Free MAC samples

Aisha-Taweela
By Aisha-Taweela

A while ago there was a post asking about the free samples at Mac. I do not find the thread anymore so here I create a new one with the same?? heading.

In the last thread the question was if one could getfree samples from the MAC store at Villagio. So further to that thread I would like to comment the following experience.

Today I was at Villagio and was waiting for my daughter who had forgotten some of our shopping at the Carrefour check-in. So here I was standing infront of MAC. I went in. There were 4 sales people there. One was behind the counter busy doing something. 3 others were busy. One lady was sitting in the stool being made-up. So I walked over asking some questions, asking about make overs etc etc. Apparently the lady sitting on the stool was the head sales person. She had lots of make-up on, the girl doing her make-up explained that she was doing a touch up, cos they are supposed to wear make-up, as part of their job.

Anyway, when they were finished, they put the stool back against the wall, and they all walked away. None of them even offered to do something on me, nor did they ask if I needed anything. The most unfriendly & unproffesional treatment I have ever received. If I were the boss of these girls I would fire them. Am sure that shop does not do much business.

So now I totally understand why one does not get any free samples there and why one would feel intimidated even asking for a sample.

I for one will never, after the treatment I got today, buy anything from such conceited sales people.

salon is on Al Waab road. If you go from Al Sadd traffic lights towards Villagio, make a u-turn on the first r/a, pass Tayseer Petrol Station, and soon you will see on the right hand side Thai massage place (opening soon) and Nara Salon, which is Dohasteve wife's salon.

I too agree with all those who had bad experiences at MAC stores.. I've been through the same. I guess its never going to change here.

Hello DohaSteve, thanks for the info about your wife's salon. I want to know if they sell MAKE UP FOREVER products (or do you mean they will be applying & selling makeup forever?)Sorry for the confusion though. And also if you could tell where the salon is..? Thanks

My wife's salon will be opening in about 10 days and she will have a makeup artist and will be applying and selling Makeup Forever.

If you don't get good service in there, fill in a comment card and it will be rectified. Her whole reason for opening her own salon was that she got sick and tired of crap service in every salon she has been to in the last 7 years here.

"May I ignore you?"

"May I pretend to go and get something then disappear?"

"May I give you irritating answers to every question?"

"May I stand and smile at you with a glazed expression in my one good eye and then give you something that you never asked for?"

..... or the really honest ones .....

"We get paid regardless of whether you buy something or not"

"Honestly, I couldn't care less"

"I haven't been paid for six months - do you really want me to serve you?"

"I have a boyfriend in CID who can get me an NOC so I couldn't give a toss if I get fired from this crappy job"

.... any more?

thats why everytime we enter a store or an office, we always look for a filipino. funny, back in the philippines, there's this joke about salesladies who always follow you around when shopping. when they approach you and say, how may i help you, or what are you looking for?. you say, i'm looking for happiness and world peace. hahhaaha

I've never had a problem with the girls in Mac - always found them very helpful.

Zara is a different story though - the sales staff there have ATTITUDE!!!! I once bought something there, and during the whole transaction (credit card, pin number, etc, etc) the male sales assistant didn't say ONE word to me, let along acknowledge my existence. So when he handed back my card, I tackled him about it, saying 'Do you realise that you didn't say one word to me while I paid for that?' He looked utterly perplexed and non-plussed - just didn't get what I meant. Literally shrugged his shoulders and smirked as if I was stupid for even mentioning it!!

In the immortal words of Edina in Absolutely Fabulous 'Drop the attitude sweetie, you're only a shop assistant!'

PLEASE shop assistants don't harass me for that - it's a joke, ok??? I know there are lots of lovely ones too :)

I find buying makeup here a pain in the you know what. Any shop you go into has all the sales girls caking on makeup from the samples. Once they finish that they will generally ask you if you want something. Makyage in CC is the worst, they tried selling me the Nouba foundations for dark skin, and you would be surprised if you saw me cause I am so white I practically glow in the dark. Funny thing is, if they give you super crap advise (i.e telling you a shade of foundation 4 times darker/lighter than your tone is right for you) there is no liability for them, and forget an exchange or refund like back home.

