Expats

On the “quality”, or possible lack thereof, of expatriates in Qatar.
.
.
" I’ve gone out both with Asian and expat men (western and eastern) and my lesson to learn is: expats are just for fun and not to be taken seriously.
.
Most of them that comes over here, especially the westerners, are those who cannot “compete” in their country.
And when they come over here, they make better living because Qatar pays expats waaaaaay better than us.
Then they became like kings, thinking that they are superiors, and some girls fall for them.
For instance, would you think a very successful and smart lawyer, or businessmen in England would move to a country like Qatar?
And the houses they live in in villas, when they go back to their countries, say, Italy, they will just live in a one bedroom apartment (or a studio) with no driver and a really small car, commuting to the city?
.
I deal with lots of western expats, some of them are my friends.
They told me that when they are here, they are handsome.
In their countries, they are invisible.
.
There you go, a confession from an Australian:<<- Some expats are even so obnoxious, having to live in the states for long, I know they are the loser kind but when they are here, they are surrounded by women and think that they are God’s gift to women.>>
.
When a smart, rich, independent Asian women dates an expat here, that expat must be a really damn good one! "
.
Certainly some home truths there, but the “Most of them…” part may not stand up to analysis.

[P.S. - I am part of "Most of them:..:) ]

It is case to case!
IT staff who doesn’t know how to format? Couldn’t believe it! Probably someone not qualified for the position. One thing for sure your company gets the worth of labour they pay for.

If there's any basis to coming over here because expats can not make it in their own country, it is only because Western countries have so many resources and education availabilities, that the universities are producing far more qualified people than the job market can support.
I personally am hugely overqualified for the job I am currently in, but due to so much, and such high quality competition, I and many others, are settling for jobs below our education levels, just to have a steady income.
On top of this, I see an opportunity to earn more money faster than people in my own country can. We're not "losers", we're opportunists, and smart ones at that.
How many of us Westerners actually came over here and pointed at a swanky villa and said, "I want that one'?? We are provided with one or we get the money, sometimes we add to it out of our pocket to get something nicer. Our perogitive don't you think?
Some of us (takes a deep breath) don't want to be here at all, but we were posted here at the request of the company with the impilcit remark of, ' if you don't go, you won't have a job.
My house back home is far nicer than the one I live in here. I am not complaining, it is nice enough but we had to come here and I gave up a lot to do so for the sake of my husbands career.
I can't actually get what silly c&w means. She is slagging of who for what exactly? Did she try it on with somebody and get knocked back??
Stupid woman.
Why are you flooding all the post?

I think you have me confused with someone who gives a sh1t.
She's referring to expats in Indonesia right? Cause from my experience that's a pretty good description of western male expats in Korea.
i didn't see any thing wrong with a chance to work outside your country, in reality only the best will get the opportunity... so saying like one can not compete and that’s why become expat, is not right...
I left my country to get a better (= tax free) salary. I couldn't help but laugh at this heap of crap. Yep, we are soooo unqualified and unskilled and ugly, really. That's why our ASIAN IT department couldn't fix my work laptop for 3 months and asked me what I meant with "just format it". We're also very unskilled, really. We can only fix things in our house after 5 Asian/Arab laborers screwed it up for us. And sure we're all soooo ugly, that's why those horny Arabs and Asians have to whistle at us. Anything else to add? If somebody's salary is lower it might be due to lack of education, experience, skills or all together. Stop whining and start doing something about it.
as I nod my head to brit....totally agree....
Nobody in his right mind would leave his country and serve other people...Imagine somebody would leave his loved one in exchange for a better future to those people back home....

I have never met an "Expat" who didn't leave his / her home country for betterment. This could be financial, spiritual etc.
uh oh....another bashing story...;(

There are some of us Western Expats who come here for a learning experience and a life adventure. My family being one of those, we have learned some surprising lessons from being here.
One is that we are experiencing what we call "reverse discrimination". What I mean by that is compared to the US, things are geared here for the Qatari obviously, which there is nothing wrong with that, but after living in our home country, we were the ones who saw other nationalities in the US being discriminated against.
For example, I was born and raised in South Texas. There is a large number of Mexican Americans living there as it is only 3 hours away from the Mexican border. Many people in S. Texas are upset that every time they call a place of business, they hear a recording that says "Press 2 for English". In other words if you don't press anything, then you are connected to someone who speaks Spanish. Many people back home have joined a movement where if Mexicans want to live in the US, they should learn to speak English. I was never one of those people as living in a community that had many Hispanics living there, I learned Spanish naturally by being exposed to it all the time.
Living here in Qatar gives me a unique perspective in that being an expat, my language is not the native language here, and it is difficult at times for me to communicate with people at places of business, or doctor's offices. I can completely understand how the Mexican American feels now. Arabic seems to be a hard language to learn when you have never been exposed to it before, especially since there are many different dialects being spoken here.
I could go on with other comparisons, but that will make this post even more lengthy than it already is. Suffice it to say that some expats come to Qatar with good intentions, to better their lives, broaden their knowledge, and have a unique experience. Being here has made me a better person in effect.
Motherhood...The hardest job you'll ever love! : )
She keeps using the word "comes" a lot.. Freudian slip mayhaps..
"I’ve gone out both with Asian and expat men (western and eastern) and my lesson to learn is: expatriates are just for fun and not to be taken seriously."
Can Asians not be Expats ???
Also, she's willing to "use" expat men for fun, but not for a long term commitment - says a lot about her..
Alas, I am not handsome neither here, nor in my own country :(
hhhmmmm....
"Friendship is a single soul dwelling in two bodies."
this are the facts for many...
When I moved to Qatar, it was for a better life for my son away from the crime and drugs in England.
I actually earned more a week in England than I did a month in dohell.
I had a 3 bed house, a decent car and a fantastic social life with my friends.
So for that idiot to say that we are only here cos we are losers in our own country shows that they have absolutley no clue .

I think you have me confused with someone who gives a sh1t.
with the comments on housing. The ones that complain the most and are more demanding are frequently those that have nothing great in their base country. Then when they are given cash to rent a decent house in Qatar, they opt for a flat and pocket the balance of the cash.
