I lived in Abu Dhabi for 15 years. Its a very beautiful place. Women walk or travel in a cab even late in the night. One thing I do not like in Qatar is not able to move freely. Hardly any women walking on the roads, very few cabs. In Abu Dhabi I used to never depend on my husband for shopping though I did not have a driving licence. Here even if I have to travel a short distance I have to ask my husband to drive me to that place as waiting for cabs is endless. I think Qatar needs to take some action on this and increase the number of cabs running and I would like to see more women moving about on the streets.
I lived UAE for last three years and it has been a few months for me in Doha.
My analysis of the two:
- UAE is much bigger geographically and offers a variety of purely cosmopolitan lifestyle.
- There is night life in Dubai for the clubbers, if you are a religious/silent person you can live a peaceful life in Sharjah.
- For the nature lovers places like Al Ain, Fujairah, RAK provide sufficient stuff!
- The lifestyle and the living standard is high, and of course the cost of living too is high. But, still there are many options to lead a budget / economy style living.
- In UAE you pay & you get quick and efficient services which keeps your worries away!
- There are many options for schooling and medicals in the UAE.
- If you are flying frequently, there are many economical options in the UAE, unlike QATAR.
- The biggest trouble in the UAE is the horrible traffic!!
- An average working day begins at 5 am and when you reach home it is 9 pm for sure!!
- Long hours struck in traffic is a common scenario for everyone.
- To avoid traffic lots of road mapping and forward plannig has to be done.
- But, I think with all the major road expansions and the Dubai Metro in place, 70% of the problem will be resolved very soon.
- Qatar is a cool place for a relax, mid-aged, cool lifestyle!
- Qatar has to improve a lot in terms of efficient services, speed and cometence in all the sectors.
- Qatar is a best place for the one with families, as unlike UAE, we can spare lotz of time with the families.
- Qatar is too expensive and wihtout any reason.
- The huge money we pay for anything, accomodation, services, schooling etc. is not at at all justified by the quality we get in return.
- What I admire the most in Doha are the sports facilities it provides! The set ups are all awesome!
- Qatar is not a place for singles, in anyway!
But, I am sure Qatar will catch up, sooner or later!!
The UAE is NOT a city, it is a group of Emirates, Abu Dhabi being the largest (and also having most of the money). They are even involved in sponsoring the Ferrari F1 team via Mubadala.
Dubai is good if you don't want to save money but is currently not unlike a builders yard.
Abu Dhabi has lots to do and is not as expensive as Dubai, it also has it's own attractions.
I lived in Dubai for a year (2006-2007) and I still go there every 2-3 weeks on business. Dubai is definitely the place to be. It is as expensive as Doha, but atleast there are a million things to do, social life is amazing, they have a proper infrastructure in place, things happen in Dubai, unlike Doha. The d-ring and industrial roundabout have been closed for a very long time here. In the same time, Dubai has built roads, bridges and highways to wrap Doha several times over. Construction boom in Doha? You got to be kidding! Check out the real boom in Dubai. Career opportunities? Dubai of course. Lifestyle and going out? Dubai. Having fun? Dubai. Driving? Dubai of course. Everything else? Dubai.
So why am I here? Not for long... as soon as I can, I am moving back.
nope, I just hung out a dodgy dives like Rock Bottoms and could never remember how I got there...or home for that matter.....oh, the days of being young and frivolous...it was 2004!!

really? you mean same motorist they have...uuuuh, que horror.... but they told me that UAE specially Abu Dhabi are implementing much strict hygiene specially on the roads. At their sidewalks as they said, they have garbage at the post for the people to dispose their garbage... and they also have this big dumps for garbage...is it true?

I came from UAE 7 months ago,
really I shocked, I am keeping asking my manager to tranfer me back to UAE, I think I will be back soon, If GOD willing
the problems in qatar as following:
- Qatar is so boring
- Qatar is more expensive
- they depand on dubai for evry thing, even the criedt card they need to print it in dubai so you need to wait 2 weeks in most of the banks here
- Quality of life are bad comparing to UAE
- street need to be wider
- Qataris are not friendly at all comparing with Emaraties, specially the policmen,
- in weekend it is so diifecult to go out just limited options and all nice place are crawded
- they don't like the bachelors here excpet if you are westers or lebanees
- they don't allow for bachelors to go to some malls or to cornich road in the weekends or holidays, except the westers & qataris
- Qataries don't repect the laws for traffics or rules when there are queue, completely different that Emaraties
at all my advise, you will make big mistake to come here, if you was in UAE
sorry it is my opinion

Compared to Doha, Dubai has:
More nightclubs and nightlife.
More nationalities, less locals.
More buildings.
More Business/Trade.
Extremely bad traffic (Qatar's traffic is getting just as bad).
Bizarrely Dubai's Internet services are more restrictive (I noticed flickr and skype are banned there!).
I don't know which of these are better or worse, you be the judge.
