Moving to Doha...any advise?
Hi guys! I was wondering if any of you can help me. The company where I worked for has offer for me and my girlfriend a job in Doha but I am a little bit concern about a few things:
1.- Do we need to get married if we want to live together?
2.- On top of our salary, they offer us a living allowance of 7.500QR, is this enough for a 1 bedroom apartment or studio?
3.- How is the live in doha for a woman?
I am looking forward for your answer.
Thank you very much for all the information you can give me

[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
go and fight1 i'll put my bet to you!
nice meeting you Aussie chile cat
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
I'm 100% made in Australia, Hubby is from Chile but moved to Australia 36 years ago, before I was born so that makes him more Australian than me but still has strong family ties in Chile as they tend to do.
Blondie are you from chile or oz :? confusing me you multi cocktail nationality holder
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
the reason I would sit on a plane that long is I can do what ever I want in chile, as for afganistan i think i would be worse of than here.
IvanMar, trust the cats on this one ;)
I think its important that people know the truth when they are looking to come here. While I don't regret making the decision to come I didn't really relise how much of myself i would loose. Where i am from I can be a certain way act a certain way and think nothing of it and nobody else does for that matter. Here I have had to restrain myself almost be somebody else less I get thrown in jail and deported. This is why i suggest to Ivanmar and anyone else if they money is not being offered seriously think about it.
dont worry :D
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
DaRuDe, chill, I know you were only joking :)
if you are going to brasil then you can fly to spain and catch Varig (I think it is ) or Lan Chile as well.
For the record, I do like Doha and I do not think you need to earn QR40k a month plus everything else.
I just think people need to be realistic so new comers know what to expect.
I've never flown from here only Australia, but I am trying to orginise to go via there on the way to or from Aus for our next holiday so will have to get back to you on that one. But i think we have to fly to Madrid QA and Lan Chile from there.
i know she know i am teasing her and she know your question is serious and i know that you are resident of that side South America. forgive my silliness
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
DaRuDe... :P
It was actually a serious question. Trying to figure out the cheapest way to go to Brazil, maybe via Chile wouldn't be a bad option.
Does these airlines provide 5 star meals :)
Donkey airlines or camel probably lol
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
Mis-Cat, how do you go to Chile? I mean, which airline do you use?
Just can not imagine how high the cost of living is if Macaroni Grill is not a posh restaurant
well its free there and its near here damn chile so far who will wait till that long
qs honey am fine how are you doing :D
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
hi honey! how are you?????
when I can go visit my hubby's family in Chile? After all it's better there and cheap.
DeepMidoff, not everyone is willing to eat porathas every day. And if you read my post, I mentioned both extremes. Oh, by the way, Macaroni Grill is not a posh restaurant. I should have actually mentioned a 5 star hotel restaurant, but i couldn't remember how much the prices were there.
so when we going to afghanistan for the nose sniffing thing
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
Try Enzan compound when you are here :) or you can ask mis-cat & Qatarisun for their valuable advice :)
Ivan, no creo QR9000 son suficientes para vivir bien y guardar.
so eating in 5 star restaurants is the path for high brain power :)
hi I will be in qatar in august and wil need a 1 Bedroom apartment. Can u please suggest some good places in the range of 7000 QAR?I seems that you got a good bargain for youself.
Thanks in advance
Thank you Mis-Cat, I really appreciate your honesty. It´s great, I prefer to ear the truth before taking the decision. But you know how it´s, I just feel it´s time to move and do something new. Now both of us have this opportunity and we were thinking to try for a year, then we can always come back to Spain. But of course if I put everything on the table...I must say it doesn´t look as a very good deal though
Bakamuna - I think the average Salary is around QR 40,000 + Car + school fees + luxury living is the standard for certain QLer's here:(
We are so unlucky :(
mental ability.. obviously...
Ivan - QR 3000-4000 is enough for a simple guy like me with my wife althoguh I am deprived of 5 star restaurant meals everyday :)
Sorry for the hijack before, but getting back to your question, coming here for the experiance alone FORGET IT! sorry to put it so bluntly but if you are not getting paid any better than in spain don't do it. Considering were you are from and were you are living now the freedom that you have to somewhat give up to live here for what they are offering is not worth it.
How can you judge cost of living by comparing a meal at a posh restaurant.
FYI - I spend QR 5.00 everymorning that consists of 3 porota & a Chicken Curry. I am not dead yet by eating that :)
So fatcat, do you think will be not enough to live with 9000QR for two people?
You won't get experience here - most people here do not have great experience anyway, that's why they hire expats that will hopefully bring their experience. But even a lot of the expats do not have the necessary experience. So you end up not learning much here.
Cost of living is not that cheap here.
