Hello all,

Is it possible to get higher down/upload speeds for the Internet.

At the moment i have only 2Mb download (400QR).

Compare to my home this is really pathetic
I got cable internet at home 16Mb download/ 2.5 Mb upload and that for only € 30 (175QR)

Please advice

Jeroen

Roycef1.. I hope its the right username.

Well its not strange... if you look at the charges then the ADSL is unlimited usage but as for as Mobile Broadband Internet is concerned then you can use the specific amount of data (1,3 or 5 G) after that you are charged 1 Qrs on every Mb usage. So some how people end up paying more than the normal ADSL connection and the 7 MB is the ideal speed you dont get it all over the coverage. Besides if you are connected on a 2G or 3G coverage zone the speed differs as well. With 2G its slower than 3G.

its is quiet strange when you look deep into Qtel products

2 MBps for 400/month

Take the mobile internet USB moderm

It connects at 7 MBps, however the tariff system is

different to the adsl one

1giga = 100, per month

2giga = 200 and

3giga = 300

from post lauch there were many complaints and issues

But at the end of the day its the fastest speed offered

Nope currently you can get the maximun speed of 2MB for ADSL connection and yes Vodaphone wont be offering Internet services so soon. If you experience faster speed in other places like the internet cafe's and Intercon its just because they are subscribed to MPLS or Lease lines. They are dedicated lines and the speed of internet is much more faster than the regular ADSL.

The whole shebang is run by one supplier Q-Tel so what you see is what you get, however, my experience says that in some areas the wireless is faster than others, take you laptop to an internet cafe and then to one of the hotels (I use the Intercontinental lounge), there it is quite fast by comparison and see the speed diff.

Good Luck, just remember you are in the Middle East, I had to get told that 3 times a day before it sunk in.

That's the max available; http://www.qtel.com.qa/ProductServicesLinks.do?prodtype=1&prodId=370

As far as I'm aware there's no news of anything faster coming. I think Vodafone will only be offering mobile phone services, so no hope of them providing better ADSL.

So far that's the maximum you can get from Qtel...Hope the new Telecom company -Vodafone- will break this odd monopoly.
