Intercontinental Hotel with The Thai Embassy

Thai Dance at Intercon from novita77 on Vimeo.

Last night I had the honour of representing Qatarliving.com at the pre-event of the Thai Cultural Festival (brought by the Thai Embassy and Intercontinental Hotel Doha).

Event started at 7pm, I came at 6.45pm and went straight to venue (pool side). Felt a bit lost in the beginning … but then I soon find my way around … and talked to people. You just need to smile and initiate handshakes and you break the ice. After engaging in some small talks I excused myself then started exploring the area and took some shots.

Just before 7.30pm, the event started with the opening dance, followed by short and sweet speeches from Thai Ambassador and Intercontinental Hotel General Manager. I can’t remember the Ambassador name (I know his name written in the invites, but then again I don’t have the invite) since Thai people always have a hard to remember long name.
But I do remember the GM name is Michael because Christiana (The Hotel Marketing Manager) introduced me in person to Michael. I feel like someone famous when she said, “Novita from Qatarliving”.
The Thai Ambassador and The Hotel GM hit the drum together 3 times as a symbol that the Thai Cultural Event had started.

Next was a dance by The Ambassador’s daughter (she only 9 yrs old), followed by Thai cultural dancers specially flown in from Thailand for the event.

Food was superb … so many varieties that I don’t have enough space in my tummy to try everything. Beef salad, thai spring roll, thai fish cake, and all the classic Thai dishes are all there.

[img_assist|nid=105104|title=food4.jpg|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
There is a lady who makes Som Tam (papaya salad) which you could try right away. At some point I saw her running to the rest room because she splashed the lemon juice into her eyes.

Fruit carving live station. The lady who did it was really amazing. I am surprised she did not cut her own finger …

Met some of my Thai girlfriends … all of them asked me the same question. What am I doing in the Thai Embassy reception? And I have to tell them … do you know this website Qatarliving.com? Qatari sent me out on behalf of the site … blah blah blah … I cant remember how many time I mentioned about the site … but I guess worth to ask Qatari to pay me as a full time QL promoter Lol.

There were some lucky draw with the prize free flight to Thailand courtesy of Qatar Airways plus 5 days in Intercontinental Hotel Phuket. One of my Thai girlfriend Pim won that prize. Well done Pim !

I met one QL’er … Rayyzzz and his wife. If he did not approached me first , I don’t think I would recognized him … (Sorry Rayyzzz !!!!).

I also met one lovely Thai lady call Ari (Phi Ari) … she worked for one of the real estate companies. She told me … she always read Qatarliving, but she never post. She also very kind giving me a brief description about Thai dancing. Basically Phi Ari said that Thai people only dance the traditional dance at special occasions. Phi Ari, if you out there reading this … you promised you will drop by and post something to say hello to me … 

At about 9pm people start leaving. After saying bye bye to Christiana and Michael, I excuse myself and go home too.
After a relaxing evening in the peaceful confines of the Intercontinental Hotel, it was time to hit the stressful, annoying and overcrowded roads of Doha uuuggghh!!!

Many thanks to Qatari and Ahmad who gave me the chance to go on behalf of the site.

The food was plentiful, buffet style, the service was excellent and the entertainment (live music and a variety of traditional dances) added the right touch (since the affair is being touted as a 'cultural festival'). Worth the 185 Riyal price of admission as long as you come hungry :)

A little research shows that this is the time of year that Thailand celebrates the coronation of their king, Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world's longest serving head of state (over 60 years).

Thanks to the active users for keeping us casual users up to date on what is happening around town.

Great report Novi, and lovely photos. As usual.

Qatari should pay you for such good promotion, or at least give you some vouchers or something!
