Accidents just waiting to happen!

I'm really annoyed with these kids riding their bikes, mind you, little bikes (barbie bikes,3-wheeled bikes, etc.) along the main streets of our compound. The place where I live now is considered a little community and there are two-lane roads with small R/A's inside. Now, every night when we get home to park, these kids are making the parking lot their playground. And to think that the street lamps are not that well-lighted, you could have missed some of them in dark areas while driving! What's worst? Some even played with their RCs, skateboards, roller skates & scooters, all with wheels you could imagine:( oh boy-sometimes I can see their parents just standing by w/ ignorance. They don't anticipate the danger that would take place if some motorists would hit their kids because some of them were so small, as in small-3 feet in height? If you're driving an SUV, you can't even see the kid from the hood of your car! What to do? Contact the management to call the attention of these kids' parents residing in that compound.
Hopefully they will take some proper actions before anything worse happens.

kids trucks, bikes and whatever toys are left on the driveway inside the compound...what we do is just moved them to the sides.

i see kids play without parent's supervision even as little as 2 or 3 yrs old. all vehicles in our compound drive with caution...

nicaq25. I see your concern. To that I fully agree that Parents are the one fully responsible. First all I know that my kids are in Bed by 7pm at the latest. But the norm and practice in this part of the world is to let kids run riot late at night.

If they cannot take care of their kids then they should not let them out especially in the dark.

I think you should kindly remind their parents and put signs, "like slow down Kids playing" and also "beware of traffic" I think another way around this to cordone off your parking area so that they little buggers dont get their in the first place.

Reading from your post looks like this compound that you are living in has been designed without any consideration for Safety...

We too had similar issue in our compound. We came to a conclusion of the timings the children can play and the area they can use for playing. ofcourse the speed limit inside the compound. We also decided that the vehicle should give a horn when getting inside the compound so that the children will go to the road sides.

kids still up late at night playing. oh, well, I'll try to be diplomatic with my neighbors and let's see what we can do, but frankly, I'm not that hopeful. I just hope, I won't be posting on my next thread a tragedy related to this. God forbids!

you are about to drive around inside your compound small R/A\,then you turn left going to the open parking lot, it's nigh time (around 8-9pm, the lot is not well-lighted yet then suddenly out from the cars already parking a small boy of -5 years old came out, he's standing just in front your landcruiser car, almost next to your bumper. You have to step on your break, right? The boy's height is 3-4 ft. tall maybe smaller, can you see him now? The mother is just around there standing & chatting with some friends. How do you feel when you're the one behind the wheels? Tell me.

nicaq25.. You said that you can not see kids when your driving in in your SUV.. funny.

As deedee kindly pointed out that the speed limit in compounds is around 10 to 15 kpm. so my friend if your are driving at that pace and with vigilant it should be not a problem. But if you think that compound is like an open road then you surely are putting not only the kids but every one else at risk too.

Like I said it has to work mutually, Parents take responsibility for their Kids and Drivers take responsibility for driving big SUV's.

fyi, I had already complained to the management, and that will be their duty to call the attention of these resident-parents and reprimand their kids. Now, I'm waiting for their actions to be taken (hopefully).

arrange for a meeting ,call all residents of the compound and discuss the issue. Take decision.

Talk to their parents and discuss your point of views regarding the matter.

know if anyone ese feels the way I do, but the kids (running amok, playing racing cars with trolleys etc) who I encounter all over the shopping aisles in lulu/carrefour' really bug me..the way the parents let them run around loose as if they have come to a park..I'am always afraid that some child will get hurt with a trolley or something.Does this bother anyone else or is it just me?

for safety. The speed limit in our compound is 15 and yes, Almost ALL of the children (including mine) play in the street. Why, because the yards are way too small. where do you want them to ride their bikes? It may be annoying to you, but there is no other alternative. Some parents watch closely, others do not. I warn my kids EVERY DAY to be careful. Unfortunately kids are kids and forget things 20 seconds after you tell them. It sounds as if you don't have children yourself. Please, it is the hardest job in the world and give us a break. We are doing the best we can in the situation.

Just slow down when you drive in. be patient and ask them to move and there you go now you can park in your allocated parking lot.. The whole idea of living in a compound is that people can let their kids outside so they can play. It is just a matter of mutual understanding. From your posts it is eveident that you do not have Kids..

and enjoy life as much as possible in a SAFER WAY. There is a difference of being responsible and reckless. The parents should warned their kids the danger of playing on the roads, the kids do not understand that. So unless I think something happens bad (GOD forbids), then they realize how to value life and respect the roads!

The best protection for danger is being cautious. Prevent before it happens.

Same in our compound, little kids in the road and cars driving through like they do on the roads in Doha. FAST. The parents aren't even watching them. It upsets me that these things will not change, so I'm not even going to say anything negative about it.

Its in the Compound....but outside my house....on the roads where the locals vroom their vehicle from 0-100 in 6 sec...the local kids can be found on their 3 wheel bikes....and one even on the petrol operated toy-bike.

Ok....the buggy problem has come down a lot...

I guess it all depends on a lot of factors. When I was a kid I used to play on the street but there weren't that many cars and if there was a car passing by we'd clear the road.

I'm thinking that if it were a compound technically cars shouldn't be driving too fast, the headlights should be enough, plus there should be a couple of speed bumpers around so it should be OK. If you've assessed all factors and deemed it unsafe then I guess you should discourage kids from playing on the road.

Let kids be kids and enjoy their childhood .... we grownups should be more responsible with our driving specially inside the compound

those blooming wheelie trainers. I saw a kid almost sail straight through a plate glass window the other day. Lucky there are no old people here to knock over.

Have the exact same problem at my compund too. These kids have a death wish. Or they're parents are just retarded.

I mean, the street are cars/vehicles not a playground or a race track for these tiny tots with their bikes & skates. Their parents should be mindful about these kids. There is a place for playing and they don't go there instead, they use these roads.

Pretty painful idea, but if they're not there already, maybe some speed bumps might help slow down cars to protect the kids?
