A British tourist has been sentenced to six months in a Dubai jail after being caught taking pictures up women's skirts in a shopping mall.

The man, a 28-year-old electrician from north London named only as L. R, admitted taking the pictures at the Carrefour supermarket in the Mall of the Emirates, using a mobile phone camera which he placed in a shopping basket.

He was apprehended by security guards after female shoppers complained they were being stalked.

He told Dubai's Court of First Instance that he had only taken one picture for a "laugh", sources said.

But the court was shown two pictures of women stored on the defendant's mobile phone, according to local reports.

The judge ordered the man to serve six months in prison.

He had been visiting friends who lived in the country and is thought to have been planning to find a job there.

Instead, he is likely to be deported back to the UK once he has completed his sentence.

The result is believed to reflect the tough stance authorities in the Muslim emirate are taking on antisocial behaviour.

It follows the arrest in July of Michelle Palmer, a 36-year-old British woman, and Vince Acors, 34, a tourist visiting the country, for allegedly having sex on a public beach after a boozy day out.

The couple have denied having sex, but face up to six years in prison if they are convicted of indecent behaviour and having unmarried sex in a hearing next month.

It seems the authorities took the easy way out..

The two Britons convicted of having sex on a beach in Dubai have escaped jail but have been ordered to leave the country immediately.

if a gang of hooligans is in a corner of a street and they r looking to tease a woman,2 women r passing one dressed modestly and covered, the other wearing mini skirts..which one they will tease and be after?obviously the girls wearing miniskirts will BE THE CENTER OF ATTRACTION FOR THEM....they will strive to get this beauty in ever way possible, eaither with money or force cuz they r tempted with her prettiness!

I always thought clothes were invented to hide a womens private parts??? Why would they need to do that again?

Still fair enough gypsy has a point! It shouldn't matter what a girl wears no one has a right to do such things. And the fact that it happens to covered muslim girls all the time is proof that hijab is not the only rule that solves the problem.

Having said that I truly believe that hijab does help men to not get turned on by women. As long as other rules are followed such as earlier marriages. I will definately try to get my son married early so he doesn't have to put up with raging hormones, teach him to respect women, and not let him rampage the streets with his friends.

Lets just face it girls.. Men have no control over themselves and need to be controlled!

y should women wear dress of armour?most of cases in this world rapes happen when a man is tempted..by the way i dint talk of cheap diamond jewellery...i meant like the kohinoor diamond just been kept on the ground unattended for a sec!...will anybody be such a fool?will someone be so stupid to just keep his money on footpath while he says i will come and fetch it later?...if u even wear ur jewellery to show its prettiness wear it with care dont just leave it for even a min!by the way someonenew ur great legs r for the husband, not the whole world or u know the results and consequences of it having childrens b4 marriages..men r created by god to attract women ..and thats the reason in usa every min thers a rape case,OR THE men would have been strong all the danger starts from eyes, leads to heart and the heart being the king of body commands for such criminal activity!,so keep ur wealth safe and urself too! IN THESE WORLD THERE are THREE THINGS WHICH WILL GET SPOILT OR STOLEN IF LEFT OPEN....1)FOOD2)WEALTH(MONEY OR DIAMOND WHATEVER U SAY)3)WOMEN

Actually in Saudia there is a restriction more than any other country. Well i dont say that it should not be there but it creates more suspense in the minds of young men.

I dont agree with harsha as well that such pictures are used for laughter, the person doing such a thing can step ahead his buiseness as well.

The diamond that glitters if diplayed in the public carelessly can be unsafe as well. It has to be displayed in public with some care.

Well still cant think how that man with abaya accomplished the two impossible tasks. One looking through it itself :-) and other looking from the under the door space?.

If women doesn't wear a bit proper, men will go peeping...

Now to add the Saudi man case, it's a bit related.

So how did Islam got into this thread?

And why would I ever wanna peep a girl or a woman wearing abayas? Surely this guy didn't peep for them but maybe for the women who wears 'revealing' clothes roaming around the all-democratic free UAE.

No wearing the short skirts is also not good in the open public and it is an invitation to others to have a look at you by making yourself more prominent.

Yes i am saying that it is bad to have such pcitures, but it is also not recommended that you invite others by wearing vulgar dress to become promient among among men.

Some men are good and some are not. You have to face it, you cannot control every one. Then dont complain as well if you intentionally inviting something and answer the man yourself in the same vulgar tone youself.

There's a good foot between the floor and the doors. And most women when they go to the bathrooms take off their niqab or hijab or whatever to adjust, so a man in there is seeing all this. It is all about the jesture in public.

The guy who was wearing niqab and then doing this was strange. It is so diffcult to see anything in that.

