My best guess is Doha'll be the next Dubai

The development of large infrastructures, the improvement of cultural diversity, the social upheaval with different sense of liberation, the proposal for a democratic country, the openness for freedom to give correspondence to expatriates and foreigners...

...give ourselves 10 years and the conversion of Qatar from an Islamic country to a democratic one and this city'll probably be the new Dubai.

Qatar is much smaller than Dubai it does not have the flat area to become like to Dubai. Let's hope that this will never happen.

I agree, the only thing good about Dubai is locking myself in my hotel room after a running around to meetings. Can't stand Dubai.

Obviously like most oil economies, Qatar needs to diversify it's economy and not rely solely on petro dollars or, it will leave no legacy for it's childrens children.

Tourism has shown to work in Dubai, so it's obvious that Qatar will copy this to some extent.

Apart from a quick holiday, I dislike Dubai.

I was recently at the world trade centre with my CEO and he was the only Arab we saw.

I hope that the Pearl and Lusail, become the only part of Doha that is like Dubai and Doha retains it's charm and reclaims some quiet

Why the need to compare and want it to be the next Dubai. Qatar is a seperate country and will always have its own individuality....Wouldnt it be boring if all countries where the same...

It could be the next Dubai in terms of development, but it won't be in terms of losing it's cultural identity thats for sure.

That may well be the western medias viewpoint. It's just I have a different viewpoint. We are not striving to be a clone of anything. We are developing in the way we choose to.

Tranquility is something of yesterday when I remember a time before traffic jams ;)

It's the abuse of a large population of 'foreigners' to the democratic laws who clogged and diminished the once-and-simple prosperity of Dubai.

The impresssion being given in the western media is that Qatar is going to be a Dubai clone..

Development of expat residences, high rises, Financial District, Palms etc..

Hope Qatar retains its charm and tranquility!

Doha will continue to evolve as Doha, unique in it's own way. We are not trying to be anything else.

Dubai has lost its soul in the search for money and glitz. I really hope that Doha doesn't go the same way.
