Qatar Charity - What is this ?

novita77
By novita77

Few days ago I went down to Villagio for lunch with my son, and on the entrance of the food court end my son pointing out this Qatar Charity big green box and ask what is this?

My bet, this is the box that you can put the stuff that you want to give away to people through Qatar Charity.

Anybody can confirm that? And can anyone clarify what you can and can not put inside the Qatar Charity Green Box or whatever name you call this box is?

Saving Food Project (حفظ النعمة), collects all the food leftovers catered at clubs and lavish weddings, they re-sort and wrap it properly, then distribute to the needy. They have other activities too. Their numbers are:

6864833

5711910

Also, this link, below, is in Arabic (I’m not sure if there is one in English), contains a video that shows their activities.

It's such an easy way to give donations - this is exactly what we want to be able to do with QAWS. To have collection bins where people can buy a can of food when they're shopping and drop it in.... One day we will....

Agree with Vegas - "They need to take the recycle emblem off the side"

- The recycle emblem suggests that it's s trash bin and Qatar Charity sponsored that trash bin, promoting or encouraging people to recycle stuff. Of course, the T-Shirt picture on the box raises suspicions that this is not so, but how many people think to verify their assumptions in Qatar? ... except for Novi and like minded people. Generally, people don't. When they don't know, they also don't ask and just don't bother.

Thanks Novi for posting and Speed for explaining :0)

/I don't have any old clothes or shoes to donate. I wash and wear the same outfits every week. My colleague taught me how to answer anyone who criticizes me for being dull. Ask critic to buy me a brand new outfit and then I'll wear something new. Good one, eh?

Weasel, you shouldnt chuck it .... if you folded it nicely and leave it inside the plastic bag and put it next to the bin near the construction area, someone will take the bag (usually the worker). I usually does that with my husband clothes.

I have been looking for these ever since I arrived here. Guilty of chucking unwanted clothes in regular bins as I didn't see any alternative.

so if this 'green box' taking used clothes or shoes, we can drop our old ones on the way buying new ones to the mall?

Speed ... thank you for explaining, if they have these 'green boxes' around the mall certainly it would be easier for us to give away our old clothes and stuff to Qatar Charity.

So apart of old clothes or maybe shoes, what else can we put inside?

Anyone?

We like to cook "Big" when we invite people, we would usually distribute whatever we can to the neighbors, but they would get unusually large portions (there's too much food).

They also have a phone number that you can call, and they would come in a van, pick-up any extra food, and distribute it to lots of poor people in normal portions.

Looks like a clothes & shoes recycling box. I know Qatar Charity have always accepted clothes and shoes, but it's good that they're now making it obvious and easy to do.
