Moving to Qatar next month
I am moving to Qatar next month to work on the New Doha Port project. Will probably be based in Doha for a while.
I have an accomodation allowance of about 12500 QR/month. Could someone please advise what is the best area to live in for that money? I heard that good areas now cost more 18000 QR/month plus? Is that correct?

Hi there...you've a handsome home allowance. I suggest you get yourself a place in a villa somewhere around Dafna, Madinat Khalifa, Westbay, Matar Qadeem or Al Hilal. These areas are pretty good with cool amenities and are also less conjested. You can also get a 2/3BHK apartment in the city area if you prefer to be around market places.
You can view the classifieds online with the two local newspapers. Peninsular and Gulf Times. There are so many thieves in the real estate renting industry so be careful. Rent only through reputable agencies or direct with the landlord. Compounds are a better option if you have children. Furnished apartment is better if you have no dependents, Although the country is awash with money, there are some very poor expats living in pretty hash conditions. You can find cheap accommodation but it will be rough and poorly maintained. Your housing allowance is fairly low, try to get the company to supply the housing instead. It makes life a lot easier, however, if you are here for the money, take the allowance and stay in a small back street area. There are some unfurnished 2 bedroom apartments for about R8000. If your contract is for a fixed term, also remember that rentals can jump dramatically. Although there are laws governing the increases, landlords quite often use devious means and legal loopholes to force increases.

Welcome to Qatar. U can get 3BHK house around 8to 10K QAR .WEST BAY & Old Airport Road are good area.
Better u can stay any hotel temp for while & u can find good flat or small villa within 1Ok.
