Pocket hard drive

I was down at Sofitel last night looking for a pocket hard drive - NON-POWERED type 2.5" 500GB size but none of the shops there have them. I don't want a desk top one, as (a) it won't fit in my pocket and (b) they require external power - not available in my car!

Anyone seen one available anywhere?

Guys, thanks for your input so far.

I have 250gb and 350gb 3.5" external drives, but currently have 300gb of music. My plan is to listen to 1 disk of music where ever I am - office, car, home, so 2 disks is not an option. I already have the music backed up on DVD so no worries there.

BTW, if anyone wants a 3.5 external as above they will be for sale soon. might even leave the music on there ;O)

to be honest buddy 500GB have only just became main stream, pretty new, so wont be here just yet :(

but like everyone says, these hard disks arent really good for pocket hard drives, due to the vibrations, they tend to become corrupt and damaged fairly easily so just make sure if u are putting important stuff onit, u have some sort of backup plan in store

so if u get a 500GB then u should try get a 500GB 3.5 drive, and if possible 2 x 500 GB 3.5 inch drives, that offers complete redundancy , to almost RAID spec.

Frankly speaking I would not preffer keeping 1 such huge external hardisk, rather preffer to keep 2 of 250gb. Such that even if have to drop one or damage one, you have something as backup or your whole backup it not lost. Either way, its your choice. I remember seeing couple of models at CarrerFore yesterday, but the biggest capacity was 320GB from WesternDigital.

Perhaps, they were out of stock. I am a regular visitor to Sofitel. I have seen 500GB pocket hard drive, in most of the shops. As other friends told, it is also available in Lulu and Carrefour. All the best.

Qatman - I asked around last night and they didn't have the laptop drives in 500gb either :o(

The are available on the web from $250, and have been since February, but I don't trust something so fragile to the postal services!

As usual, the middle east lags behind in new technology.

It is available at many places in Qatar as mentioned in some of the answers. You could also buy a disk for laptop which is quite small and buy a casing for it with USB output and you have a Small portable hard disk.