For example, if you drink at all you'll pay QR6 for one beer at QDC (the only place you can buy alcohol from). If you're having the same beer at a hotel, I think you'll pay about QR25. I stand to be corrected on the price of beer as I've only had wine. For a glass of red I paid QR50. Yes, for one glass!
I went to Macaroni Grill (an American restaurant) and paid QR130 for a main course and a desert.
The Indian joint near my flat charges QR14 for one meal plus QR2 for delivery.
FYI - I have their exclusive permissions OK.
Well, now I am living in Spain, so I earn Euros, more than they are offering at the moment, but we were thinking that it can be a good experience and that maybe we can live and safe a little bit of money, however I see you said it´s not enough. If houses are that expensive maybe it´s not going to be a very good idea
No Car no Problem. Bus stop is right at the door step :)
and add another 2000-3000 to get her Doha Luxary apartment and live on thin air :)
Do not juggle and do not refer to someone’s names.. they might not to like it…and anyway it’s not too nice tone to use somebody’s names without their permits..
Really?? I heard the live in Doha was not that expensive apart from the house...what as far as I see is very, very expensive but I though food was cheap.
IvanMar, if you want to rent a car you'll pay QR1800 per month (that's how much I'm paying) for Chevrolet Aveo.
Do you earn significantly less than that currently? If yes, then go for it. If not, I'd think twice before moving here.
i am not concerned with what job they are into. I only saw the salary they quoted.
[img_assist|nid=60386|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
and go to work to West Bay every day..with no car...lol...
Skdkak - we don't know what is their job so how you advise them. May be she is the hair dresser of the saloon and he is their driver :)
for bread & occassional chicken and a lot of water. that salary is ok.
for regular chicken u need a part time job too.
And for visiting Bars.. ur gf also would also have to do part time job.[img_assist|nid=60386|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
Thank you very much for all your comments, that´s great! now I have a idea of how it is, by the way some of you ask for my nationality, I am from Argentina and my girlfriend is Spanish. The place where we will work is located in West Bay, my girlfriend will have a company car but I will not have one and we will have diferent shift so I gues I would have to rent one of this limos people talk about in the chat.
One more question, apart of the 7500QR for living allowance, our salary will be like 9000QR (both salaries together) will be that enough to live with out worries?
Thank you again for your help!
lolzzz true
Bakamuna - at least new comers won't get scared of Mr./Ms everything knows exagerared rent rates
but alot others too like food and drink you dont need that also
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
deep you cant wake a person who is pretending to be asleep..so forget what you trying to do...

Pl. Feel free to come and visit me to check the quality as few QLers did so far :)
the only medicine i like putting up my nose is very hard to get here.
Musharib 5 towers 10 story high. 1 story 12 apartments. that is 108 apartments x 5 = 540 apartments.
Wakra 800 units. Wakra and Musharibb all belong to the same owner. Owner is a mamber of Al Thani family. Does it make sense now?
I'm in agreement with Qatarisun.
You do not need to organize anything.. I know one simple thing.. if two items are on the market, and they are the same quality, their price is about the same... If one of items twice as cheap as another, there is something hidden there. It is that simple. How come 2-br flat in Beverly Hills tower is QR 16,000 and in your “tower” is 7500? Are owners idiots to give away their "high quality" property for half price, if it's possible to rent it for 12000-16000??
I don' t know how did you get this flat, who did pay for it, what quality is it.. but I think there are no benefactors when it comes to money...
Oh, listen I know one girl, she lives in Bev.Hills and pays.. 1000 QR for 2 br flat (mostly utilities, internet, service and such)…… does it mean everybody pay as little????? Not at all .. this is HER case....oh, and you know why does she pay only 1000? Because the rest her BF pays.. may be you are the same case, who knows?
now add some medicine up ur nose too to stop the flu or use cork block the damn nose.
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
adding my 2 cents worth when I've felt upto it. Struggling with this damn flu thing thats going around.
where the hell did you pop up from now go back and sleep
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
Sorry couldn't help.
"some asian women are usually harassed here which i don't know why they do that"
Try harresing my wife. she already broke windscreen of a big SUV whish tried to make improper suggestions :)
are big time headache for me :?
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
was it you wolfie?
Darude, hisssssssssssssssssssssss.
LOL.
i don't think life for women in doha is not what you all seem to say... at least for some people... and depending on nationality... coz some asian women are usually harassed here which i don't know why they do that!
what is your nationality?
for your housing allowance... I say it's ok if you're not the type who wants a luxurious life.
HappY and In Love!
Ivanmar, bottom line is if you want to live in Doha (not Wakra, Doha) it will cost you more than QR7.5k a month for a 2 bedroom flat. With QR7.5k you may get a 1 bedroom, but it's not that easy. I was looking for accommodation 2 months ago and I'm talking out of my own experience. This being Doha, I do not believe prices would have fallen. If you want a fancy building, a friend of mine tells me that in his building it'll cost QR16k for a 1 bedroom (4 seasons or something like that if I'm not mistaken).
