I have no idea...well, your RP or PR has the information of your religion and your HR just need to attest...whatever...i dont care...this discussion needs to be sat down with vodka or beer...

You better go in the morning on a Thursday. Things get pretty busy there on Thursday afternoons.

But to be fair, QDC is one of the best run retail operatiosn in Qatar. The license process is quick and easy, and everything is processed while you wait. None of this 'come back in 5 days' crap you get elsewhere.

Speak to your sponsor to confirm you have the right papers, and then you can go shopping!

The office (where you get the permit) is open at 10am, the shop itself opens at 1030. Not sure when the office closes.

For cooking wine just buy a cheap box (not bottle) of wine from QDC.

You won't find anything you can really substitute for cooking wine other than stock.

Here is a link to directions for Qatar Distribution Centre (QDC) where you can buy alcohol.

As someone else said, alcohol IS allowed in Doha. But you need to obtain a license for it first. And I believe there is a topic somewhere in QL which shows where liquor stores are. I'll try and find it.

well baldrick, look what Qatar cop just said....he must be 24/7 peeping my moves...lol...

I am in the process of getting license.

As per your suggestion of any other wine, I appreciate the suggestion but I would rather have my dinner first then I will get drunk...just kidding....

Ollie, what's this "alcohol isnt allowed" business? It is allowed provided you have a license.

Any wine can be cooking wine. Cheap crap wine just gives a cheap crap taste. Use a good wine and make a reduction.

We had looked around for rice wine and never found any. I wonder if the QDC has cooking wines as they are the alcohol distributor here?

Motherhood...The hardest job you'll ever love! : )
