Who Are Smart ? (HIJACK FREE TOPIC)

Dracula
By Dracula

No offense to those who are smart, but it seems smart people carry not much sense of common sense.

I have a friend whom is smart and carries a great sense of humor, but his common sense is not so great.
He forgets simple things like where he was sitting, or how does he get home, or he'll forget the light switch a number of times and many times his zipper and also to tie his shoes.
I am not saying he's stupid nor am I saying any smart person is, but my question is, do smart people have less common sense?

I once heard that Albert Einstein couldn't tie his shoes and left them tied all the time.
Don't quote me on the Einstein thing, because it's something I heard about, but not something I know for a fact.

But after knowing many friends whom are smart, they tend to have a little less common sense.
I love my friends and it's just that it's funny when it comes to common sense for them.

So is it true they have less common sense or something wrong with them? I wish I knew. Are they stupid or are they just smart in another way? Like I do, I have a great sense of common sense and a less of a lack for being smart. Are they stupid or just in a different path of smartness then me?

It was Confuscius that first implied that education was merely an accumulation of facts .Intelligence was a measure of knowledge.

Wisdom on the other hand came from the rational questioning if the the prvious two .:-0

why is it considered smart to keep tying and untying your shoes? i never do it and it's saved me loads of time! sure shoes wear out a little quicker but that really isn't all that bad if you think about it.

There is a popular saying that goes,

"Common sense is a particularly UNCOMMON sense".

So true .:-)

Eveyone Has the Neccesary Tools to Be Successful. The Hard Part is Learning to Use Them Effectively

A prominent physicist gave himself a last minute check in the mirror as he prepared himself for the day he had long waited. Taking a second to glance at the reflection of his patiently awaiting chauffer he sarcastically lectured him on the importance of a good education." If you had gone to collegeand really applied yourself it would be you receiving this nobel prize"

Before the physicist could retrieve his breathe from the last comment the chauffer quickly replied "it don't take a whole lot of brains to fool those people like you are smart when you ain't " Hesitantly the physicist turned and issued a challenge that dared his driver to back up his claim by trading places for the pending event.

Stunned at the challenge, the driver cowardly declined saying" you are just gonna do something to give me away". No the physicist replied " as a matter of fact I will do whatever it takes to make sure it is not I who lets the cat out of the bag. As icing on the cake I will even give you the million dollar prize money if you are successful in fooling everyone.

Soon after they arrived at the function the guests swarmed the imposter and began to shower him with compliments and questions. Amazingly he breezed through the assault with nothing more than one word replies and an occasional laugh. As the night began to move into the presentation part of the event a fellow scientist interrupted with a pointed question for the imposter. "Sir what would be your take on reverse pulse polarization, for the stabilization of tackion particles". All of a sudden there deafening silence as the crowd awaited the imposter's answer.

An immediate smirk came to the physicist's face as he just knew now he could savor in the sweet smell of victory. The imposter's mind raced through a thousand emotions as he struggled for a clever answer that would continue to support his cover. Then all of a sudden he slammed the table with his fist as he exclaimed in a firm tone of voice. "How dare you insult my intelligence with such an elementary question.!" Pointing to the physicist as he slowly rose from his seat. He said "that question is so elementary I am going to instruct my chauffer to answer it

One fine morning my University Mathematics Professor drove to the Campus on his Moped and parked it in the parking lot. Having finished his class for the day, he returned back to his house a kilometer away from the campus. Upon reaching his home, his wife said, honey could you bring me some vegetables for cooking. He said okay dear and immediately came out searching for his moped. He never realized all this time that he had walked all the way home and forgotten his moped at the college parking.

Luckily he had the keys with him!

i dont think they have less common sense, in fact being smart means showing a lot of common sense... maybe Drac your friend is intelligent, he excels in education, in his career but shows little common sense when it comes to daily and basic decisions in life :)

Yes, Drac, that's true. The reason probably is IQ and EQ.

"Absent minded" professors are common. They have brilliant IQ but when it comes to other day to day things - self awareness and awareness of others, etc. (more or less, the common sense you speak about), they are lacking, some embarrassingly so. They are brilliant and totally focused on whichever area they are brilliant in to the exclusion of everything else.

Super smart people need to realize this and work on their EQ to balance out. And because they are super smart, once they are aware, they can change for the better.

While it is arguably true that for them to come up with brilliant solutions to whatever problems they are faced with, they need isolation to be able to think clearly. But they should not carry that too far into every area of their lives, esp. their families. There must be cut off points to manage their lives better. What most of them do is get a partner who manages things for them, but still, they gotta get off their a**e and meet their partner halfway, at some point in time. Same thing for both men and women, only thing is women multitask better... but still...

truth be told, we all have far too much on our minds these days!

forgetting where I parked is very common for me, like especially since I go into the stores and look for my vehicle after several hours. I have tried many different things to help me with this situation, but now I just try to be more observant to my surroundings. It's not always easy, when I am in a rush, but really with so many things to do and only so muych time to do them in........one really needs humility while searching for their car parked somewhere outside of a mall to remember that the little things require NO SWEAT!!

Hey, if you see my car.....HELP!!!

Amy

Well that's true ..

smart ppl suffer from lack of common sense ..

That's bcuz their mind is thinking about something more important or more worthy to them ..

and there is only a hair between intelligence and madness ..

they tend to act as a geek .. abnormal or weired ..

cuz they see everything from a different point of view .. not the common one ..

they're just have a different way of thinking things out that in a "common sense" becomes a hard time thinking for their brain's focus are not in there, that's why they're geniuses, out of the context of being common... IMHO
