Doha is still young when you compare with Dubai...

If Dubai is liked for the Glamour it has.. Doha for the peace of Mind it gives.....

I came from Mumbai, India here... The city is hell..... 24x7 alive, on a run... very fast life.... the whole city is as busy n lively as time square or wall streets you know...

The Calmness of Doha was like a Gift after the hard earned life in Mumbai...

Alexa - I agree about doha being a better place to be right now due to work situation being better here - i was reloacted from dubai recently and have friends there in construction as well who are being shipped over here too - fortunately not fat and balding although u'll see them in the irish bar for sure!

Anyway i'm off to dubai this weekend to swim in faeces amongst the high rises - wish me luck! lol

Doha is just a giant ugly strip mall. All bullshit and no substance. Hey I've got an idea.. why doesn't the Emir and company build a corrupt slave playground and fill it with empty western garbage to be resold at high price. Then all the egotistic residents can buy up all kinds of worthless crap to try and impress each other. What a pathetic dirt strip catering to the tackiest sensibilities.

Sorry to rant. I clearly hate so much about this country.

Doha soon to have a new fabulous airport. My hubby is a Structural engineer and they are working on the new airport. He says will be very impressive one! So, you can cross that off your list! :-p

So Alexa have u been to dubai or u just basing ur opinions on newspapers? I reckon dubai is the bollox - great beaches (the best beaches at jbr/marina are unaffected with the clearest water i've ever seen).

I spent 12 months there and moved here 3 month ago. Very different places but i would say dubai has more to offer.

The beaches

Better malls

More and heaps better bars/restaurants

Cheaper places to drink, great cafes where u can sit outdoor (hard to find here)

Water parks

Nice green parks (safa park)

Better supermarkets

Dubai has got a real vibe to it.

Take each one in isolation and it may seem not to make much difference but as a whole life is easier there and more enjoyable. My weekends felt like i was on holiday whereas here i feel trapped apart from going to irish bar or the souk there doesn't seem to be much else.

Khanan..good point!!

Ofcourse my thoughts above are based on the assumption that qualified people must utilise the resources..

I don't think we have enough Qatari expertise but we can partner and recruit and consult..this is what is happening now..

By britexpat• 29 Apr 2009 14:43

To each his own..

To me Dubai is too plasticky, fake, bland, stale, cliquey and hectic..

But that's only my personal opinion..

Do we have high itlectuals at right position make these advantages into reality?

I hope Qatar does not become Dubai and I think Dubai is not a standard Qatar must be looking for...

I better opt for Abu Dhabi much better than DXB in many aspects.

I don't think Qatar will be like Dubai..it will be similar in some aspects as I believe we are learning from them in real estate industry..however, we have oil and Gas and bigger land which will naturally be factored in future development, something which Dubai does not have, and thise is where Qatar's advantage is and it is what will make Qatar different than Dubai...not to say Qatar will be nice place though!

By Rasha.Rasha• 29 Apr 2009 14:21

Rasha, ask yourself, "why does Dubai have all the things Qatar doesn't?"

You should find the simple answer that Dubai's Oil and Gas reserves are dwindling and they are boosting tourism as a revenue earner.

Qatar is sat on a huge gas bubble and doesn't need tourism as much.

And at the end of the day, if you like Dubai and what it has to offer so much, you could always move there, but till then, be satisfied with what you adopted host country has to offer.

+1 Tallg, you beat me to it.

Rasha, How many souqs does Dubai have? I've only ever seen one.

Malls, gee whiz, I can shop anywhere.

Cafes,? We have plenty.

What does Dubai have that I'd like to see here?

1. Wild Wadi

2. A Go Kart track

3. A decent international airport terminal.

4. Ace Hardware!

5. Bacon.

6. Reasonably clean public beaches.

7. Better Drivers.

8. Decent Rock shows.

But do I NEED all those? Not really.
