Registering a Birth

Just in case anyone else is going through this or is about to.

If your baby is not born in the Hammad hospital, you have to go to the Woman's hospital at Hammad with the birth certificate request from the hospital where you has the birth, with the usual both passports copies, both RP copies, both ID copies if you have them, marriage certificate, where you can get a Hammad number in about 10 minutes (1 hour to park.

You then need to go across the road to the NHA department next door to the LuLu centre.

Take a number from the machine on the right as you go through the door, wait, wait some more and then get served.

They will ask you how many copies you want 20QR each, you then pay at the cashier around the corner, negotiate the security and go up to room 38 on the third floor, where they will write all over your request form and ask you to go back to where you first came from downstairs.

Hand over all the documentation again and they will tell you to come back in 1 week.

That's the condensed version, in real life because I knew nothing of all that it took me around 3 hours, about 1 hour with the correct information.

All I need to do now is pick it up and take it to the British Embassy to get ripped off with the cost of a new birth certificate and a passport,

Form for BE is on their website,

Good Luck

For baby born in Womens Hospital: When you enter the main door in Womens Hospital, turn right & immediate left, there is birth registration counter. Please fill the form and bring passport copies of you and your wife (front, back & rp page), marriage certificate, ID copies of both(to be on safe side not required, but the lady asked), the forms from hospital upon discharge. They will ask how many copies are required? Each copy is 20 QR. They will give you a receipt and it will be ready in 7 days.

you will be receiving one birth certificate and copies as you have mentioned while. I had asked for three, but actually only one is required. Photostat of the copy is also accepted for passport.

Me and my husband were sponsored by same employer, both Filipino, and we are legally married. Im presently 7 months preggy right now. Just want to ask if there's any difference in procedure of obtaining birth certificate of newly born baby from those parents were sponsored by company (husband and wife were sponsored by same employer)to husband or family sponsorship? or is there any problem on giving birth here in qatar if the wife not under the sponsor of her husband? anyone can help or advise me?

hey'l first issue a HMC number for your child on the spot and if all docs are in order, you need to pay using your card for the number of copies that you need.

If your delivery is in HMC, there is a counter at womens hospital main entrance itself, you need to go their and fill up a form and submit the medical card of your baby(its called as 'green card'), parents passport orginal and 1 copy each, orginal marriage certificate and 1 copy then 20 riyal for each copies(all your orginal documents will be returned back at the same time after verification). But you may need to wait in the queue for 2 hours minimum. bcoz the staff there is very slow. once your documents are submitted, they will tell you to come after one week. if you get the certificate within one week, you are lucky..!!

Fyi. make sure to fill up the form very carefully..bcoz whatever mistakes you are doing will come on the certificate too..

anyway goodluck..

Everything Chrisgn said still holds true. I just went through the process a few weeks ago. Hardest thing is finding a parking space at Hamad.

Two things to add:

The office does not accept cash--cards only.

Bring your original passports with you; they asked everyone for them when I was there.

if I am not mistaken, they moved the ministry of health from opposite Hamad hospital to the one behind it.. a new huge building..

It should not take time.. the mess is with the embassies and ministry of foreign affairs to get the stamps required for any documents issued from outside qatar..

These run arounds should be done as early as possible in the morning to avoid standing in queues..

Good luck

Hi all,

Now, you dont have to go through any of the hassles mentioned above. If you child is delievered in a hospital other than the Hamad, all you need to do is:

- take the birth notification request issued by the hospital in which the baby was delievered

- along with the ministry of health form, all duly filled up

- passport & ID copies of both parents plus the marriage certificate (carry original passports, just in case)

- Submit the the above to the Hamad Women's hospital (opposite Lulu) birth regirstration counter. They'l first issue a HMC number for your child on the spot and if all docs are in order, you need to pay using your card for the number of copies that you need. They'l then issue a receipt and ask you to collect the birth certificate from the same place in in two days!

All very simple, ain't it?

Cheers

Im on the Process of arranging this Birth Certificate, The procedure is much easier for those People sponsored by Husband or Family Sponsorship, the certificate will be released at the same building at NHA after 1 week.

Unlike, if you are sponsored by the company (I mean Wife and husband has different sponsorship)the procedure would be a bit harder because you have to claim the certificate in salwa road in Jail and Deportation building that would take two weeks to release the certificate.

furthermore, the baby should be register or obtain Visa within the month if not you have to report at the same building in Salwa Rd. at the follow up section. it's kind a long procedure..... extend your patience otherwise your will be patient in Hamad (lol)

Good luck to all .........

Arsan, thanks a lot for all the details. Its really helpful. Much appreciated. Just one quick question though; Do we need to go to HAMAD WOMANS hospital to get a HAMAD number before we go to the NHA in case if my baby is not born in HAMAD hospital.

Thanks and Best Regards.

I don't have any idea that the lady asked for Police Clearance because she didn't asked me for that. By the way after two weeks I had collected my baby certificate. It even easier (you don't have to take number), just go to the certificate collection counter (no. 3), give your receipt and baby name and voila! you get your certificate ready.

At zt_one90....congratulations...and good luck! :)

Thanx Arsan for the details, we managed to have the whole process done on Monday but there is one question. The lady asked us to get the Police Clearance Certificate. You got any idea about that. As per my knowledged, PC is required only for jobs or Character Certificate not for registering births.

New location of NHA is near Fire Brigade roundabout (former Asian Games Athlete Village complex), blue building opposite Defense Building.

When you go there, prepare the following paper:

- Copy passport + RP of husband & wife

- Copy birth paper from Hamad Hospital (see Jango Warrior post on the top if your baby is not born in Hamad Hospital)

- Copy of married certificate (in case they ask, in my case they didn't asked)

Once you get there, get a queue number & look for counter (I think) no. 4 (Registering birth for non-Qatari (English certificate)), fill out a form and submit to the same counter. Once the officer complete the form, you will be asked to go to cashier No. 31 (to the further left side) to pay for the certificate (QR 20 per certificate, you will be asked whether you need extra certificate).

Once you paid, go back to the same counter to give the receipt and you will be told to come back in two weeks to collect the certificate.

The whole process took less than 1 hour (of course it depend on how many people queuing because some people tends to cut the line)

Good luck!

ok... i went there this morning and guess what...

THEY MOVED THE ENTIRE OFFICE. i was amazed as there was no one in sight to ask where these idiots have moved to. just a note pasted to the glass door in arabic giving the area name. after waiting for about 45mins, a large crowd had gathered. finally abou an hour and half later SOMEONE got the exact location and all of us like worker bees followed him. the new offfice is nice though.

and yes it does take a week.

dont ask me the location... its somewhere behind the hamad accomodation.

By mister mister• 1 Aug 2009 21:57

does it really take a week?

i heard that is you deliver in hamad and then go accross to the health center they give it to you on the spot.

also do u know the maximum time frame for regestering a birth and then getting the passport and visa documentation completed?

thanks
