Holiday in the U.K.
Hello to all QLers,
Could anybody from the U.K. or that has lived in the/has been to the U.K. give a rough estimate of the cost of living in London?I will be staying with my relatives in London city so i won't need to pay for accomodation.I'm not a shopaholic nor am i clubaholic. All i want to know is how much dough roughly would i need for a little entertainment/shopping, bus/taxi fares etc for a 4-week stay?
Also, what small business do you guys think one can do to cover expenses? What i mean is,is there any thing(10-20 pieces of an item) one can buy from China or Qatar that will make a good sell in the U.K.?
All inputs/suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Thanking you guys in anticipation of your contributions.
shiningstar ... i still have our 2 oyster card with us. If you want you can have them. Although i am not too sure that you can refill them but it is worth to ask on the tube station.
Problem is .... how can i pass it on to you?
PS : If you brought those stuffs to the UK, do make sure checking up with the local laws.
Thanks everybody.Novita 77,little entertainment means going to cinema once or twice a week, visiting few scenic spots etc.
Regarding few things to take to cover expenses,i think few pieces of jade bracelets and rings(from China) and any Chinese/Qatar souvenirs will worth a few pounds in the UK.What do u think?
are bland!
Better off going to chinatown or a side street cafe/restaurant for decent affordable food.
A bank loan or a new credit card (!) would help!
I advise buying sandwiches and snacks at Tesco and carrying them with you instead of eating in little cafes - if you do pop in somewhere when you feel hungry, you'll be amazed at how much you spend.
Definately get yourself an Oyster card for travel on tube, bus and some train. There are 1/2 price entry deals on some attractions in London if you have an oyster card. Maybe it will save you some money?
Look around for the free outdoor events too.....music, theatre etc.

shining star , can you clarify what do you mean by little entertainment?
Never get a taxi in London, or you will be broke in no time. Get the Oyster Card in one of the tube station. You can top up the card. I am not sure how much it would cost for 1 mths oyster card, we bought ours 1 weeks unlimited travel cost 24 pound something. With that card you can travel unlimited on bus and tube within zone 1.
Do try to make a visit to London Science Museum ... it is worth it and free. Another next door call Discovery Museum or something like that also free.
Be careful to bring stuffs from China especially the fake copy, it is against the law in the UK, they might close eyes if it is for personal used, but if you bring on the big number for sale could land you in trouble in the custom.
Few barrels of Crude oil or LNG can give you good profit to cover all your expense..lol jus kidding..
accommodation and food are the major expense ..as you are staying with your relatives that’s covered. Need to spend only for sightseeing and tube/bus tickets. You can get discounted all day ticket. Tickets for entertainments and sightseeing is bit expensive compared to other cities. a boat trip in Thames and a bus ride in the city is all worth the money...and of course wax museum is a must see. If you are interested in nature...visit country side its so green and peaceful
