Netanyahu's offer to Palestine

**Please please please let this not turn into a thread on holocaust denial and Jew bashing, keep it civil folks!**

So after increased pressure from Obama Netanyahu's made an offer to Palestine to create it's own "state"

The offers a load of crap (here's a link to the terms:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8099749.stm ), but as this article from Al Jazeera & President Obama puts forward, is this a starting point for future talk? http://english.aljazeera.net/news/americas/2009/06/200961613457215405.html
Or as many Arab papers are putting forward is this the end to talks altogether? http://www.gulfnews.com/region/Middle_East/10323214.html

Also, do you think that Obama administration seems to be putting a bit more pressure on Israel?

I can't see peace as long as Likud has so much backing and I definitely don't think he will buckle under any American pressure.

Israel needs a regime change :-)

Has anyone read 'The Doomsday Prophecy' buy Scott Mariani?

Perhaps someone should put the 'Book of Revelation' plot from that into action and let the ensuing mayhem sort the whole situation out.

Yes but Netanyahu has been dealing with Republicans, and Clinton (who while a democrat, had a bit more of a Republican foreign policy). Obama's a Democrat with a Democrat agenda. So I think Netanyahu will find that he doesn't back down as much as the leaders in the past.

Its not an offer, its a stalling tatic. No way they could accept that and he knows it.

The US, EU, China and Russia can agree on N. Korea why not on Israel??? Forget the Arab states they spend too much time fighting each other and disagreeing to be any use.

Or the alternative plan could be to nuke Israel and Palestine and say no one can have the land if they want to carry on being silly.

Obama did have the guts to be more firm with Israel, when compared to past US administrations.

I only hope that he keeps firm with his message and pressure will be applied until Israel realizes their limits.

Theoretically it might start new talks. But the point is that Arabs try to commence talks at the point where previous talks ended. Israelis try always to pull us back to fresh talks which means bringing things back to corner zero.

They know how to play games and are professional in wasting time

I believe Obama means well and can push the process forward. However, we have seen in the past that Netanyahu is very hawkish and has a powerfull lobby to support him in the USA. The onus is also on the Arab leaders to formulate a stand to support the Palestinians and drive the process..

Hmmm, while he has some points there I can't agree with it, as personally it's just a call for more violence.

I agree Netanyahu's speech is a joke, and an insult to the Palestinians at best, however I do think it's a starting point to further negotiations, and I think if the Palestinians agree to this, or at lest to sit and talk, you'll find the US supporting them in a lot of aspects.

Obama can't change decades of US support of Israel in a few months, but I think you are going to see a different tact come out of this presidency.

Saw the speech and read the text.. Netanyahu's continuing with the games. He hasn't really addressed any real issues. he has used the same rhetoric in a milder form.

Obama stressed on the iussue of the settlements, but Netanyahu didn't budge.

I personaly think that it is better to have had this speech. Now the Arabs and especially Obama know exactly who they are dealing with.

There is no hope for serious talks in the near future. Just another pass time.

We are not looking backwards. We are looking for sort out the problems of all the groups living in the fair.

Unfortunately. Netanyahu speech added fuel to the extremists and set moderate Arabs into deep sh*t and disappointment.

Not trying to hijack your thread. But I agree to a great extent with Dr. Mahathir Mohd comments on Obama speech and the situation in the area.
