what is life like in Al Khor Community?

I'm very interested to know what life is like in Al Khor Community for a family of six, if anyone can reply. What are the villas like? Do you get much privacy? Is there space for the kids to play? Are there any playgrounds? Can you walk everywhere or do you really need transport? I'm very interested in detailled impressions--I know it's quiet with not much to do compared to Doha, but that suits us fine.

Also, anyone teaching at the school there? I'd love to know your impressions from the staff's point of view.

It's best to live here, especially for Qatar Energy staff and their families.

if u like living in the compound for more facilities, there are many in Doha as well which swimming pool, tennis court and gym are available. well just quite costly. QR20000+ monthly. I guess in Al Khor is not that much.

try to get more pro and cons before u decide to come. from where u r right now, i think it's already good enough.

Like anywhere else, there are +'s and -'s to Al Khor.

Al Khor, like other posters said, is pleasant with its trees, plants and grass. It is quite spacious and you can take a walk without getting run over. There are spaces for the kids to play. The housing is nice there. The facilities are nice.

On the other hand, the schools in Doha may be better for your children. The population of Al Khor is predominantly Indian, I believe. Does that matter to you? The small Qatari town of Al Khor near the Al Khor community has little to offer in the way of shopping or entertainment. Trips to Doha are required.

Al Khor community is close to Ras Laffan, which makes commuting easier for the working member of the family. The commute from Doha to Al Khor, on the other hand, is one hour each way.

I think it depends on the school for the kids where you should consider living. If they are going to go to school in Doha, then living in AL Khor would be inconvenient.

Thanks for your comment. Certainly sounds nice. A church? I never expected that. Any other Christian churches besides Catholic? Might need to check other forums for that one.

living in al khor community is nice, they got everything there, from school, restos, church, its a cool and very safe place, we often go there for weekly mass, but i dont know now. it is very suitable for family. but if ur a bachelor living outside al khor community, renting a villa, i dont advice it.

We don't have to be in Al Khor and could find any school in Doha I suppose, but we're not big city people, and really like the idea of the community there. Are you saying that there are communities/areas a bit like that within Doha itself? In other words, if you're living and working in one area of Doha, is there much need to have to go elsewhere? And is it as safe? Just wondering.

Bin Omran is just one of the living area in Doha. I wonder why u have to live in Al Khor. Do u have to teach inside the community? if so, it's good.

I visited Al Khor 2,3 weeks before. A lot of bachelors live there. There is a supermarket (or maybe 3), I did not find it, so can't give u advice on it, well, someone told me that u can find most of the things there, well still need go to Doha for shopping from time to time.

It's 40 minutes drive without traffic from Doha.

I have the thought of living there only bcoz it's closer to the work place of my hubby.

That visit to Al Khor stopped the idea as i feel a bit uncomfortable of those bachelors. They whistled even when I was walking with my hubby. But someone told me in the Al Khor compound it's quite safe and comfortable.

Al Khor is beautiful, peaceful and I hope u can get here soon to explore more fun by urself.

I would be here for u.

Lol I'm in New Zealand. I usually get on-line when my 3 preschoolers are in bed in the afternoon. We're considering a major life-change--moving to and teaching in Qatar. It appeals so much more than UAE and Bahrain etc. Trying to get as much info as we can before making decisions, but will keep an eye out for job postings. Really want to get into the Al Khor Community School though.

What's it like in Bin Omran?

right now we settled in Bin Omran. My husband works in Ras Laffan. That's why I always seek the information abt Al Khor - closer to the work place.

Any type of accomodation is acceptable for me, as we don't have any children yet. but i guess we'd better live here for sometime.

Don't u sleep in the morning? u post so early...wow. I can't get up before 9.

It does sound good doesn't it? I guess that's why I'm probing--trying to find out if there's anything amiss. We love the sound of the community and it's peacefulness and we're sort of targeting it as a place we'd like to live, which means trying to get a job at the school there. That may never end up happening, but you never know...

Good luck with your move (from where?). I'd be very interested to hear how you get on when you settle in. Do you have a family and will you be in an apartment or villa?

is a very quiet and safe community. been there 5 times to go swimming in the club's pool. it's an exclusive community and if ur an outsider u can only go inside if sponsored by a community member... SPEED LIMIT is 25kph... u go beyond the speed limit and ull be fined, the member who sponsored u will be fined with points too... the club we went for swimming have nice resto and bakeshop and have wifi near the pool too...

this the only thing i can say as im not a resident there...