I am not surprised at all about your comments on MAC sales service. All you say are completely true. Salespersons are so arrogant and don't know what "service" means. However, I don't mind at all but instead I enjoy testing all colours on my arms hahhaa.

Regarding what Novita said about the carrefour staff. My friend was so fed up of asking them for something and watching them disappear out the back never to return that he now follows them into the warehouse!

I find the MAC ladies at CC much, much more helpful.

in qatar, people who are doing business are not bothered about sales , bcoz they know ones got no choice but to buy from them. these kind of attitude you will find very much common in here.

I went to carrefour last 25th of January, first day of the Round 2 SALE. Actually, i first came the day before which was the end of the ROUND 1 SALE. I want to buy the DVD Player with FREE 1 GB Flash Drive. I asked this guy wearing red sleeveless uniform and white polo, he is not a Filipino, "Where is the free 1GB Usb Flash". he said you have to buy for it. but it says on the magazine, it is is free.

my point now is, even the employees are not aware of this new SALE ROUND 2 that started that day. No proper training or announcement from the management.

Even the boys who are putting the goods in the plastic bags has no training at all. they put all together small stuff and big stuff together even if it's a different category. example, they put Muriatic Acid Bottle with your Soy Sauce bottle in the plastic. WTF is this?! LOL.

Most of the Mall or supermarket employees doesn't have training on what they are doing. even QTEL customer service has bad customer service training. it's like hiring unprofessional candidates just to fill-up vacant slots for the job.

Thank goodness! I thought I was the only one who experienced this kind of treatment by MAC cosmetics sales ladies. Every time I go there the sales ladies are arrogant. First incident was with this short girl whom I already I asked to assist me but she just look at me and assisted a customer who just entered the shop. Second incident, I was waiting for the sales lady to finish assisting the customer so I smiled at her assuming she understood. So while she was still doing her stuff, I smiled the other sales lady who was just basically sitting on a stool and apparently she just stared as if I wasn't there. I'm sure she knew that I needed her assistance but still. SO tmy last visit, same lady who was standing FINALLY assisted me BUT seemed annoyed that she'll assist a customer. So I kind of asked for a certain product and she answered very RUDELY.Tsk Tsk..so sad I always find her very pretty.

I think the MAC prices in Doha are pretty much in line with Malaysia.

I pay about RM 65/- for an eye shadow and RM 70/- for a lip stick.

My make up is pretty much restricted to MAC and Estee Lauder. Just yesterday I bought an Estee Lauder lippy for about RM 72/-

Silly I know, but these trivial price parities make the move to Doha a lot more palatable!

Am planning to land in Qatar early Aug if all goes well. God know how long this residency visa process takes. Hubby is getting there by Mid may and then will apply for the residency visa to get the rest of his baggage which includes us and a dog!!!

In the meantime, I'm making the most of every day in the country I love

" Malaysia" .

Mac seems to be around the same price range as KL. I just bought eye shadow for RM 65/-. Was so happy to hear there was Mac in Doha. Was planning to get a year's supply from KL. Only to have my hubby say " you behave as if you are going to a kampung ". Anyways, delighted to hear that Mac is affordable and comparable to what we pay here.

Will send you a PM

Ciao and take care

Do not expect too much on people working in such establishments here in Qatar. most of the the sales staff here (80%) can't handle or don't know "customer satisfaction"... why? because their compay doesn't  practice those such attitude. one more thing, that reflects their management.

sorry for if you go to Philippines... even u won't buy or even u just drop by or made a single look, they will approach you and do the necessary things as part of their job.... (the employee and customer relation)

asked another guy with white shirt and blue vest ... he said one moment sir ... and disappear ... never to be seen again ...

hubby got worked up ... he walked to the tools area, grab one of the tools and lower the seat himself. All done in 2 mins.

I dont agree with not finding proffesional staff.  I usually buy my make-up at th is shop in Hyatt plaza. Karissma or something like that. The are very nice & helpful there.

There are many shops that have good staff working for them and these are the places I go back to. It is amazing but sometimes I walk into a storewhere I have not been for a year or so, and the staff ask me where I have been.....

But then some of those shops that are newly opened, have staff that leave to lot to be desired...is it the training they get, or rather said the lack of it, no management surervision??? What?
