1) Joel Plaskett.
Going under two names, either as a solo act or with a band called Joel Plaskett Emergency, he's rocked his way from home-town Halifax across the country and back again. Outside Canada, people are starting to take notice- Perez Hilton recently featured him, and he's been chosen to headline for Paul McCartney at his July 11th show in Halifax.

2)Feist
She performs solo, but also as a member of Broken Social Scene. She's won five Juno's in 2008 (the Canadian version of the Grammy's) including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, and was featured in an Ipod commercial.

3)Bedouin Soundclash
Ontario natives, this group combines more musical genres than seem possible. One of their songs, "12:59 Lullabye" was features on an episode of Grey's Anatomy

4) Great Big Sea
Newfy music at it's greatest, this celtic inspired band rocks pubs and live venues alike. I've never been to one of their concerts where the audience actually sat down!

5)The Tragically Hip
They guys have been rocking since the 80's when they got together as a High School garage band. Since then, they've been inducted into the Canada's Walk of Fame and Music Hall of Fame, as well as receiving Juno's and Governor General's Performing Arts Awards.

also i LOVE number 5 as my dad grew up in the same neighborhood as Gord Downie, the lead singer. Was friends with his older brother and the two of them used to sit on Gord's chest and make him eat grass as kids haha