It amazes me how some people make it look like a piece of cake finding a reasonably priced flat. It's not.
Mid off stop freeze
leave that mighty cat alone to me i will handle her because you know am handling all the cats here on site jasskat blackcat miscat and this is new fatcat
you go to other topic and add your 2 cent while i fight this one here :D
[img_assist|nid=73057|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
No I am 5 year old who doesn't know Doha Roads :)
Why on Earth would I take a bet on anything? How old are you? 10?
You dont' take Hamad st. to go to City Centre. Turn right from the Toyota signal and use the cornice road all the way. 30 minute max. alathool.
Shall we make a bet on that?
"...that's what i said for 2 br very regular (rather plain) flat within Doha".
Have you ever seen the quality of Musharibb Towers. I can arrange a vissit for you to have a look on the rather plain apartments.
There is no way it would take no more than 30 minutes. It takes 20 to 30 minutes from Grand Hamad to City Centre at 7am. So from Wakra it has to take longer.
...that's what i said for 2 br very regular (rather plain) flat within Doha. OUT of Doha he can find cheaper...BTW, a DECENT 2br flat in Doha might cost him 12,00o-14,000 and even 16,000, ok?
it doesn't matter how long it takes to reach Doha: 2 minutes or 2 hours .. Doha and Wakra are two different cities.. at least so far...so better if you specify: i am staying out of Doha in nice coumpound in 2br flat for 7000.. everything ir clear.
Have you ever been to wakra. Wkara is the boundry of NDIA so what r u talking about?
to City Centre Not more than 30 minutes :)
I leave at 7.30am to reach office before 8.00am on the way I stopn to buy Newspaper also;)
I stayed in Musharibb towers for QR 7500 2br F/F before moving to wakra
But today is part of the weekend! If u leave your compound at 7am on a Sunday morning to get to City Centre, how long would that take?
10 minutes from Doha International Airport. This morning Drive to grand Hamad took only 17 Minutes. Other days 25 minutes. My college is staying in a compound near Villagio and he said it takes him 45 mitues to reach office :)
There is no way you will find a decent 2 bedrooms in Doha (not Wakra) for less than QR8000. More likely QR8.5k or QR9.5k. One bedrooms are hard to come by. And when they do, you'll pay only about QR1k less than a 2 bedroom.
Baka.. Is that so. Wakra is outside Doha.. Well, u might be considering the Doha-Wakra distance & comparing it with city limits of ur country :)
Howz ur tata sky ??
[img_assist|nid=60386|title=.|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
is wakra within doha limits ? then yes it is...
is it within Doha?
done that allready 3 times, threw my pants cos it has burnt patches due to clorine... :)
Compound is 1 month old only. Ask Tigasan and Jinx. They have been to my place last thursday night.
Qatarisun - You are out of what is happening here.
Bakamuna - You better rinse off your clorine from your hair :)
7000 2br/fully furnished...2 months free available...what is doha and out of doha...qatar itself is 2 hrs drive :)
I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle..
Deep, I doubt that you can find 2br flat in compaund with all the facilities that you described for 7000... no,I do not doubt, i am sure you cannot find it. May be you Deep keep this price since few years ago, then yes...OR it is OUT of Doha...
But of course you do not really need 8500 for 1br flat. you can find nice 1 br flat for 6500-7500. Even you can find a small 2 br flat for 7500.. but again, it depends on the area and the quality of the building...
regarding marriage.. yes, you have to be married in order to live together as a family...
"2. 7500 as acc. allowance not enought you need min. 8500"
B.S. I live in a compound with 2 swimming pools, basketball court, tennis court, club house, 24 hr security. Rent 2 BR F/F QR 7000 only.
1st two months rent free as a compliment :)

[img_assist|nid=98090|title=New|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
when you leave Doha?
get get a marriage certificate thats enough
1 yes you should be married, other wise it will big problem speciall if she became preganant
2. 7500 as acc. allowance not enought you need min. 8500
3. life is so boring here, so be ready for spend more time at your house
"Some people make the world more special, Just by being in it ..."
Hey there! Qatar is not a bad place at all. It is not at all like Saudia Arabia. Women have complete liberty and freedom to lead their lives. They can work in any profession, wear whatever they want and drive too.
I am not too sure though about the living arrangemnt though. Don't know if you and your girlfriend can live together without getting married. I guess it all depends on your nationality, where are you from?
Better to be safe then sorry yes getting married is good
BTW what type of job is it
Ask the company to provide furnished accommodation
DOha is a safe country even single ladies are quite safe here
[img_assist|nid=50852|title=hmm|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
it is better to be married if you want to live together. They may ask for a marriage certificate.
life for women is pretty safe.as long as she can handle the terrible traffic.
lol
anyway hope you will find all your answers.
