Which I think brings me to my (mundane) general point: It is the very detachment, the facelessness, I think, that leads to all the drama...fundamentally, people do things to people online (and I don't just mean the normal griefing and such, but I mean socially, etc.) that they wouldn't do in real life precisely because they don't (yet?) feel like they really have an attachment to them.

Take an example: If you were a member of a sports team etc., and you chose to drop that association and join another one, especially a rival, you'd feel the need to say a few words about it in real life, wouldn't you?

Even if you weren't joining another one, but your life had changed, just so you didn't have time any more for that thing, you'd say something, maybe a few words of thanks, etc.

But I think in the online world, too often people decide "ah, hell, I don't know them, screw it," and go and do their own thing.

I don't know call me Mr. Online Manners if you will, but I don't think the distance put between you by a computer screen absolves you of some of the responsibilities of that interaction, at the most basic level of politeness, etc.( @ superfreak )

With only few days in QL i am just a noob here.But this is my oppinion about QatarLiving:

We sit and we type and we stare at our screens

We all have to wonder, what this possibly means

With our mouse we roam, through the rooms in a maze

Looking for something or someone as we sit in a daze

~

We chat with each other, we type all our woes

Small groups we do form and gang up on our foes

~

We wait for somebody, to type out our name

We want recognition but it is always the same

In PM's we chat deeply and reveal why we hurt

We do form friendships - but - why we don't know

But some of these friendships will flourish and grow

here trying to help, it does not matter who posts while it would be helping the others in the end. Is there is any basis for that? I mean based on what do you choose your favorite poster here? No idea of course as all the people won't agree on the same person and if you will find or two you will not find the rest.

The truth is that no matter what sort of thread is posted here, there are plenty of replies, which is actually very appreciating.

There are people asking for advises, directions, suggestions, (and some asking for trouble too LOL)

I was going through threads on various topics and found that for any thread posted, there is atleast one QL member who can give the best answer.

since there are many topics discussed here, in my opinion the credit goes to each and all of you who actively and meaningfully responds to posts.

I think people will nominate who they think they like and not who they dislike - it is the same with all these votes here on QL it is a kind of groupie situation. People who do go deeper into a topic so as to raise eybrows and tempers are seldom on the Popular lists.

Being contraversial does make people unpopular and seeing a discussion through to the end does to. Expressing and opinion and sticking to that is often difficult as many try to throw the thread maker off track.
