what's the best way to beat the heat in Doha

highonlife
By highonlife

To say the least, it's typical desert climate out here. Very hot or very cold. What ever said and done, there's no way you can avoid the dust storms that take over the entire place. wonder if there's any other way to beat the heat and 'sand' apart from the most obvious answer - stay indoors!

By highonlife• 13 Jul 2009 10:42

Just to beat the heat ! first you go get oxygen cylinder(s), then you go get helium balloons to tie to the cylinder... you'd much rather stay at home than go through all of this . For all you know, wearing an oxygen mask can be harder than you think (IT IS!) and a LOT expensive too...

So, you got any alternatives to the plan?

By highonlife• 13 Jul 2009 10:38

'beating a dead horse', quite literally!

But i bet i cant beat it like MJ does...

By highonlife• 13 Jul 2009 10:36

but what i like better is the idea of sleeping through the day! But you know, whenever i think i'd do that, i just dont fall asleep. it's like murphy's law or something. im either cooking or reading or watching tv but not sleeping!

strange, eh?

light at 10.30 - was quite something. Yeah well, boots and overalls...only when i feel like it, but now ive figured that summer isnt the best time to wear those. and yes, i am definitely looking to lose some weight.

Planning to go out on a jog in the afternoon! Ha! probably will end up getting burnt than losing that excess fat.

The best way to beat it is Michael Jackson! lol

highonlife. No mate, that comment was meant for a lady in London at the moment. Boots and overalls eh? Hope you want to lose weight!! Just remember to keep drinking water, that's vital, but they are very aware of heatstress here in Qatar, and many precautions are in place on all the major construction sites.

Best Way To Beat Heat is to wear UV protected Abayas along with hand gloves and Socks when you go out.

No matter if you sweat like a PIG, u will still be safe under the Abayas - it will protect ur skin from harmful UV Rays.

10.30pm? light? well, as it is i dont catch enough sleep. the last thing i want is to be up till 3 am and leave for work at 6am!

really it's like 'light' as in 'the sun' or just 'not completely dark'?

By highonlife• 13 Jul 2009 07:09

wow! excellent suggestions there...the best one i like is 'sit in the fridge'!

Actually you guys are right. summer's not even started yet. the humidity is yet to hit in all it's might, and then starts the real fun. well im guessing 'ignoring' the heat will be part of my plan, but like you guys already said how am I gonna ignore something that's gonna be the most powerful thing around me?

Plus, my job requires me to wear coveralls and boots sometimes ...so well, let's see how it goes!

I didnt know it actually gets 'steamy' in the summer here:)

hail to the oxygen cyclinder then...

hear ye hear ye...to all thy affectionados :

the biggest oxygen size is about 6 feet height and an empty one weighing up to 190 lbs and the smallest size is 2 feet and can weigh around 23 lbs (empty)...

just imagine michael angelo and the rest of the ghostbuster gang -- doha version --- while you were carrying an oxygen cyclinder on your way to work or just hanging around the mall...or just simply beating the heat outside...

how cute????

No, I was thinking of a solution. In case it is too heavy I will have to tie some big helium/hydrogen baloons to the cylinder to make it feel light.

We just arrived here yesterday and I don't know the place yet! :P perhaps after couple of months or so, we may consider of getting a car. But you know what? the transport here are easy to access anywhere and I love it! We saw Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and Big Ben. Lots of walking but it's fun because the weather is fantastico! The sun is playing hide and seek today, in fact it's still bright at about 9 PM. can you imagine that?

Have a nice day!

I always think the heat is really not as hot as people want to make you believe. Plus, it is only 2 months and the rest of the year it is AMAZING.

I rather have 45 degrees here, than 35 in Europe.
