DOHA: Finally after over three decades of serenading people with their love songs, Air Supply will be performing here in Doha this October.

The duo composed of Englishman, Graham Russell and Australian, Russell Hitchcock who are the voices behind chart-topping hits ‘All Out of Love’, ‘Goodbye’ and ‘The One That You Love’ are set to mesmerize an audience comprising music lovers from various communities, according to Nhoy Ala, President of Pag-Iribang Bicolnon (PIBQ) — a Filipino group organizing the concert.

“We have received a lot of calls since the first concert teaser was published several days ago, many of them thanking us for bringing Air Supply to Doha for the first time,” Ala told The Peninsula, media partner of the event.

“The main reason why we decided to have Air Supply among other foreign artistes is that they have a very strong fan base here,” he said, adding the duo’s followers belong to different nationalities reaffirming the artists’ worldwide appeal.

Around 9,500 people are expected to attend the concert which will see the duo sing their signature hits that catapulted them to fame in the soft rock ballad genre.

Hailed by critics as the most ‘Successful Pop Group and ‘Best Pop Group’, Air Supply still enjoys popularity with many of their songs revived by various singers worldwide.

The trademark sound of Russell Hitchcock’s soaring tenor voice and Graham Russell’s simple yet majestic songs that entranced music aficionados around the world would cast a spell on Dohaites in probably the biggest concert of the year.

Their Doha stint simply called ‘Air Supply On Tour 2009’ will be held at the Qatar Foundation Ceremonial Court on October 15, 8.30pm.

Tickets are priced from QR100 to QR400 and would be available by next week, according to the organizers. Reservations could be made through Richard (5476019), Dulce (5829182) and Wilet (5733581).

I'd watched the concert and felt like a decent concert. Few songs were rocking, considering the type of stage acts they rendered. The crowd was peaceful; no bad slangs, violence...and the band did a wonderful job, entertaining the crowd. their current lineup was really tight and kept all kinds of audiance satisfied. the organising was pathetic. how can someone expect to see chairs lined for a concert. nobody came there to watch philharmonic orchestra. finally the crowd left the chairs and lined in front of the stage, which made the feel of a real concert. the sound system was not that powerful, especially at the front. we were actually hearing the songs from the stage monitors and not from the PA System. the sound guys should have done a better job. anyway, it was a good concert. please rockheads, under stand that this was not a headbanger's ball. i personally feel that U2, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi etc should be bought in. the venue was clean and well maintained, let us look forward to see iron maiden, metallica and megadeth performing doha.

I was a mere 30+ when they were popular and enjoyed their music (in the US). Just this May my wife and Is aw them in Las Vegas and they were a great act. Music does not have to be loud and contemporary to be enjoyable, espcially in this city that screams for recognizable entertainment. I would highly recommend seeing their tour, they still sounds great, even if their stuff is 20 years old.

@ azilana,apologies...redirect to the moron who wrote that article but then again with the newspapers & the quality of the entertainment in this town, even a philharmonic orchestra performance would be titled "so & so philharmonic orchestra to ROCK doha"...

@ theresoon,i agree that a large demographic in this country wouldn't appreciate air supply or their ilk but knowing & appreciating are 2 different things right?...i know & have heard air supply, just wouldn't pay hard earned money to see them perform mate...& by the way,me & a small no; of people in this country aren't into shakira & akon just like we're not into air supply,etc...so it's not just black & white...

Ofcourse no one will appreciate Air Supply in Doha. I guess only bands like black eyed peas and akon and Shakira's gyrating hips can excite the lot you find here. People who dont treasure music for what it is, and only agree to what is contemporary. They've probably never heard Air Supply's "goodbye", or "making love out of nothing at all" Im not from the Philippines- but Air Supply was surely a part of my growing as well.

Now, that's going back a while...

Since they're digging deep, let me know when Elvis will be in town! I'd pay to see him! ;)

who wrote the title. If you check the link, I just "copy & pasted" the article from the newspaper.

Come to think of it, I still have Air Supply's vinyl records and cassette tapes. And I could know the lyrics of all their songs and yup...sometimes belt out a few of them songs in "karaoke/videoke" sessions every now and then..hehehehehe

erm,air supply to 'rock' doha residents??...i don't think the words air supply & rock go together in the same sentence azilana my friend...more like mushy ballads by a bunch of guys who haven't produced an album in like 20 years or something but ya i guess the filipino community would be ecstatic...as they would be if any mushy, love song type artists perform in Doha & rightly so,considering they're being brought by a filipino association, have a blast you guys but please rephrase that as 'air supply to serenade a (mostly) filipino audience in doha'...@ baldrick2dogs,i 2nd that, some REAL rock please, personally i'd say U2 but qatar doesn't have the logistics to host Bono & gang yet, maybe in about 5 years, until then,Def Leppard maybe?...
