KUWAIT, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia will donate $1 billion for reconstruction in Gaza following Israel's deadly attacks on the coastal strip, its king said on Monday.

"I announce on behalf of your brothers in Saudi Arabia that the kingdom will offer $1 billion as a contribution under the programme proposed by this summit for the reconstruction of Gaza," King Abdullah told an Arab economic summit in Kuwait. Where were these countries when Israel was killing children and women? When Hamas knew that they can't fight with Israel then why they hide themselves in civilian population which became a big cause of destruction.

Israel done as bad as human can do but what happened to Hamas? Israel killed your children and women to save their families. We are taught that do not kill children and women in war so therefore Hamas did good job that they didn't kill their families but what they did to save their beloveds?

Human life is precious, do not waste like that. if they are saving their lives, u shud also be.

pm: eXACTLY, i belive egypt will increase the number of effectives at their border with Gaza

justbecause: In my opinion both sides are guilty, i never said that the Israeli proceeded correctly, unfortunatelly, some think that there's only 1 side. I have met Israeli and Palestinian, some years ago at a peace conference and instead of blaming only Israel, they pointed out that there was a lot of corruption on Palestina and all they want is that there's peace on their countries.

My point exactly. The Arabs aren't willing to actually commit and go that "extra mile" to resolve the issues. They take short term actions which serve no real purpose.

You see here in lies the problem. Rather than look for a long term solution, the Arabs think that we will act as benefactors - rebuild the infrastructure and people will praise us.. Look back in history. How many times have governments donated money to make themselves look good.

The sad thing is that the inherent problem will remain - namely the ability of Israel to unilateraly "walk in" whenever it likes..

By Qatarkid• 19 Jan 2009 22:14

and no doubt the money will ease the suffering of many - the outcome will likely be another set of fresh targets for the Israelis in a couple of years time.

Surely there should also be a focus on finding a means of preventing a re-occurence and deterring Israel?

There is no consequence for Israel, so expect no behavioural change;

The European leaders are all dining with Olmert whilst their citizens are out on the street in protest???? Will anyone even ask why?

The Americans were signing MOUs with Livni - to help the israelis save face before the ceasefire - like there was any need for an MOU and as if the israelis couldnt have got one without destroying a few thousand lives.

And the good old Arab Leaders were still trying to decide if they should bother meeting at all, who should host and afterall what is the point?

Some of them must have been given some assurances that it was all going to end soon.

Oh and I nearly forgot.... the UN is going to push for an inquiry into why a safe school was hit? - Hello, what about why 400 kids were killed in Gaza?

So you might ask -

What incentive does israel have to actually make peace?

About NONE whatsoever.

What penalty does israel suffer as it continues to oppress the natives?

None whatsoever.

Perhaps the israelis should be forced to pay reparations for all the destruction and a few million for each innocent life they took? Perhaps they would think twice before using Gaza and Lebanon for target practice?

But then the Israelis know that as long as they don't make peace they will continue to receive many more billions and the latest military toys. War is clearly good business.

The future...

- Deja vu and

- The Saudis start saving up for the next billion for the next strike in 2011.

Plato36, are you kidding with your response..lol..who is over reacting? Your right Israel didnt over react at all, they are just like you "peace makers'.

Micahel Heart says it all in this song, as least he has the courage and conviction to state it like it is and not believe all the lies and exagerations that some are to believe. If only the Arab leaders had his convictions.

WE WILL NOT GO DOWN (Song for Gaza)

(Composed by Michael Heart)

A blinding flash of white light

Lit up the sky over Gaza tonight

People running for cover

Not knowing whether they’re dead or alive

They came with their tanks and their planes

With ravaging fiery flames

And nothing remains

Just a voice rising up in the smoky haze

We will not go down

In the night, without a fight

You can burn up our mosques and our homes and our schools

But our spirit will never die

We will not go down

In Gaza tonight

Women and children alike

Murdered and massacred night after night

While the so-called leaders of countries afar

Debated on who’s wrong or right

But their powerless words were in vain

And the bombs fell down like acid rain

But through the tears and the blood and the pain

You can still hear that voice through the smoky haze

We will not go down

In the night, without a fight

You can burn up our mosques and our homes and our schools

But our spirit will never die

We will not go down

In Gaza tonight

Justbecause: One side? Just because i don't agree with any kind of violence? Let me explain you something that was said very often at this forum, VIOLENCE ONLY GENERATES VIOLENCE, would you call Ghandi as one sided?

As a peace worker is my job to find a way to peace excluding any violence. Because the Israelis did what they did, you feal that you have to react the same way ? You say that you are victims but want to have the same behavior as the ones you are pointing?

RPG's are supposed to be anti-tank weapon, how many were used to attack tanks? They choose to use rpg's to hit civilians instead of militars and i'm the one who's one sided? Maybe you are right, my only side is peace.

Plato36, you seem to be a one sided "peace" maker with your views. Nothing wrong with your opinion you are entitled to it but please dont try to preach peace when you are one sided. Profound words for someone who doesnt care about politics. Seems like you are justifying what happened in Gaza.

I salute King Abdullah for his generosity towards the palestinian people.

Cat.inc : Where were the Hamas leaders when their people needed them the most.

A good advise to Hamas, if you wanna prevent another devastating blow, don't react with weapons to the provocations made by Israel but with words.

For some countries, war means Profit, Profit, and Profit.

Now in this financial crisis this war will be the sigh for some countries (ppl know those countries). First they destruct the countries then they build them. Now this $1 bn will go in to others pocket who will build this city from scratch.

It is called War Economy and Industry :)

Here's a novel idea..

Since Israel's attacks are cyclic, why don't we build houses / schools / hospitals which self destruct after 3 years.

That way, the infrastructure can be destroyed as required and Israel won't have to invade and innocent children won't die ..

Win / Win situation

By Justbecause.....• 19 Jan 2009 17:47

Im sure this will be a consolation to the oprhaned children, who wouldve prefered to have their mothers or fathers and their existing homes, schools instead of the money. The money will help but prevention is better than cure. At least this donation will maybe help them sleep at night now.
