The recently opened Sardar Bhagat Singh College of Technology and Management in India decided that they wanted someone really famous and powerful to be their leader.

So the school officials named Hanuman, the Hindu monkey god as chairman:

Hanuman, the popular god known for his strength and valor, has been named official chairman of the recently opened Sardar Bhagat Singh College of Technology and Management in northern India, a school official said Saturday.

The position comes with an incense-filled office, a desk and a laptop computer. Four chairs will be placed facing the empty seat reserved for the chairman and all visitors must enter the office barefoot, said Vivek Kangdi, the school’s vice chairman.

"It is our belief that any job that has the blessings of Lord Hanuman is bound to be a success," said Kangdi.

Salax85, you were focusing your humour on Surds. Now you are hurting my feelings. There is nothing like a sona sona sardar munda. They are already on the verge of extinction. Are you aware that you are hurting a rare species. Tsk Tsk very shameful.

Girl marries dog in bizarre ritual

(00:42) Rough Cut

Jan 26 - In India's eastern Jharkhand, villagers 'married' off a young girl to a stray dog to ward off an evil spirit.

The locals at Munda Dhanda village performed the ceremony as they believe it will overcome any curse that might fall on the family

Interestingly, the girl is free to get married later in life to a man without even seeking a divorce.

Superstitions are widespread in India, especially in rural areas where literacy is scarce.

to learn Hindu mythology; which is based on the ancient religion on Earth (Idol worship)....

One should not only read vedas and mytho books (like Ramayana, Mahabharatha) but also try to know about their authors and biography of this authors.....You will really amazed!

Learn yourself and explore; what I am trying to say.

Joudy, India is not just a dot on the map. It is a huge country. Certain places in India are still bereft of education. In interiors of a forest around the state of Bihar there are tribals who live naked on trees (I have witnessed them). They are fierce and have a reputation. However the government does not disturb them as they have ancient practices and are almost a heritage. Such tribal communities are there in many forests in and around India (inc. Himalayan region). So if you have seen educated indians don't think that all Indians are open minded. Superstitions are still alive and very much a part of India.

PM : Hindu mythology is very vast and complicated and interwined with the daily life of Hindu Indians, who by and large are very superstitious. Some even practise black magic and tantric practices on daily basis.

Not many are aware about the old 'Gurukul' method of teaching in ancient India which gave a lot of importance to the 'monkey god'. In Hindu mythology the 'monkey god' is believed to be a good teacher as he improved the stubborn most student 'Shani'. His ways - highly disciplined, always alert and ready to follow instructions without questioning authority etc... make him popular with the students as they are believed to inculcate his habits by chanting his name and meditating on him. Although I should admit 'Hanuman' as chairman is very orthodox and funny in this era.

Really! Hats off to you. Out of all the news you had to find this one.

Salax - Your sense of humour is disgusting and hurtful. I wish I could stoop down to your level. Are you educated? If yes,you and your equally ignorant friends can go to the link below and find out what Hanuman 'Symbolises' in Hinduism and how reverred he is in the Indian society. Link below:

This is just a wikipedia link. Send me a PM if you are interested to know/learn more.

I agree that some comments may be misconstrued. I think that most of the people were making fun of the college and not the Hindu Deity.

Sorry Brit..Though its about the institution and its management, its indeed an insult to the ones who worship that particular God with the sort of comments posted on.

Some worhdip statues of their believes..

Some worship on nothing but in one direction..

Some worship just two pieces of log..

One might find the other funny, but we got to be matured and wise enough to respect eachother and live.

Pinkberry,

He can discuss even criticize all the religions other than him. But if somebody dare draw a cartoon or name somebody after their GOD, they are going to behead you, bet.

Don't worry Pinkberry our's is the most liberal religion in the world, there is no doubt abt it. Even we are allowed to criticize and have a laugh of our own GOD and religion.
