governments to action. Look at the photos that came from the Vietnam issue...after running many shocking photos on the front of Life magazine, finally something was done. Sometimes it forces governments to face what they have been doing and its not fun to see yourself in such a bad light.

its like the phone video of the girl getting stoned to death...no one helped her but many took photos and videos, some even took videos of people taking videos of it.. Makes you wonder about humankind, doesn't it?

For the past 60 years they have been acting dumb on the Palestinian issue. How long did they take to decide to enter Grenada, because it was developing an international airport? see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_military_history_events#1980-1990

Thank You! that was my point. pictures convey more potent messages that words ever can.

Whatever our perceptions or biases, we should ALL be ashamed and saddened at the destruction and loss of life taking place (on both sides) and we must ALL try and do what little we can to try and put an end to it..

A boy,ALI SHAITO pleaded with his mother MUNTAHA to stay conscious as she lay near death from shrapnel wounds in northern LEBANON after their van was struck by an Israeli missile.

MUNTAHA was wounded only.

And if need be there are multitude of pictures on innocent people murdered/tortured senseless in Iraq, Vietnam and even Hiroshima in Japan. (??)

Scarlett.. I dont seem to be able to understand your correlation between the Palestinan struggle and 9/11 with Pakistan (??). Yes, I agree that in both cases innocent victim is being killed senseless but I dont see Pakistan as a major world power who has a wider responsibility to so called "police" society in Vietnam (Vietnman War), Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Cold war with Russia, etc.. the list goes on. Israel wouldnt dare to lift a finger without US' support. But what do people care to what Pakistan has to say. They wield no power in this planet unfortunately. So I am abit taken back with such blinkered way of putting things in perpective.

The United States of America should stop selling weapons to such a vulgar State - as Isreal. They invaded Iraq because rumors were that the crazy Sadam had weapons of mass destruction. It doesn't make sense - give one and take another? Why - what do they benefit. If the US government does what is right, the World would be fine.

Put aside the poor Palestinians, and poor Lebanese that are being raped of their freedom as we discuss this - May Allah help them and give them patience and strength. But the Americans that are fighting a war that is built on lies just for the greed of wealth and money. They are being sent back home either in bags or handicapped from the mess that their government started. All based on a lie.

I feel for these families that have lost too much that they think their life is worthless and accept suicide bombings - and revenge.

Saying that The U.S didnt do anything to help palestinians after the attac like it would if just one israeli was killed, is not realy fair because, if an israeli would be killed by a palestinian then the whole israeli gov and peaple arround the worl will protest and do something but We as arabs and muslims didnt move an inch...mostly because our govs, so y would the u.s help them, if we (there brothers and sisters) dont realy care.

qatar is trying to make an urgent meeting for all the arab leaders but most of them gave excuses to not attend !!

dont expect any body to helps us if we dont even help our selfs.

I am glad that like me, you think the attacks should halt. I also hope that like me, you will write to your congressman / elected official and make your views known and ask them to voice your concerns to the decision makers.

seems when America voices an opinion or backs someone..people like kamranhassan can't get on here often enough to point the finger of blame.

Harry, what would you have America do? You say they are right to back Israel...so should we be sending troops? Is Britain?? I don't think so...we are getting targeted for already helping others out, even when they ask for help.

they haven't been silent...I was home just last week and they've been very vocal about this issue...not that I agree with either side, but I do think that the attacks should halt.

I beg to differ. The sad thing is that in this instance"America is silent" and it shouldn't be.

I am no supporter of Palestine. i agree that America has a right to support Israel. But to sit by and watch innocents get killed is deplorable and shameful.

By Scarlett• 2 Jan 2009 10:32

America isn't silent, we care and you have read many of the responses from Americans on this thread...but if you want to ask such things...we could have asked...where was Pakistan after 9/11? We could show you a multitude of pictures from that.

The unproportionate attack on innocent civilians is staggering and an act of cowardice by the aggressor. We need to realise that all forms of violence and agression is unacceptable on humanity grounds regardless of race and religion. Two wrongs dont make a right. Indiscrimate killings is a war crime and both parties should face the consequences in the international court. But unfortunately we all know and realise that while others are being dragged and indicted in Hague, not a single person since the start of the occupation have been made responsible for the massacre of innocent civilian.

Pictures and images are much more potent than words. They can change people's perceptions. Remember the famous picture of the Vietnamese girl who was burnyt by naplam? It had an affect on the people and in no small way helped end the war in Vietnam..

Thank you. Pictures like this, whilst "sickening" are neccessary to help remond us of the futility of these conflicts and the suffering that takes place on all sides.

They also help us to be more grateful and appreciative for what we have.

i lost my little girl too, and i watched her die. i couldn't hold her in my arms coz she had so many contraptions, breathing tube and all.

it is unspeakable pain. but i can say that death due to war is unimaginably worse. to watch your loved one die a violent death is the worst of all. at least, alhamdulilah, my little girl passed away peacefully.

God help us all.

Extremely sad times, a Very sad moment, a sad and lonely moment for the kid.

I could fit this kid pain easily, I lost my mom at the age of eight to a drunk driver.

I pray for this kid future and the many others like himself facing the same situation.
