When i was coming back in to Qatar from canada, i brought my proffesional poker set me with me..1000 piece ceramic 16gram chips...they took it from me at the airport.!

I heard of people getting together on weekends to play, not gambling just playing.

Just a word of caution. Gambling is illegal in Qatar. Not that private poker games don't occur but I would be hesitant about promoting it or even discussing it in a public forum. When I first arrived here about a year ago there was a blip in the local paper about a group of guys who were arrested for gambling. If memory serves me right, they work caught in one of the worker camps playng cards and "gambling" with personal items not money. I'm just passing this on in hopes that you will exercise caution about who you invite and how you initiate your game. I have said it before, from a Western perspective, the punishment in Qatar does not always suit the crime.

My daughter just told me about her friend who just returned with her family to Doha from Canada, where they had purchased a poker set. Divided the set into 2 different suitcases.

When they arrived at Doha airport, one of the half-sets was confiscated, but the other wasn't.

So now they have half of a poker set!

That is SOOO Qatar! :-D
