I've just got an offer as a section head in finance dept in a MNC at Doha, Qatar. Its a permanent position.

I'm a Malaysian with total of 18+ years of experience and become a qualified accountant in 2007.

Here's the offer:
-Basic 17.2k QR
-Housing 12.8k QR
-Transport Allowance 1.5k
-Furniture grant 24k
-Car loan 5x salary
-Other standards : education (15k QR), medical, performance bonus and free air ticket once a year

My concern
1) How much can I possibly save monthly (married with 2 kids)
2) Is this a good deal?

Any advice and thought is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the advise singqat. I will be staring my work on Apr 09. I will bring my family later i.e. after I settle down, rent an apartment, found good schools etc.

Go take the job...where can you get 17.2k ? In Malaysia, you must be an MD in a big co. to get 17.2k.

If you do your sums right, you can save a lot of money.

There are a lot of people who are on much lower pay and can save. For example, admin staff gets about 1.8k and you are on 17.2k

Spare a thought for these poor folks.

So go grab that job. The crisis is in Malaysia now..except the govt is in a denial mood.

salamz "abang"...

there's a previous discussion regarding estimated living cost...its about minimum 12k++ (8k aprtmt, 1.5k car, misc) for a small family living in a 2 room apartment..

as for the basic pay, IMHO, its still quite low...maybe at least 3 or 4 times is acceptable...hopefully you can negotiate some more...

anyway, its up to u...all the best~!! ;)

p/s: i havent made up my mind either...hehe

I don't really know how much i going to spend on accomodation, groceries, transportation etc before i can tell you how much I can save.

On the basic salary, I'm getting double from what I'm earning here.

are u sure its more than what u get currently? 18+ years of experience for me...is very very experienced :)

can u tell how many times roughly u'll be able to save compared to your current monthly or annual saving?
