiences others get from a few, people tend to generalize about the locals so freely.
I was about to type just that...he can spot a Qatari but cant recognize a Indian from Srilankan or Pakistani :p you need to brush up on your nationality identity skills :P

Aana free, jaana free,

well budy you faced a teenage
baday baday sheroon maey
aise choti choti bathein hothi rehthin hain
There two types of Qataris :)
Well Educated - They are the majority of the population as far as my experience goes. These guys are real gentlemen. Most of my qatari friends and coleagues fall under this category.
Not so well Educated - These are the ones who are very hesitant in mixing with the 'outsiders'.They also have a HUGE language problem. And thats one of the reason why they come across as rude sometimes. But I have realized that they dont do it intentionally but that they just come across like that.
Just my two cents.
Life is Beautiful...Indeed!
a'ad ya akhi...
i mean he was different from the other locals...who would sit in their cars and honk if he needs anything.....i gave him 10 out of 10.
Aana free, jaana free,

Qatari people are not so bad that if one of them said sorry to an Asian guy so you start feeling its something special... No...
