Handcuffed for overdue library books

Way to go America.. We need harsher tactics in the UK also..

A US woman has been arrested and handcuffed for failing to pay fines for two overdue library books.

Heidi Dalibor, of Grafton, Wisconsin, is the first to admit that she ignored calls and letters from her local library.

She also admits that she ignored a notice to appear in municipal court or pay the fine, reports the News Graphic.

But the last thing she expected was a knock on her door by Grafton police.

"They showed me a warrant they had for my arrest," said Miss Dalibor, 20. "They said they had to cuff me and I said, 'Are you serious?'"

She said all she could think about was that her neighbours would not know why she was being led away from her home in handcuffs.

Once at the police station, she was fingerprinted and photographed, and the marks and scars on her body recorded.

Police Captain Joe Gabrish says officers follow the same procedure with every warrant.

Library director John Hanson says a couple of dozen people are cited each year for failure to return materials or pay fines.

The incident cost Dalibor about £15 for the two overdue paperbacks - and it cost her mother £85 bail money to free her.

I want a 600,000 word essay from you, as penitence for not returning that book since 1963.

Single space for every sentence.

Double Space for the paragraph.

The subject will be: The fear of losing what's left of my credibility!

I hear St. Patrick was an Englishman!"

Go off and recite "I shall not steal" two hundred times and also a hundred Hail Mary's.

I wonder why. I had so many things that were borrowed (including money) but they never got it returned to me.

for fear of losing what's left of my credibility!

Actually, I have a very nice, original copy of Silas Marner at home which still has the my old school's Library Log Sheet inside the cover.

I considered auctioning it on e-bay but lost my nerve in case any of the nuns saw it and caught up with me. I think it was due to be returned sometime in the Spring of 1963.

If you look at FB you will see that those 5000 unflattering pictures of me looking old, dead, fragile, drunk and lecherous were all put on there by other people (you listening Novi?) and they were all doctored using Photoshop. I was never even at those events! I was at home doing needlework and solving Sudoku problems instead.

I am a venerable upstanding pillar of the community. Really. I am. Its true! Its not even a little bit untrue. Its a fact.

Its a serious offence and you guys are discussing it like it was something trivial.

Hung drawn and quartered would be a suitable punushment, or deport them to Australia!

I got arrested for being drunk and disorderly when I was in college. Allegedly, I also gave a lot of verbal to the cops. They slung me in the drunk tank and called my father who told them to leave me there until I apologized. I then had to spend the rest of the summer working my butt off for atonement. I did get in peak physical condition though.

When I was 17, I got arrested for fighting in the streets, my father bail me out, since I was a minor.

I would rather be in jail at that time, because my father attitude for one month, was worst, than a piss off judge in court giving out the sentence.

It was very embarassing. I had just gone to Miami to pick up an English friend from the airport. It was her first visit to America. We were driving up US1 just north of Vero Beach when I got pulled over by s Sherrif's cruiser for speeding.

The cops ran a license check and found I had two unpaid tickets from years earlier. The cops handcuffed me, shoved me in the back of the cruiser and took me to jail. My friend, who had never driven in America before had to follow to the jail where she used all of her travellers checks to bail me out. I was in jail for just over an hour. Long enough to be photographed holding the sign board with the prisoner number. Kind of embarrassing to say the least.

I am also guilty of this crime of not returning library books. I will contact the US embassy and turn myself in. I just hope someone will post bail for me at my arraignment.

That is nothing new, it is clearly stated in black and white, when you fill out your application for the library card in my state. i did end up paying 150.00 USD for my daughters late fees in 2000. She was grounded for a whole two weeks by her Mom.

I was speechless with her mothers action.