Let me give you the example now that is probably more conservative thought.

When i arrived at Doha airport i collected my luggage (very heavy) in front of machine (X-ray machine), my trollery in that prcedure stuck i bit to leg of the chair of a airport security woman sitting in front of it with no visible duty. I said sorry but the man standing near her said to me many times "oh dont you see".

Then i was finding a guy with my company boad standing in the airport and was pushing slowly the luggage trolley, the person in front of me in a traditional arabic dress stopped and told me that dont you hit that trolley to "them". I saw "them" two ladies too much covered in black traditional dress, fully covered face standing still seeing opposite and listening as well. I told him dont worry i will not hit them they are in view, he said no you are looking here and there.

I felt very bad.

I hate it when the reports say this sort of thing. It implies that he's unlucky he got caught doing it in a conservative country and the poor thing will be made an example of. They said the same in the reports about the sex on the beach incident. It's not a tough stance, it's just the country enforcing it's laws and values.

Adnan my friend was a cop in Canada and in two cases he had caught a guy who'd put a camera in a woman's toilet and another in a woman's dressing room, so are you suggesting that woman shouldn't undress when they go to the toilet or try on clothes?

Also I met a reporter from Dubai who'd caught a guy wearing niqab in the women's loo and looking under the stalls. Should women not take of their "modest" clothing in bathrooms either?

Well Lisa i lived my parent for 3 years in Saudi Arabia in Riyadh ,the ladies also used to wear abaya but kept their face uncovered. I never heard some one calling them like this.

For sure if you say that dress does not make any difference in inviting some evil men then you are wrong. Every psycologist will tell you the same thing.

Proper and decent dress means that there should not be the open invitation to others to look at you. Decent and proper means that .......:-).

By anonymous• 22 Aug 2008 20:13

Lisa...because you can't wear what you want in these countries and thats because most people have a modicum of decency and respect for the culture they are living in.......thats why!

By Lisa1004• 22 Aug 2008 20:02
Lisa1004

What is your "idea" of decent? I lived in Saudi Arabia for 7 years. I did not cover my head but did wear an abaya. I (along with other expat women) were routinely called whores, tramps, etc. I was offered money on more then one occasion to "go for a ride" with Saudi men....even though at one point I was very visibly pregnant for my youngest child. So why don't you tell me what is "proper"? If I want to walk outside (places that allow it) in a pair of shorts and a tank top or such why can't I? If a young woman wants to dress fashionably in a short skirt why can't she?

I think a better idea would be if perverts learn to control themselves.

Actually Alexa, that is what is happening here in the states. Not in supermarkets but in other places - no more fast food restaurants in South Los Angeles will be allowed. No more sodas (unless they are sugar free) in school vending machines. I guess I had better get out of this thread - the blood pressure is going up with every word that I type!!! Have a good one....

I think that it a lack of his knowledge as some people in liberal societies do such a thing but they dont know that doing such at other places can put them in a lot of trouble.

It used to happen many times in the unviersity campus when i was abroad specially in the book stores. The thing is that firsly women should also dress up properly and other thing is that if some man is caught doing such a thing then there should be a severe punishment so that others dont try this thing again.

This person must be habitual and he must not had been told notto do the same atleast in Dubai or in the middle east.

No, I'm too clever for that.. I use other methods, as demonstrated by the following::

Giorgio is in this country for about 6 months, he walks to work every day and passes a shoe store. Each day he stops and looks in the window and admires a certain pair of Bocceli leather shoes. After about 2 months he saves the $300.00 the shoes cost and purchases them.

Each Friday night the Italian community gets together at a dance at the church basement, so Giorgio seizes the opportunity to wear his new Bocceli leather shoes to the dance.

He asks Sophia to dance and as they dance he asks her, "Sophia, do you wear red panties tonight?" Sophia, startled, says " Yes, Giorgio, I do wear red panties tonight, but how do you know?" Giorgio replies,"I see the reflection in my new $300.00 Bocceli leather shoes, How do you like them?

Next he asks Rosa to dance, after a few minutes he says to her "Rosa,do you wear white panties tonight?" Rosa answers, " Yes, Giorgio, I do, but how do you know that. He answers "I see the reflection in my new $300.00 Bocceli leather shoes.

How do you like them?"

Now the evening is almost over and the last song is being played. Giorgio asks Carmella to dance. Mid way through the dance his face turns red. He says "Carmella, stilla my heart, please, please tell me you wear no panties tonight, please, please, tella me this true, " Carmella answers, "Yes,

Yes Giorgio, I wear no panties tonight. " Giorgio gasps and says "Thanka God... I thought I had a CRACK in my $300.00 Bocceli leather shoes.

How do you like them?????
