How hard is it to cross the road?

Sorry but I need to get this off my chest. I have to cross the road when I leave work near Hamad Hospital to get to the bus stop. Every single time I am met with abuse, men actually stopping their cars and on the odd occasions, had water bottles and litter thrown at me. At the bus stop men stop the car and just look at me.
What do they think I am going to do. I am a modestly dressed, middle aged woman, not some young blond teenager (although even then this behaviour would be inappropriate). I have been here 3 years, for the first 2 I just accepted that this is the way things are here, now I am SICK of it. I am tempted to tell them to go away but I don't want to cause trouble for myself. And by the way, I take the bus to Dukhan with all the construction workers and THEY are never less than respectful, polite and take trouble to give me a seat to myself. What do you think?

That’s one of the weakness in this society that they don’t have much for pedestrians

i agree with you alsboy.. they should provide an overbridge/overpass for the pedestrians especially in those busy areas..

Well... i guess u could write an article about this with Gulf Times, or even better, let them cover it for u.

Let me guess, u r wondering y? Simple, u cud mention abt the situation that you face everyday and the only solution for this would be a over bridge from Hamad Medical Emergency entrance to Lulu Center. If i am not wrong, there were accidents recorded already on this crossing and also people losing their life. This a public concern, but no one really takes time to think and write about it so that sum or the other action can b done.

lostindoha may be onto something. Just for fun wear an abaya one day and cross the road. Let us know if people are more respectful of you. This would be good to know.

I don't mind if they race past, but when they stop the car and click their fingers at me, that makes me mad. i am just minding my own business, trying to get from a to b, not parading myself. Honest!

the bad thing here is, chickens can't fly :( That is the only way here to cross the road even if you would be polite enough to stop your car to let someone pass, the crazy ones behind you would never stop ... they did not even hear of the right of the pedestrians to cross the road.

It's just a closed circuit where everyone is racing and therefore no one should interrupt them.

Now come on jj, we all know you're just fishing for compliments here. Go on then, I'll humour you - you're a good looking lass, of course they're going to stop and stare at you!
