The OLD Days .....

Sigh..the old Doha......;)...1987 - 2000
- Rents were much lesser
- 10,000 riyal monthly salary meant you were upper middle class
- There were only two kinds of people, one who spoke malayalam(Keralites) and the other group who were trying to learn malayalam. This included everyone from Egyptians to Pathans
- The airport would be crowded whenever there was a PIA flight or an Air India flight.
- People used to go to Dubai for Eid holidays for buying electronics ...
- Everyone had the Dubai complex...how Dubai was blah...my cousin in Dubai has blah ...saw this celebrity ...blah blah blah ...
-It was considered hep/cool to read Khaleej Times...lol
-Once you made it into QGPC, ur life was pretty much it, there was no QF, QG, RasGas or Aspetar...
- There were big oranges in Corniche which gave refreshments
- Watching the cannon every evening in Ramadan was fun
- Ramadan Quiz by Nick Kelly had Doha on its sofa sets every evening during the holy month
- There were qatari kids with bicycles having super duper tall antennae and fur seats roaming around the streets
- Everything in Doha looked and felt soo "Saudi" ...lol
Please feel free to add..
Have a great day

And I remember those days when our landlord decreased himself monthly rent by 25% for our beautiful apartment of D/D + 2 bedroom +2 specious balconies :)

Our ‘natoor’ used to visit us with a bulk of Electric bulbs for checking if any point needs to get changed...

Yeah those days when Lady Diana visited here and there were rumors...Corniche would be sealed...but nothing happened like that :)

What about beaches without buggies, a time when you knew whom your neighbours were, when a traffic jam was 2 rows of cars at a roundabout. A time when you could run on the corniche without having to dodge a whole bunch of people, go to the parks and let the kids play (or play like a kid).

When the weekend was a time to spend with friends (and not at a shopping mall); When a shopping mall was a trip to Mumtaza Co-op to buy groceries.

You forgot the QP HO.

The giant oranges that were scattered around Doha were franschised to a Qatari from QGPC (Offshore). He reckoned he could get 110% of the juice out of an orange.

Anybody remember the Friday Quiz on QBS? Boy they had some great team names!
