cost of living

Hello,
so I'll be in Qatar in 10 weeks time. Next to my salary my company is offering me a furnished flat, car, all costs related to those and a per diem of about 4000 Qar.
Is it possible for my husband and me to live from that per diem alone? We'd like to save as much money as possible but have no clear idea how expensive food, nor how useful the gym in our apartment building is. We generally prefer fruit, veggies and fish from small local shops or markets instead of from huge supermarkets but will have to see if that's possible at all.
actually the groceries ain't expensive but just the cost of living is becoming too high here...anyways u gimme 500Qr and i can manage with that for the whole month..hehe...but as you said you spend carefully then i bet you can manage with 4500 and can save enuf money monthly...and don't hesitate in askin for any kind of favour from your QL friends....everyone is very helpful here:)
4500 plus my normal salary. I'd prefer to save as much as possible. Renting a house is somewhat tricky in the town where my company has its headquaters. And being fresh from uni I don't have the savings I need for being able to get a mortgage at all there.
At the moment we spend about 2200Qr on all groceries & personal care and eating out once per month, and that's in one of the most expensive countries in Europe.
maybe it will do..just spend wisely and budget everything..

Are you saying that they are offering 4500 or that your per diem is 4500 plus your salary? If you don't eat out a lot you can get by on 4500 for food, and the rest of your salary would go toward anything 'extra' that you want here. Or savings.

Just checked: it's ~4500Qr, not 4000.
Rebel, what do you mean? Are groceries so enormously expensive in Doha that this amount is not sufficient for a somewhat ballanced diet for two or do you mean masses of clothes and other stuff shopping and eating out every evening? If so: we really don't need that, and besides, we need to drag all the stuff we buy out of Qatar again or throw it away at the end of our stay.
4000 will not be enuf for monthly expenses ...specially shopping :D ,,,but it all depends on you how you spend your 4000 bcoz the company is paying for rest of the expenses...people live here in 400 monthly also...:(
Me too, but being a trainee doesn't give me the opportunity to negotiate per diems. I mean, generally it's just meant as a kind of hardship addition to my normal salary, which is generous enough. I can perfectly well live on the pd in the country I am atm. Costs are presumably much higher, but so is the per diem.
i'd ask for heaps more.
4000 Qr is not bad at all, you can spend it but be wise enough.
