I got the running blues

Tigasin321

Are there any runners out there that can help me on this one? I run approximately 35k per week (around 22 miles) as part of an overall fitness program. I sometimes run the track at Aspire but usually I run on a treadmill because its usually too hot here to run outside.

My problem is that I have flat feet and need good running shoes that actually support my flat arches. Does anyone know of a shoe shop here that analyzes running styles and feet to ensure that the best shoes are purchased?

Any info gratefully received.

Tig, new shoes wont solve the issue, you need to get some orthodics. Your feet and your back will thank you as fallen arches are detrimental to your spine when you are doing high impact sports such as running. If you dont sort it soon you will also start feeling it big style in your knees.

Orthodics are a bit pricey but generally last a lifetime. Fallen arches are a nightmare and if not sorted you will have to resort to water aerobics :)

Hey tigasin, you can check Athlete's foot in Villagio. They have a foot analyzer there to check your arches although not your pronation. They have a good stock of running shoes too -- Asics, Saucony, New Balance.

Talking about pronation, you can check the soles of your running shoes to see how you wear them out. From there, you can determine if you under or over pronate and buy the running shoes you need.

I hope this helps...good luck!

I am on my way. 35k is not much running in a week. Its quite easy and is only part of an overall fitness program. The other elements are hot yoga and weight training.

The risk of blisters though is ever present. Unfortunately, my quest for fitness is full of risk and danger.

A week is a long time to cover 35km. Perhaps his new shoes will help him run faster.

I think Tigasin is already on his way to the Abu Karbal book store...

:)

but hey, 35Km per week is impressive..

Tig, if you are driving from Ramada, go straight from the center r/a, take a u-turn at the r/a under the jaida bridge and take the first right. This shop is somewhere on your right hand side after you cross the second signal/junction on that road. If you reach the Brook building you have gone ahead of that shop. i have a vague recollection of this shop having a tailor's shop next to it. not very sure.

Tig: There is a place in Bin Mahmood where they'll get these kinda stuff done. But you'll have to wait for a coupla weeks coz they have to get the stuff from France or UK or somewer(not sure) after taking ur measurements and sending it across. Its one of those shops across the road from the Abu Karbal book shop.

has gone away now but it was on my left foot right on the fallen arch. I bravely used a sterilized needle to make two small holes in the blister one at the top to let the air out and the other at the bottom to let the fluid out.

Usually it is advisable to let the blister heal on its own but if you are an athlete like me, you do not have this luxury and the blister has to be dealt with directly and bravely as I described above.

I am really sorry that I missed you on your visit to Qatar. I was away in Dubai but I hope that I am in town for your next visit.

Tallg, thanks for your understanding regarding the fallen arches it is a serious problem although often ridiculed. I once got a blister too but I am not going to talk about that in case people think I am an attention seeker.

I think you should start a whole new thread about your blister.

There's currently a thread discussing how to tell the sex of a cat from it's bum-hole, with pictures included. It can't get worse than that.

Yes, I saw the memorandum, but I believe that unsupported arches is an extremely urgent matter.

But then again, if you catch swine flu I've heard that you grow pigs trotters*, so then the shoes would be pretty useless.

The Qatar Minisrty of Health has advised against non urgent travel to London as there is a risk of contracting Swine flu. I believe that Swine flu is detrimental to health but I could be wrong.

Always with the medical questions tig! I feel like you're just using us :(

I'm not aware of anywhere in Doha that can do that. If you're going to London the Nike store on Oxford street can do the analysis. Worked wonders for me.
