Are you preparing for Grangao this year?

Hi Guys,

For those new to Grangao (grun-ga-oh), this is celebrated on the 14th Ramadan, generally chideren adorned in their traditional clothes go around their neighbourhood door knocking for candies / sweets while singing Grangao songs.

This lasts late till night, and over the years its also been accepted by the widely resident expat community, so if you have hear a door bell ringing on the night of the 14th Septemeber, please be expected to dish out a generous amount of goodies.

I think it was last year or the previous year where the residents of Al-Khor community organised it well.

my daughter has received a bag full of the most dangerous nuts and collection of choke like sweets I've ever seen! I've had to take the bloody thing away!

we've also had few door knocks..and we have small bags of nuts / sweets ready...come and get them kids.

But I'm somewhat worried of kids being on road with cars zooming by, hoping for an incidence free Ga-ran-ga-oh (the pronounciation should please someone)

If I so desperately wanted grangao, I would hide in the corner or in the ush, till some poor kid got their deserved share of the goodies and then when they were least expecting, I would pounce on their new found edible wealth.

I was thinking rather sweets, lets give the kiddies fruit and vegetable...that ought to bring out the creative spirit in them, and giving the vege's back to their khadama for the dinner ingredients.

It does defeat the purpose...but a funny thought.
